I love that you did a follow up to your packing video. It's great to hear what you felt worked for you. When I was lucky enough to go to Italy last year, the two things I was happiest I brought were a linen button up shirt (SO many uses), and a polyester (basically) t-back dress with some style. It made me feel pretty, and I loved that I could rinse out the sweat and dry it and it still looked good. I am taking notes on your video so the next time I'm lucky enough to travel to Europe, I will keep these items in mind! Thanks!
I am a new subscriber & have learned a lit from you. I love travel and you have some great ideas. But the emmi sandals you talk about are $450.00 Now i realize that a key tenet if slow fashion is to buy less but buy better...however not many people can or will spend $450 on a pair of sandals. Its fine to mention ones you like and wear but i think it would be even more helpful to state what you look for in a travel sandal and perhaps name a couple of sandals at different price points. Just my thoughts
I traveled to Hawaii many times and I realize that beautiful beach dresses and sandals were all I wore the whole week. So the next time I went, that’s all I packed and it was great because that’s all I wore.
I’ve lived in DC for 30 years now: the only thing to wear in heat & humidity is a loose dress. Otherwise, you’re miserable which definitely doesn’t feel or look chic. Denim is right out: nothing makes you sweat more than denim.
@@AlyssaBeltempo Include how to tie the scarf to your bag so you don't lose it. Also, another on styling a button down top. I love the plunging neckline but slightly scared to try it.
@@AlyssaBeltempo My name is Amy. I live on a floating home in Oregon. I split time in Mexico where I leave a wardrobe there. Love your content. Because of you I have 3 Nordgreen watches. Moving on to the belts next...;)
I'm going to Sweden/ITALY/Croatia in mid-September. I have been planning my packing list since early May 😂, when you know you're going to travel carry-on only..it takes YES lots of planning. I am Italian, leaving in Australia, and on international flights, I am only allowed to 7kg carry-on bag, quite of a challenge, but I know I can do it. still deciding on what accessories to bring (bags especially). Thank you your video super charged, and was amazing seeing you in my beloved ❤❤ city of Lecce in one of your previous video!
Such a great video! We just returned from Tuscany and since we were driving from Prague, I could afford a suitcase with more dresses, usually I am a carry-on only person too. Amen to all you said; button-up shirts, silk scarfs, linen shorts, basket bag, sundresses, jewelry to mix things up, strappy sandals, sunglasses. I would have to throw in straw hat, as they help me protect my super pale skin, and my big surprise in versatility was a one-shoulder sports bra from Lululemon which I packed originally for yoga, in the end I often used it with linen shorts and an open button-up as well, as in a neutral color it looks like a trendy one shoulder top :)
Perfect timing. We’re going to be in Sorrento for 10 days at the beginning of August and then London for 5 days. If London continues its coolish/damp summer packing (in a carry-on) will be interesting/challenging. Lots of light layers I expect. I’ll take your ‘more dresses’ observation under advisement.
Thank You Alyssa for this very helpful video! I love seeing the places you travel to and that you share photos of the beautiful scenery. Fabulous as always!
I was looking forward to this video ❤ thank you! Do you have any lessons learned the other way around - pieces that you packed but haven't used that much, and could have as well left at home?
Just came back from a trip to the Pacific Northwest. It was a mix of city time and hiking in a national park. I threw in a black leather belt last minute and thought of your advice when I wore it. It seemed silly, but it really made me feel more polished.
I visit family in Sardinia during the spring and summer. You have to be like a local . Beach outfit during the day and dressy after 5 pm , To walk the town or the promenade . Eat dinner and have a gelato!!! Enjoy life. Thanks Alyssa
Loved the video. I have been subscribed for a few years now and I so enjoy your travel content. Yes, leaving the button up shirt behind was a mistake I clearly remember! I have embraced the joys of travel capsules and it’s become an integral part of my travel experience.
I just spent a hot week on Natucket and realized I packed too much black! Even if its cotton or linen, it just heats up. It was hot there, only a few weeks a year and this was one of them, I packed cotton sweaters that never saw the light of day! I love these videos too, its good to mentally record what worked and didn't work! I have a means coral line. Shirt that I reached for over a d over because it provided a pop or color, I need to get over my “neutrals are best” kick. 😂
Silk slip dress. No contest. Beach. Sleep. Night out. Daywear. With a sweater. Takes no space. I always pack two. Wherever. Whenever. Different colors lengths and cuts for both. Just got back from four weeks. Three countries. Work. Family. Wedding. Vacation. Caregiving. I wore thé bronze maxi one with major slit to the wedding with metallic flats. The beach. Drinks out. And the emerald green midi one (Lora Gene!) to work. Beach. Sleep. Groceries. Serious work horses. 😊
Since watching your videos I always travel with carry on only, no matter how long I am travelling for. Careful choice of colour, mix and match items, veratile footwear, etc...
Alyssa, I make a point of buying sneakers in a solid color (usually accessorized with matching socks to extend the line, with pants or leggings depending on the weather) and I never feel un-chic wearing them. Thanks for another great video!
I love this video! We vacation up in New Hamshire all the time and I never feel stylish and functional with the hiker mountain look that I adorn daily. This gave me some great ideas on how to mix and match….
I found this video hugely beneficial. I can't believe you didn't pack a belt, Alyssa 😮 You always rock this accessory to perfection. I have to say your Sezane caramel shorts are the bomb. Mixed with a variety of coloured tops, they always look amazing, dressed up, or dressed down. I'm glad you had a fabulous holiday 💗
@@AlyssaBeltempo Have you found that the Sezane shorts loosen a lot as you wear them? The fit is perfect right out of the laundry but after a couple hours, the waist loosens, the belt doesn't hold tight to my waist and they end up looking sloppy. Any advice on cinching the belt or other tips for these versatile shorts?
It is difficult to pack the totally perfect capsule wardrobe as you can't really predict the weather. I gather you were here in Italy during a time when the weather is normally warm or even hot. But we have had rain and thunder storms most of June and it has actually been quite chilly for the season.
It was quite chilly in the evening when I first arrived in Sardinia and I ended up using a black linen blend sarong-my beach coverup-as a shawl and that worked perfectly
Omg you were in Milan! I would have loved to bump into you on the streets...next time in Italy, hopefully :) Really love your content and your collabs, thank you for sharing your world with us.
Nice follow-up. You mentioned DRESSES and as someone who grew up in Ireland in the 70s, dresses were a huge part of summer, but not so much here in Canada, where they are rarely worn during the day, in the city. As an avid watcher of street style in several Italian cities, London, Paris, Stockholm, anywhere in Europe, I notice dresses are still popular summer wear. I wonder why they lost favor here?
Great review. I love my Emme Parsons Bari sandals and also feel I need more dresses. I don’t have many but was in California last July and it was SO HOT and I wished I had brought dresses instead of shorts. I love that you share what you WISHED you’d brought.
I love these types of videos. I loveddddddd how I packed for 4 weeks for Portugal last September. I shared a carry on with my then 1.5 year old. I found that I loved how I packed the last time. I brought enough, was never bored and never ran out of outfit combinations... Hoping to repeat this again this coming September.
As I travel now with only a carry on I rely on accessories to style my basic outfits differently: belts, jewelry, scarves as they take less space in my suitcase. Instead of taking 2 similar types of footwear I take 2 different styles (or 3 usually one pair I wear on the plane and 2 in my bag)
Really enjoyed this video! For me a big part of packing light is related to looking put together in other ways, i.e. nails, hair and skin. Would you consider making a video about how you take care of those things before and after holidays and travelling? You look so put together, so a video like that would be much appreciated!
So nice to see you in Italy. Thanks for sharing these tips. However, travel experts are always warning travelers not to wear backpacks due to easy access by people who are wanting to steal.
I share your concern. I’ve worn them for years, and just try to be judicious abt where I am. In the airport, I’m okay w it on my back. In a crowded city, I literally move it to my front. It’s a bit awkward, but lots harder to slash and grab. Some brands also have ones they claim are slashproof, but I don’t have one of those.
I'd recommend a small combination lock to keep the two zips, or zip and ring/loop or something, together to give yourself piece of mind. If you're really concerned, a money belt worn underneath your clothes for passport and extra cash or cards. But the main thing is just to be aware of your things and your surroundings, especially in busy or crowded places. Phone snatching is probably a bigger problem these days. Personally, I've travelled in Europe and Asia for 20 years without an issue.
Alyssa, I love your navy blue linen button down shirt. I bought one after seeing your last video :) I went to Italy in June and mostly packed skirts and dresses. I also pack carry on only. Actually I bought many sundresses this summer, casual and some a bit dressier and that is all I have worn this summer!
Really appreciate these tips as planning a month in Spain & Italy in October. Will be keeping an eye on weather & want to be prepared for variable weather. 😊
I really like your Emme Parsons Sandals, I have already seen them in your last year sommer videos. Unfortunately they are really very expensive! So I am still not sure if they are worth to spend so much money... how long do you already wear them?
Checking out the Owl Day Pack! Perfect for car rides in Upstate NY! Need the have essentials at easy reach!! Thanks! Also bought my first POMP last men shirt for n olive!! Lovely fit and next one will be a medium for a more loose fit.. do love this in a small for elevating my look!!
I love changing earrings, necklaces, and bracelets daily when travel. Even though outfits are limited but as long as I wear different sets of jewelry, the outfits don’t feel too stale. My absolutely must have travel item is a pair of Teva Hurricane sandals. I wear them with everything. They go on trails beaches and streets. I wear wool socks in winter and no socks in summer with them.
Totally agree abt changes of jewelry (and the Tevas). Maybe I bore easily who knows, but it makes me happy🤷🏻♀️ That said, I do take care not to bring pieces that have extreme sentimental value, I’m just too afraid to lose those to mishap.
Really enjoyed hearing the recap of what worked and the items that you missed! So are you saying you would’ve replaced some thing in order to bring more sundresses? Or just squeezed a few more in because they are small?
Hi Alyssa, loved the video (especially the "what you missed" part!) I just wanted to check re the Sezane basket bag you've linked - you mentioned in the video that yours has an adjustable handle but the one link says the handles aren't adjustable. If not this one, do you know the name of the bag you have? Thanks!
Could you do a video on traveling more sustainably? It's something that's been on my mind more recently and you're a you tuber that has mentioned it so I know you're thinking about this. What are some simple strategies or attitudes that I could think about and implement to be gentler on the planet as I travel? With concerns about over tourism and air bnbs crowding locals out and increasing housing costs, I want to be a more respectful guest in a culture and place with lower negative impact.
Good ideas. I find packing is a problem every time I travel. Even overnight. ie change of season, climate, what doing. We have 4 seasons in a day so need to choose wisely.
Can not believe you didn't pack a belt and second pair of sunglasses. 😂 I'll also add dresses but I feel this seems to be a Canadian thing? No way would dresses not be the first thing in my packing for Italy, Greece etc summer holiday.
This is so helpful, I took notes! I’m a runner too and would love to hear any suggestions for wearing running shoes and feeling cute while traveling. I feel so frumpy in mine, but alas, I need to bring them!
LOL. My prescription reading glasses take up a ton of space because the end of the ear-piece/arms bends down so far. I've had to change my handbag because of it! :)
Your videos had me loving those sandals and I looked up Emme Parsons. The cost had me saying no. Vionic makes a pretty decent, and very comfortable dupe (my pair has one diagonal and one horizontal stripe).
Hello, I love watching your travel videos! May I ask a favor. Could you make a quick mention or insert what the temperatures were when you visited that particular place? I love seeing and knowing what to wear but would like an idea what the weather is like at the time of travel. Thank you so much for your tips!! ❤
Have you spent time in the Andalusia region of Spain? I am going there October 18 through November 3 and it could be warm but it could be getting cooler and I just don’t know what to pack besides layers…but layers of what? Will a lightweight oatmeal cashmere sweater look to wintery? we went to Italy the exact same dates five years ago and when we left the forecast was for high 60s low 70s and we got there and it was 80+ and I was dying because I wasn’t prepared so paranoid about this trip 😊
Love this so much but I do think you would totally benefit from getting keratin treatment to your hair. It will give your hair hydration and get rid of the frizzing....❤
Currently in Milan and I did not do carry on only - soooo many regrets 😭 any store recs to get a few staples while I wait for my luggage? I’ve learned my lesson!!
Love this video! But tell me, how comfortable were those emme parsons sandals? And do you have cheaper alternatives you could recommend that would be really comfortable for the amount of walking one does in Europe?? 🙈😅 looking for something stylish, strappy but can take me through those 15k steps a day.
I’m going to Rome, Amalfi and Sicily last week of Sept and first week of Oct. I am also wishing I could take a basket bag , but I’m going carry on only. How did you fit it in your luggage? I’m concerned it will take up valuable real estate for actual clothes I will need. But it’s Italy and I want a cute bag.
Is it weird to ask what bra you’re wearing underneath the blue shirt? I saw it peek through, and it’s EXACTLY what I’m looking for! I’d love such a style of bra to wear with deep v neck summer dresses
Was it tricky to pack your basket bag in carry-on luggage or did you have it as your personal item bag? And, how do you manage your linens? Do you bring a steamer?
I spot clean or was them once or twice depending on where they’re worn and in what context - I always travel with my tru earth strips so I can wash even without facilities!
Hello Alyssa, so, your Gucci scarf is nothing short of emblematic. How do you go around with it as a top without fearing it will get destroyed ? By sweat, wear and tear (esp if you have to tie it)... I know it's silk and that wears well, but still! thanks and have a nice summer!
Hi Alyssa. I love these review videos. I've really been eyeing a straw tote and I have hesitated because I'm not sure how it would fit in my carry on. Is yours really thin? Did you have a hard time making it fit?
great travels. Just wondering are you alone or with husband? as I am alone was curious about your general impressions of alone travelling in case you are without a company as well...
How do you tuck in your power of people button ups without them being lumpy? I got the white one )proper fit) and it was my first purchase from them and was so excited but I feel like I can’t wear it with any of my pants because they’re more fitting pants, they’re not tight, but they show everything when you tuck it in. I didn’t feel like it was long enough for me to tie it like you do. Now I’m looking at that pretty blue one you have and I’m wondering if I’ll have the same problem. Is the blue one thinner or softer material than the white proper? Your shirts look so malleable and my white one, though excellent quality, seems so stiff. Do I just need to keep wearing it and loving it like you do with yours? 😂
The navy POMP is in linen. I have this and it is beautiful. I just got back from Mallorca and used it a lot. Mainly as an extra layer at night in case I needed it. Also a coverup at the beach. It also worked great tied at the waste. Love the matching navy buttons on this shirt.
In short: A movement critical of fast fashion. You try to shop your closet, buy new items thoughtfully. Try to get much wear of the single item you have, buy second hand an make clothes last.
I LOVE this question … it is a mindset - a way of consuming and producing fashion that is centered around wearing what you already have, and shopping slowly and thoughtfully so as not to waste human or natural resources. A big part of this channel is choosing creativity instead of overconsumption (shopping our closets to restyle what we already have, learning our own style to shop smarter and be true to ourselves)… I hope this helps! ❤️
I appreciate your content & approach. However, the way you keep promoting sunglasses, having lots of different pairs, etc. I conclude you must not need real glasses in order to see. In Europe prescription sunglasses can easily cost €900-€1,000 (that’s minimum $1,338 Canadian) just for the lenses, before you think about selecting fashionable frames. So, no, I don’t have two pairs I can take on holiday. One pair is aspirational at this point.
Wow - I live in Europe and my prescription Karen Millen sunglasses were £70 - I also got another pair free (Specsavers) You can buy a pair of glasses and have the lenses changed - no need to pay £1000’s!

I'll also add dresses but I feel this seems to be a Canadian thing?
No way would dresses not be the first thing in my packing for Italy, Greece etc summer holiday.
This is so helpful, I took notes! I’m a runner too and would love to hear any suggestions for wearing running shoes and feeling cute while traveling. I feel so frumpy in mine, but alas, I need to bring them!
Great video! So helpful. Though, my pre-loved polarized Prada sunnies are wrapped, and their case takes up a ton of space. A privileged problem!
LOL. My prescription reading glasses take up a ton of space because the end of the ear-piece/arms bends down so far. I've had to change my handbag because of it! :)
lol indeed! but good to know!
Love Power of my People shirt!
Great Video - love your Content Alyssa ❤
Now when you go in the water to swim you leave your bag unattended on your towel?
Is it weird to ask what bra you’re wearing underneath the blue shirt? I saw it peek through, and it’s EXACTLY what I’m looking for! I’d love such a style of bra to wear with deep v neck summer dresses
Are the Emme Parson String Sandals good for walking?
Was it tricky to pack your basket bag in carry-on luggage or did you have it as your personal item bag? And, how do you manage your linens? Do you bring a steamer?
How often do you wash your shirts? I had to stop at the 1 week mark to wash all my clothes because this heat is relentless!!
I spot clean or was them once or twice depending on where they’re worn and in what context - I always travel with my tru earth strips so I can wash even without facilities!
What size did you get in the PoP linen button down?
Great tips! What size scarf is best for using as a top?
Hello Alyssa, so, your Gucci scarf is nothing short of emblematic. How do you go around with it as a top without fearing it will get destroyed ? By sweat, wear and tear (esp if you have to tie it)... I know it's silk and that wears well, but still! thanks and have a nice summer!
Hi Alyssa, great video. Where did you get those light blue jeans from? Is it old Sezane collection?
So you pack in a carry on only? Where do you put any items you buy then?
If you ever want to start a second channel, I think you could do some beautiful travel vlogs!
Hi Alyssa. I love these review videos. I've really been eyeing a straw tote and I have hesitated because I'm not sure how it would fit in my carry on. Is yours really thin? Did you have a hard time making it fit?
I thought it would be difficult but this one packed flat and is VERY flexible so it packed so well!
great travels. Just wondering are you alone or with husband? as I am alone was curious about your general impressions of alone travelling in case you are without a company as well...
Brilliantly 🎉🎉🎉🎉
LoL - scarf is great....but not a stand alone top on my body! Maybe 🤔 your's! 😅
Hi Alyssa! Where are those khaki shorts from??
Where is the white coverup from?
A market in Lecca, Puglia!
Please, what size do you wear with the blue linen shirt from POMP?
The navy is a Medium! I typically wear a medium but they do have a boxier fit so would advise true to size unless you want an oversized look!
Where do you try on the emme parson’s sandals in canada to know your size?
I have emme parson's Bari sandles. I'm a true US-9. I got the size 39. perfect.
Great picks. Love Everlane but had the same experience with the air tees - so comfortable but the holes! Won’t be purchasing again.

I live in Greece and I am finding that even linen clothing items are too hot to wear🤦♀️
I think your choice of fabrics are great, but you must have access to an iron.
What is slow fashion?
Oh my dear, welcome to our world. Prepare to change your life!
Hard to wear that kind of shirt if you are short, you are tall. It’s easy to wear clothes if you are tall
