- Dr Blake Bloxham of Feller & Bloxham Medical, PC (www.fellermedical.com) shares the second update of his experiment with verteporfin -- a medication with the potential to significantly reduce scarring and potentially generate hair follicles.
In this video, Dr Bloxham goes through the period between post-op day 1 through month 1 on all three verteporfin test patients, and presents and discusses what he is seeing thus far.

In his prior videos, Dr Bloxham describes and shares video footage from the verteporfin procedure day. Due to the challenges of working with verteporfin and the nature of the medication itself, Dr Bloxham wanted to try and test multiple variables during this study. He wanted to look at how verteporfin could affect a hair transplant (FUT) scar revision on a patient prone to physiologically wider scarring; he wanted to look at how virgin tissue that had never been operated on before responded to verteporfin treatment; and how a regular, average FUT scar reacted to excision, verteporfin treatment, and reclosure. Dr Bloxham also tried to leave in controls and certain safety measures like leaving areas of prior scar and only testing smaller excised segments, and also excising and closing sections of the scalp without verteporfin treatment (on the same patient). This would allow for comparison and help Dr Bloxham understand how the medication may be working.
After describing the patients and the variables evaluated, Dr Bloxham describes exactly how the treatment will be administered and also shares real surgical footage (video) from the procedure day. In this footage (which has been modified when appropriate for the entire viewing audience), Dr Bloxham shows exactly how the tissue was excised, treated with the verteporfin, and closed.
He then discusses how the patients responded to the medication, how the day went in general, and also how the patients fared in the post-operative period.
Finally, Dr Bloxham describes the thrill of trying this verteporfin test and outlines when we will see future updates.

Don't want to get my hopes too high, but I'm excited!
Dr Bloxham if you keep posting regular updates, then you will become a CZcams superstar for hair transplants. Can you imagine how many patients will come to you. Present company included.
From what I see the untreated has pretty much done healing there is almost no active healing in the wound whereas the treated one's wound is still active and is still healing which is a really good sign
It does seem like something is different as you say. The treated areas look better. Great work! Amazing to see you trialing this!
Truly fascinating, thank you Dr Bloxham for your exceptional efforts. How do you think the use of staples will impact scarring? Would we see better results with the verteporfin by using other closing techniques?
Thanks Dr Bloxham!
Keep up the amazing work. You don’t understand how many people you are helping
Wow Simply Amazing
Thank you for doing this. Hopefully the accessibility of this drug improves soon.
Hey if you have any extra Verteporfin you can use it on my NW 6 crown. I'm from NYC, sign me up Doc!
Great detailed info. You should try to find a test patient that’s willing shave their entire head at surgery and 4 months after
Amazing results! Imagine this medication combined with PRP or microneedling? This drug is already fda approved also. This could be groundbreaking! Thank you for your hard work doctor!
Verteporfin use in transplants should become a new standard.
Definitely more hair around the treated area and more reddish skin, thats clearly noticeable in patient 1 and 2, have you used higher dose in those patients?
thanks for contributing this to the world.
Dr Bloxham,it’s the 4th month mark! Plz give us an update we are dying here…. Just a picture actually even just a text update …
Are you considering exploring the benefit of putting verteporfin in the transplanted regions as well?
Wow
Seems like it does do something, next step is learning optimal dosage
It's not in your head, there definitely is a difference between the treated and untreated areas. Now we just have to wait and see what it means--hopefully something good!
Will there be studies on another part of the body where there is no hair?
Did I understand correctly that this tool can remove scars?
It prevents the formation of a scar. Typically, scar tissue doesn’t form with sweat glands and hair follicles like normal skin. So theoretically in a FUE transplant, they could remove hair follicles from the donor area, and with the use of Verteporfin, the donor area would heal back to normal and grow new hair. So if verteporfin turns out to work incredible, you could have an unlimited amount of donor hair.
