- "The Bells at Temple Square are excited to present their annual spring concert “Bells in Motion.” Performed on June 9, 2023, at the Salt Lake Tabernacle. This talented 33-member handbell choir, led by conductor LeAnna Willmore and associate conductor Geoff Anderson, will showcase their versatility on two sets of English handbells, two sets of hand chimes, and two octaves of English handbells.
The Bells at Temple Square was established in 2005, adding a new dimension to the musical tradition of Temple Square. All members of the bell choir, like those of The Tabernacle Choir, Orchestra at Temple Square, and Chorale at Temple Square, are volunteer musicians. The bell choir rehearses every week for various performances, including two yearly concerts that showcase the broad spectrum of the handbell repertoire.

A beautiful concert. I just keep asking myself how these types of bells work technically. It seems that 2-4 different tones can be played with them and sometimes they sound quite like electronically generated sound. So a bit like synthesizer. With a classic glockenspiel you have exactly one bell for each tone and they also look different in shape. Even the small bells used by the altar boys and girls work and sound different. I would be really interested to learn more about the technical sophistication of these instruments. Thanks very much. But please don't misunderstand me. I don't want to badmouth the concert and the performance. They are bells and I am very fascinated by what everyone here can do, from the conductors to the other musicians and the chimes.
