    I live on an island. Vancouver Island. We’ve manage to keep our Covid cases very low. This is surprising because of the large amount of traffic from the mainland. I can understand wanting to limit tourism. The boarder is closed between Canada and the United States so I won’t be hunting Hawiian soil for the foreseeable future although it is a goal of mine. You area/species irradiation is similar in politic as our grizzly bear hunting ban. Public opinion is a major factor. I think you are doing the right thing by trying to educate where possible and involving yourself in the political process. I respect you for being a voice for hunters. I really enjoy you channel. Keep it up and good luck with you efforts.

      Mahalo. I realize a what I feel is a huge thing, not just here, but may sweep across modern life. Hunting is just too difficult to get involved in for the average person vs. alternatives (like extreme environmentalism) that compete for similar public spaces. Hunting has got to find a way to bring the barrier of entry lower and do it faster. I don't know how myself but what I see here in the islands may be what another state looks like when one ideology begins to outcompete others.

      @@ryankohatsu8836 we have a heritage day where children are able to hunt without a License. I think hunting will mostly be passed on to the next user group. We have a fellow in BC who had an app called “Eat wild”. He runs courses to teach adults the skills of hunting among others. You should check it out. I think you be great at something similar. If you are familiar with the term “attention economy” then you’ll understand why we have so much trouble being heard out.

      I think the taxidermist uses MacKenzie forms? I'm not too sure actually. Though I do think the form body size is larger than our game is in real life comparatively.

    Great info!
    If a person wanted to hunt the “private side”- what would be a good date range to hunt in hopes of getting a velvet axis? Obviously end of February like the state hunt dates- but what about before or after those dates?

    • @ryankohatsu8836
      @ryankohatsu8836  Před 3 lety +2

      late February through March maybe into April probably best for a hard velvet set that one could preserve with pine sol or Boraxo or tanning solution.

      Thanks for the advice. Sure hope the locals stay healthy with the outbreak- guess I will have to wait until it gets cleared up to head over- hopefully before March- velvet axis is on my hit list and with the state hunt closed this will probably be the only chance for a non-local to get a place and hunt while they are in velvet.

    To clarify; I’m able to still do a Axis hunt on lanai as a non-resident, through a guide even though Hawaii has “cancelled” axis hunts?

    • @ryankohatsu8836
      @ryankohatsu8836  Před 3 lety +1

      The video only pertains to the State managed public hunt there. The private company "Pulama Lanai" still operates the Axis hunt on the rest of the island and I believe has been opened up or going to be opened up, if it hasn't already.

  • @sprinkle_some_crack_on_em8279

    What does it take to do a nonresident axis deer hunt in lanai? I would love to come there in the future when Covid is no longer a threat and do a axis deer and or pig hunt. I’m all for supporting the environment and Hunting in a responsible and environmentally friendly way

    • @ryankohatsu8836
      @ryankohatsu8836  Před 3 lety

      the hunting is simple. it’s the logistics that are not so simple. if you ultra wealthy there are $1000 a night luxury hotels. if not, call pulama Lanai and ask for game management department and they can help you find some logistics like lodging and vehicle. the archery logistics are easy as much area is off paved roads. rifle perhaps a 4wd is more necessary.
