Another great reaction. This one gives me chills, too. It really pisses you off, and you feel the frustration and anger at the end of the song. The speaking part is straight from COINTEL-PRO. This is all declassified now, and you can read up on it. I know you know about it, but for those that don’t it targeted feminist organizations, the Communist Party USA, anti-Vietnam War organizers, activists of the civil rights and Black power movements (e.g. Martin Luther King Jr., the Nation of Islam, and the Black Panther Party), environmentalist and animal rights organizations, the American Indian Movement (AIM), Chicano and Mexican-American groups like the Brown Berets and the United Farm Workers, and other similar groups. A lot of our political prisoners were locked up because of COINTEL-PRO. …but the fact that they made “Judas and the Black Messiah” says everything. There is no way that movie would’ve been able to be made back then. They can make it now. Why? Zach says it in this song, “What do I have to do to wake you up?!” 😂 People are just consumed with consumerism. Granted, we’ve made a lot of progress, and some a lot of great things… but most people know the government is crooked, and these talking heads in news and politics have us thinking our neighbor is to blame and not our government. I mean it is something to witness. Unfortunately, instead of leaders who want to give power to the people, we have celebrities and athletes who still want to get paid. To quote Zach from another song, “So raise your fists and march around, don’t dare take what you need.
I'll jail and bury those committed and smother the rest in greed.”

Can't begin to express all that this record, this band, means to me. For those who are interested, here's a lyric video for this song that transcribes the language from COINTELPRO documents that Zach reads from in the background of this song (and is not include in the version above). It’s also very uncanny to Kashmir by Led Zeppelin which I’m sure is not a coincidence as Led Zeppelin are very famous and influential so I’m sure they were inspired by them.

Most miss a lot of their references. 1966 is referring to the black athletes at the 1966 Olympics that put their fists in the air. They got their medals stripped. That is why the "fists in the air in the land of hypocrisy" line. Hoover was a body remover is about J Edgar Hoover, head of the FBI and his memo, which is mentioned at the end. Cassius Clay aka Mohammad Ali and the shit about his anti war stance. They took away his Olympic medals. Of course MLK and Malcolm X paid the ultimate price. I'd say RATM was censored. They never got the play they deserved because they were also was against corporate madia. If it wasn't for Tony Hawk and the closing track in the Matrix many people would not have found themselves to RATM. i found them early and turned my sons on to them. My youngest son has seen them 5 times. His favorite was when they gave a free concert at the GOP convention (McCain) when the police cut the power. He said the police looked like imperial storm troopers in full tactical gear but RATM didn't give a f**k and gave an unplugged set.
