I just realized this is probably this first time I’ve seen Chris’ natural eyebrows in forever
Dude same! I feel like I haven't seen him with natural eyebrows in years lmaooo
He’s had his natural eyebrows for quite some time now
@@HalfenHalf I hadn’t realized they were his natural ones, they looked drawn on or something. Or maybe I just don’t pay attention to his eyebrows lol
@@tabythajones3309 He stopped shaving them of and let them grew back, but I think he fills them in with makeup to look fuller!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Bruh same!
Little does Chris know, we listen to him and try to imitate the screams but sound terrible 🤣
Me screaming lyrics in the shower and my family telling me I sounded like a banshee 🤣🤣
Facts lmao 🤣
Unlucky!, I'm fortunate enough to be able to scream really well. Took a long damn time to get competent at though
@@danielfoster238 yes sir it takes a lot of practice, even after years of practice i still sound horrible
I think he knows
So glad he brought up Ben Burnley. Breaking Benjamin is the main gateway band that got me into metalcore and deathcore. Absolutely love them.
Saaame here man
except Breaking Benjamin isn't metal or death metal. Breaking Benjamin is more into the Hard Rock genre. Ben Burnley is one of the greatest vocalists of the modern rock era and his voice is one in a million for sure especially his growls.
There’s a track on their new album that has a very BB sound
We can clearly hear the influence of Ben Burley in Chris voice :D, would be sad from him not to credit him!
@@heyflo1 I remember Breaking Benjamin for the first time back in 2004 with We are Not Alone with So Cold being the song that hooked me into the band. Now in todays age, Breaking Benjamin is my second favorite band right behind KoRn.
Chris is such a sweetheart. I am so happy to see MIW growing. Super proud of him, one of the BEST metal singers of our times 🖤
true, I am not a big fan of his pronounciations, but he sounds like marilyn manson gone death core, awesome screams
Yes!
@@R-SXX What pronounciations?
@@sacchaistiredhis weird way of saying some words. It’s different then a lot of other singers
Yo Chris seems so humble. This whole album is my lifting session. This album gonna be in my top for a longgggg time
He’s very humble and a great person 😊
Masterpiece could 100% be a Breaking Benjamin song. Would be awesome for him to bring Ben on for a show and perform it together.
Chris actually got to perform with Breaking Benjamin. They did the song Polyamorous and it was fantastic
The lyrics duuudeee
I love that I found my own voice. I can go from growl scream into a singing voice and back again in one note/sentence now.
I loved his vocals in 'Sinematic'. One of their best songs if not the best.
Thoughts and Prayers has my vote for favorite vocals
Sinematic is highly underrated song, I was so glad they played it at their Deadstream II.
@@Sanderson890 True, it's underrated af.
*Laughing in Carry The Torch*
Sinematic is by far My favorite song of all time, it's not even a contest
It's so awesome seeing MIW get publicity for this album. Love to see it
I’ll never forget the first time I saw motionless at warped tour 😭cried during eternally yours and the rest was history
It's funny, I've used MIW, Killswitch Engage and Slipknot songs to try to learn screaming. I'm not the best but I've made significant progress over the whole pandemic from listen and screaming to their songs. So cool to hear Chris use James and Corey and others for the same reason
Just remember that you're not really yelling to get that sound. It's a faux scream. And sometimes your nerves are the only thing keepin you back from doin it right. Find an empty lot, throw in some loud earphones, and let loose.
After doing it long enough you'll get thr hang of it. It's repetition. But if it hurts, definitely stop. Try a different way
Suicide silence here Mitch’s vocals are 🔥
What do you do to prevent yourself from damaging your vocal cords?
@@localmilfchaser6938 I wish I knew the exact method to tell you, but there are plenty of good metal vocal style coaches on youtube to watch. Cardavox, extreme vocal institute and vocal hacks all come to mind. But at the end of the day if having extreme pain or discomfort you might should consider talking to a doctor about it to be honest.
So humble lmao. This dudes clean grit is perfect. Also , man, I would love to hear them cover The Used
I've like MIW for a while for a while now, but listening to how well chris articulates himself makes me like them even more.
Chris is freaking awesome! It's really interesting to hear how he went about learning to scream, and what he does to actually be able to scream in the first place, like the vocal health he spoke of. As a vocalist that's learning and experimenting with screaming, I'm definitely going to be coming back to this video often. Thanks, Chris and Loudwire for this video! Rock on! :)
Screaming takes no skill

My first time hearing Chris' natural speaking voice, it's a trip. Not at all what i thought he would sound like but super cool still!
Chris is just so fcking handsome, like holy sh*t how can someone not like him
Chris amongst so many others have both inspired and taught me how to scream and I utilize the shit out of it. Love you guys
Born in '69, to me Korn was a new band after an awesome thrash decade in the 80s. To this dude, Korn was an old band. I still see Korn as new metal. We learned screaming from Corpsegrinder and Rob from Sacrifice.
It's so cool seeing this and having him mention Johnathan Davis, since he featured on one of their songs.
This dude is amazing.
If I got the opportunity to meet any band or any member of a band I’d want it to be Chris or Motionless as whole. They are such humble people about their success and it wasn’t until this band that I got into heavier music and in doing so they change the whole fabric of my playlist. Keep rocking out and doing what you guys do best, can’t wait to see you on tour. Much love for all you guys.
I got a chance to meet Brian "Head" Welch from KoRn one time in a small town about 30 min from my current town. He was touring (or fixing to tour) with Love and Death at the time. I got his autograph but ended up losing it somehow and shook his hand. I was learning bass at the time and he was so humble and down to earth that he told me "no matter what you do in life, put God first and he can turn your hobby/passion into something great." Also, he's much taller in person but he's got a heart of gold and he's definitely a believer in God.
@@Awood2207 it’s amazing how nice and down to earth these guys are, that’s awesome that you got to meet him, I’ve seen Korn 3 times and they’ve never disappointed
@@silentknife2909 some of the nicest and genuine people are rockers and metalheads and it's sad that the snobbiest people are anyone outside of those genres.
I met Chris
Super nice
Ryan too
I saw them tour during trinity of terror in pitt not too long ago, they never forgot their roots in scranton and they got the whole crowd goin
GEEZ Their new album is just YES. All the yes. You can really hear his progress through albums and its been wild discovering them all recently!
Your vocals are awesome Chris. Cant imagine anyone else singing your songs. You have a uniqueness that cant be mimicked in my opinion
My first screaming band was Sick of it All. It’s insane that these singers can do this. I would blow out my voice every time. Sounds like a genuine nice guy
Chis is such a fantastic vocalist, love the new MIW album!
Jonathan Davis' growl in Dead Bodies Everywhere is monumental. I dig MIW
I fucking love That growl
Cradle of Filth have the rasp too especially with their song Nymphedamine. Good tune. Love the rasp screaming in songs. Oli from Bring Me The Horizon is awesome at the scream as well too.
i'm happy to know im not the only one! Thank you for sharing your experience Chris & congratulations on your amazing album!
Such a great album. Every song is on point.
This is the video I didn't know I was waiting for!
Gavin Rossdale is so underrated, and so is Ben Burley, so I’m glad to hear them named.
Bush and Breaking Benjamin are all-time favorites.
Do u know what song was at 6:25?
Thank you so much for making this video and asking him these questions!!!! I always wanted to ask Chris how he learned how to scream and what were his warm ups like! Please do Maria Brink next!
It's very comforting knowing that I'm not alone in not knowing wtf I'm doing screaming there's obviously a thousand videos showing you what to do and how to scream but at the end of the day, it's different for everyone and it's kinda like learning a new instrument in itself and you just kinda have to find you're own path. That being said those videos do help but they're not a complete guide and what I find helps me the most is singing an easier song to sing maybe with a bit of that raspy rocky vocals, then switching to maybe a song that's a bit more dramatic and starts with singing and ends with screaming, and then just singing/screaming along to whatever, and lastly I go with a song that's got some grit but has a big chorus a good one might be "Sign of Life" (Motionless) but my go to is something off of "Saturate" (Breaking Benjamin). But I always make sure that there's some singing in there and not a song with all screams because then it's hard to transition to singing also it just builds technique. A vocal session for me might go like so
1. Snuff - Slipknot
2. All Apologies - Nirvana
3. I Feel Nothing - The Plot in You
4. The Kill - 30 Seconds to Mars
5. Reincarnate - Motionless in White
6. Birth of the Cruel - Slipknot
7. Shallow Bay - Breaking Benjamin
I don't think it's a bad thing to not know what you're doing, though it can be dangerous. I think the caution is when people try to emulate people that don't know what they're doing and mess up their voice. My friend used to literally scream and tear up his throat. It has lasting consequence. Or look at Oli Sykes. Dude did huge damage to his voice. But being able to know what it is you're doing helps you to know when what it is you're doing is harmful. Just my two cents. Also, totally love the Plot in You! I absolutely love his vocals.
@@brandoncooke6564 Well I mean not to totally negate what I said but I have some idea of what I'm doing just not on a professional level. Although I've never torn my throat or even lost my voice which I contribute to my excessive talking and also for the fact that for some reason I never learned how to use my 'normal voice' when singing so I'd always sing in that higher-octave falsetto kinda thing which made it really hard to sing but once I got the hang of it I could sing well and then one day I just was humming and I opened my mouth and unlocked the secrets to the universe. Anyways I contribute that to my throat muscles (?) and range.
Side note: TPIY is amazing I honestly haven't found a thing wrong with them.
SHALLOW BAY FTW!
That's an amazing song list there!
FINALLY!!! A Chris episode. Thank you Loudwire 🖤
Chris' voice is always touching my soul
Chris is so talented it’s insane ! I love trying to play along to their songs I’ve been trying to learn the drums
"He's the screamo."
🤣
I’d love to see one of these with Bryan Garris from Knocked Loose. I love his screaming style
Ayyy ❤️
Chris I love you so much, and I appreciate you and the whole band for making some of the best music in the entire world. X
I love the band name “ new car smell”
Chris is such a great guy to hang out with
I actually got introduced to Motionless in White accidentally. They were opening for Alice Cooper (who I am a lifelong fan of) and I had never even heard of the so I was actually surprised at how many people were there to see them and ha no interest in seeing Alice perform. But they opened and had amazing energy and I have been listening to them ever since.
Was it the tour with halestorm too? I went in Rochester
@@oppayoongiminebackupxd7839 yeah I went in Nashville
Such an interesting interview!! Thanks 💕
Fuck yes! Finally having more Motionless in White on Loudwire.
The character of the rawness which the era of Metallica has is something which really gives the feeling of the finest musical quality, Very interesting to hear it such names from someone else! Great video so far man \m/
Kinda of a trip to see dudes like this be so chill in something like this
It's so hard to decide my favorite MIW album, it's between Scoring The End of The World and Disguise
He is so talented!! Love Motionless in White!!!
BB is my all time favorite band and I knew loved them as well. A lot of MIW songs give me BB vibes. Love it man hearing him say Ben is one of his favorite made me so happy.
and that collab BB did with Gavin covering AIC....brain splode!!!!
Thank you for doing this!!!! I've always struggled to find a way to add screaming along with clean vocals but doing it properly.. It seems like a lot of bands have a clean singer and then a screamer.
I'm so glad my dad was the one that got me into metal. He doesn't like the newer stuff with lots of screams but he will jam to it with me but not go out of his way to listen in his own
To be honest I started learning screaming because of him! I wanted to sing not only clean parts and here we are - I can scream many MIW songs and do covers 🤭 But when I started it was exactly the same as Chris's. It was a disgusting parody (I sounded like a creaking door🤣) and then almost 2 days I couldn't sing anything.
I'm not using the same technique as Chris though sometimes I wish I could use, but I really relate things he said in this video.
Thanks for the awesome video!
i'm actually trying to learn how to scream and i LOVE chris' vocals so this helps a ton !!
The evolution of screaming has been insane. We've gone from super basic vocals to extremely precise technique with Will Ramos and raw power with Alex Terrible
Chris talks like a very down to earth person. He gets to know his fanbase and does the Shorts where fans do part of Masterpiece. That is so wonderful. Maybe their next album or a song titled, Down-to-Earth. Keep the flow MIW.
He's so fierce 😍
randomly bought the album and i love it
I essentially learned the same way he did. Being all paranoid even tho no one is home. The only few people that know are a select friends and wife when they’re lucky enough to hear it 😂
Actually the most true statement ever pahaha
Sometimes you hear Benjamin Burnley in his voice in parts of songs! It’s beautiful cuz i love his vocals too!
Omg I agree!!!!
Especially the chorus of holding on to smoke
He's soo sweet and adorable 😍
I'm in a vocalist in deathcore band
And when I tell people I'm in a band, of course they always ask what part do I play in the band.
My response: I make noises with my mouth
“getting a lot of sleep.” me watching this at 4am 10:57
Bleeding Through is still an all time favorite!!
Chris is amazing .
thank you you for the tips Chris. I'm definitely gonna use them
One of my favorite vocals
Super cool interview.
The best band 🔥🔥
Chris is too precious 🥰 I can totally relate to the my parents stance on my music taste, my dad HATED it and my gave zero fucks, still gives zero fucks and my dad still talks shit lmao 🤣
City Lights is a badass jam. Nice blend of the clean chill vibe into that scream that just gets it.
Think it's about his girlfriend passing. Awesome tune!
One of the best insightful questions ever. Do more! Oliver Sykes, Will Ramos, Landon Tewers, Ronnie Radke!
He’s SO sweet and lovely
He is talking about bands I grew up with!! Good to know....
Never heard of this group but gonna go listen now
Omg yes Michael Graves he’s my fave singer my all time is Ripper 😭😭😭😭 it makes me happy
Thanks for the tips. Will try some of these in future.
THIS IS GOLD
Cool. I've been a KoRn fan for a long ass time, and I love M.I.W. I totally need to see them in concert
Awesome interview
I'm new to heavy metal music 🎶 not obsessed but I'm lovin it.
Yes. Best album by FAR.

Waited this whole time to see a demonstration
Love cause of death from the new album 🔥
id definitely say hes MASTERED the grit
I‘m here for the BLEGH! ❤ Is there a merch item just with a BLEGH on it? I need one 🖤
My absolute favourite band in the world. Listening to Disguise and Scoring the end of the world daily. Surprised to see TimeBomb not on the new album though.
I love how over pronounced his lyric style is and makes it so accessible to fans regardless of what metal style you like.
Chris ❤
You can 100% hear the Ben Burnley influence in the way he does his low cleans. Very wide and baritone. Lovely
I've been trying to teach myself to scream these last couple weeks; the yesterday this video pops up in my feed
It's a sign from God. I'm on the right track lmfao

Listening to Sign of Life, you can feel big time Ben Burnley in the chorus. Really glad he brought that name up!
Met chris at warped 2018 Cincinnati Ohio
Before his set he pointed at me and hand signaled “hold on after this” then after the set he came right up to me and took a photo with me 😲 will never forget it
I’m so glad this band is doing so well…to the fuckin moon
