  • Genshin Impact 2.7's newest Archon questline: Hidden Dreams in the Depths is quite probably the best story telling we've seen thus far. Hoyoverse absolutely knocked it out of the park. SO lets talk about it.

    another point to add about Paimon! i saw a clip on Twitter where someone opens the pause menu right after the scene where she talks about being really tired and she doesn’t pop up while the menu is paused!! she’s still sleeping next to Itto with the little cloud over her head! i’m not sure how much weight this little detail holds since it’s just the pause menu but i thought it was interesting 🤔

    • @thejkittymews9045
      @thejkittymews9045 Před 2 lety +29

      That actually goes to show how much attention to detail Mihoyo is paying with it's storyline continuity. So it is actually a very important detail to make note of.

    • @usalisa3656
      @usalisa3656 Před 2 lety +2

      That's also the case when you put her in your Serenity Pot though, she is present in the place you are in so she won't pop up on the menu. So this feature isn't new or unique to that quest

    • @thejkittymews9045
      @thejkittymews9045 Před 2 lety +8

      @@usalisa3656 this is incorrect. I don't have Paimon in my serenitea pot and she doesn't show up when you open the menu. You have to remember the game doesn't pause while in the serenitea pot so opening the menu doesn't pause the game. IE: Paimon will not show up because she "cannot" show up as the game is not considered "paused". Pretty sure this also happens when you are running in Co-Op as well. Because the world cannot be paused Paimon cannot show up when you open the menu. This actually gives more weight to the fact that Paimon controls or is part of the aspect of "time".

    @WARPAINTandUnicorns Před 2 lety +56

    Interesting to note that when Piamon is out cold, She's not only not in the navigation/pause menu. But she is also frozen in time like the rest of the characters EXCEPT that all the status on her is still active. This means the confused/dizzy symbol over her head and her star maps that flow out of her are still active. So her power is still active as well as the Chasm's negative status elements.
    Unreal Dreamer captured it here but I also noticed it while playing.

    I believe paimon is afraid of death mostly because she keeps saying throut this questline and others how she doesn't want to die how she doesn't want to be separated from us or from The Traveler makes me wonder if that's what she's afraid of separation and death

  • @FelixRaycher

    Through this whole quest, I felt like watching a very well directed movie, Witcher 2 dialogues/cutscenes or Metal Gear Solid cutscenes. Camera work, perspective shots and technical site were stronger than everything before them. That's very big jump in quality in my opinion. I also liked how during puzzle with symbols and "Abyss Vision" after entering past-bringing doors and later falling down, game plays with our senses of direction.
    The entire quest is proof for me that Mihoyo isn't "lazy" and still cares about the game and delivering stuff greater each time for us. Call me a fanboy or an idiot, but I don't need an endgame when I wait for such content like that. I hope Sumeru chapter will break us, the Internet and Teyvat itself.

    • @frankfernandez2690
      @frankfernandez2690 Před 2 lety +3

      Totally agree, I'm invested in the story and don't care that much about end game because at the end of the day even if they were to give us something different from abyss it will become stale as well after a few months. End game should never be what you strive for in a game 🙄 I rather they focus on story and map, when story is finished they can just do different events per month from the huge selection of temporary events they are constantly adding, specially if they focus on giving badges for certain things that people can just show off later on

    • @thejkittymews9045
      @thejkittymews9045 Před 2 lety +3

      We have had actual deaths Signora (who while an enemy was a major character) and that soldier who you were paired with in the Rebellion Arc of Inazuma who as far as I remember died from using the power of the Delusion (I've forgotten his name unfortunately) but, it would be impossible for them to kill a player character. Genshin has been very VERY precise about keeping storyline continuity. Killing a character that is a playable character would screw up everything because we'd have a nice little paradox going on. They may get us attached to a character only to reap it for emotional damage but I can't forsee it ever being a character that we can have in our roster.

      @@thejkittymews9045 as much as I hope this is true, I don't think that reasons like these will stop Hoyoverse from killing playable characters. We have to keep in mind that the characters we use in our team are not actually involved in the story. So I don't see a reason why this could become a paradox. (In fact, you are able to use characters who aren't supposed to be around in canon. Remember the Chasm quest where we are told that Klee and Kaeya couldn't come. I still had them on my team...) Now, the only situation that could cause "problems" with dead characters would be the teapot. 😅 Having characters chill in your teapot while they're actually dead wouldn't make much sense.

    It is clear that there were two higher powers at work in there. One is the "space" distortion that had an evil intent and was set out to "devour" them. The other was the "time" protection they got by not getting hungry or tired.
    My take on this is that the "time protection" was not awarded by the space they were in, it was given by Paimom (probably unconsciously). When she ran out of power, she got weak and that protection was gone.

Karmic debt is shown as red binds, not really ghosts, manifesting inside Xiao. As for the headache, I thought it was the moment in which we received part of Bosacius’s memory, because Xiao calls back to it later on in the quest, saying that “at least there’s one other person that remembers him”

    2:12 Something I just thought of just now is the use of the words "Higher Power" is interesting. The last time we heard those words being used, it was to reference Istaroth. This time, when Yelan used those words, it didn't tell us who it was referencing. I assumed the higher power in that situation was Zhongli since we just saw him. I don't think Yelan had a specific person in mind when she said those words, but what if the people at Mihoyo did? When we later spoke to Zhongli, he played dumb and said if he was there it would be an act of fate and that he just wanders around or something like that. We know he can't tell us about Celestia which is why I think him being there had something to do with them if we take him saying him being there was an act of fate literally. All this to say, what if Istaroth was pulling strings again, but this time in the Chasm instead of in Inazuma? I'd understand why Zhongli played dumb if he knew someone from Celestia or related to Celestia was involved.

      true but if you're not used to usually hearing fluent Japanese irl or in games, then it's hard to pick up the subtilties in tone during conversation. Whether or not each dub is better or worse is not the point. It's about the convenience. Since what you're reading and hearing are two different things, if not had practice, it really does take you out of the fluidity of the conversation . Especially when you're reading it the first time and are trying to decipher it as much as you can then and there.

    I would have to disagree, this quest felt like a mess. Introducing oddities to the world that feel out of place (while interesting concepts on their own), clunky and forceful plot writing, and it feels like they cut out some parts that would bridge together the story and give more insight into what was taking place. Not too mention the puzzles were added in to pad out the story, they were not hard but tedious since they dragged out the time required to finish them with transitions and such.
    The only thing I can praise this quest for are the character interacts. Too often its the Traveler with one or two characters. Having a group and having them interact without us being the mediator is something we need much more of.
    A lot of people praise the end cutscene and while its beautiful that's all it is. Foreshadowing is important in storytelling but man they were so heavy handed with it that was clear that Xiao was going to try and sacrifice but they would also never allow him to actually die. I feel that his attempted sacrifice would be more if they dialed back how often they talked about sacrifice and after the first argument between Xiao and Yelan they leave the point more ambiguous.
    I can see why people like it for lore or character reasons but when I look at this quest from a writing lens it leaves a lot to be desired.

      Forced?... Wdym this story quest is the most fluid story line genshin ever had thats why majority of people lore or meta player/CC agree this is the best quest right now and no force was made to the story it all fit together... also the oddities you mentioned (time/space concept, giant monster, shadowy ghost, illusions) are already in the game for sometime now you just need to dig deep on some lore items and book to find them.. they're not foreign on this patch only.

    I would have enjoyed the quest if it didn't have Yelan in it and if the characters would shut up for five minutes.

      we wouldn't really be having a story quest if we don't have characters to tell us in a conversational format then. What you're describing is artifact and book lore.

      @@nia6981 I know they have to talk, but it feels like in every quest they go on and on about nothing. It gets so tedious sitting there through pages of dialogue that feels like it adds minimal value.

      More like you dont care about Yelan that much when the quest IS also about Yelan and everything else that happened. Basically its your own fault that you cant give any care to Yelan. This will be more ironic if you are a Xiao simp as well
