  • On May 21 2016 around 4:30 p.m., 35-year-old Douglass Detrie filed this report after his live-in girlfriend, Nicole Vanderheyden, didn’t end up coming home since last night’s party. This nightout would turn out to be the most gruesome and twisted cases in the histroy of the Brown County.
Usually, after a missing person’s report is filed, the police confirm more details by meeting the caller and then carry out a search for the missing person. But for some reason, this missing person suspiciously matched the description of someone who was discovered 3 hours ago in a farm field.
After this shocking reveal, the missing person’s case turned into a possible homicide as the dead body was identified as Nicole Vanderheyden.

That babysitter was trying to make damn sure the boyfriend got prosecuted for this before she knew ANY details at all. Like "why would you let her walk alone"? Excuse me hon, but I'm a grown woman and when I was pissed at my boyfriend, he didn't LET me do anything- if I wanted to get away from his a** I did exactly that regardless of what he wanted. Maybe they weren't the greatest couple or he wasn't a great boyfriend but being a crappy partner is a far, far cry from being a murderer. Just because you don't like someone doesn't mean you do your best to twist everything they've ever said or done or make things up to fit your twisted little scenario. If you truly cared about your friend, you'd actually be as open and truthful as possible to try and find her, not spend so much effort trying to demonize one person you have no real evidence against.

She isn't a detective she is just a friend and if your friend was in a bad relationship, plus you didn't like him, then ya friend ends up alone on a night out and dead, u are going jump to those conclusions, you wouldn't be nice about it. If my mate ended up dead, I think I would still blame him for leaving her alone. Ya shouldn't leave ya mates or girlfriend..anything could happen. If I left my mate alone, fight, or no fight, I would be full of guilt if she ended up dead.

The only reason this case is as infamous as it is is solely due to the incompetency of the investigators in this case. There was NO evidence whatsoever for any arrest warrant which is mind blowing. They arrested him on the way he treated past relationships even though none of it was in any illegal manner.
That's why this case is so scary. It doesn't matter what you say. It doesn't matter what you do. You're guilty in the eyes of the incompetent investigators...and if people have issues with that then perhaps they shouldn't be so bad at their jobs. I live in a town that is not only voted one of the top cities to visit and live in yet we're also known for being the town in which you go if you want to get away with murder.
When there's more unsolved than solved then people have every right to speak out...and this town is just North of where this took place so we all know what we're talking about. We've lived it and we're tired of it. Do your effing jobs! Or get out! You didn't do your jobs. You jumped to conclusions and almost allowed for a true homicidal maniac to kill someone else's child as well because that's what they do...especially, when they got away with it in the past.
You're supposed to protect Us...not yourselves. Smh. Despicable...and like I said, living in a similar area it could've been mine. You all deserve a tongue lashing at the very least so handle it. You've earned it.

Exactly. The narrator here maybe doesn't understand what Detrie means by that statement. Sometimes I think that these narrators are either non American by birth, or culturally, or else come from a less than street-smart background. What Detrie means by that is that he and his friend spent the majority of their expected-to-be evening out (with babysitter hired) looking for someone who had a minimal responsibility to keep in touch with them and let them know where she was and that she was OK, if not be with them. And he was scared, frustrated, and even angry that she was not reachable. The two best reasons and possibilities would be jail or hospital. Other reasons would not be good.

Well just keep in mind that many interrogations we watch is an instance of something unique, unfair, or particularly curious. If these channels showed us only cases where everything goes 100% smooth and easy, we may not stick around. It’s not an issue or anything- the channels do great work! Just something to keep in mind before we label any entire nation of being incompetent or corrupt lol
