  • Interview with Robin Trower for the "Innerview" program hosted by Jim Ladd. This was taped on cassette by yours truly in April 1980, when it aired on KMET 94.7 FM Radio in Los Angeles.
The sound quality is not the greatest. It was recorded on a cheap portable AM/FM cassette recorder in mono (I'm pretty sure that the radio broadcast was actually in stereo), and there's no lack of hiss and distortion, but I'm surprised that a 35 year old cassette produced any sound at all! It's a cool interview, and the focus is on one of his best recordings, "Victims of the Fury".

Thanks for going to the trouble of uploading this gem - essential listening for a die hard Trower head. Brilliant.

You're welcome. This is a great piece of musical history that I wasn't going to let slip by! This cassette was stored away in a box for 30+ years before I digitized it. I agree, it's a great interview, and Victims of the Fury is one of Robin Trower's best.

James Dewar was one the great Rock voices of all time. Robin Trower never again had a singer that had such an impact on the music, though Davey Pattison came very close. I will say that Trower's own vocals have also been very effective in recent years.

"Fly Low" is a great tune, and a wonderful closer on 'Victims of the Fury'. If you're on Facebook, it's been discussed quite a bit on the Official Robin Trower page, as well as on drummer Bill Lordan's group page. Check it out!

Wow, I used to listen to KMET............The Mighty Met! What great time. Met Jim Ladd at the House of Blues in West Hollywood and out at the California Speedway for the Doors concert in 2003. Great DJ! Right up there with the likes of The Grease Man, Alice Cooper, and Wolfman Jack!
I have this "Innerview" on cassette.

Although Robin was influenced by Hendrix, it's too shallow to call him a Hendrix rip-off. Robin's songs and guitar playing are his own,James Dewar vocals, great!

Totally! It always amazes me when I read how critics were accusing him of ripping off Hendrix back in the day. Trower had his own thing going from day one.
