FYI, Traxxas is now listing STEEL upper and lower suspension links for the TRX-4 on their Parts page. Also, I know they're getting a complete set of upgrade stuff ready to roll out with the Bronco version and the kit version of the TRX.
And, yeah, the darn thing IS bloody expensive, but, like the old saying goes, "anything free is worth what you paid for it."

OMG...Thank you. I was buying the Traxxas TRX4 Defender model in that same color and I wanted to do the very things you mentioned. I'm new to this hobby so I wanted to come in strong but confident and a top-heavy rig isn't helping. So I'm definitely slightly widening the track and upgrading the wheels.

Love my defender TRX-4 wouldn’t change it, love how it’s heavy and built like a defender. All I will change is the steering servo and go for metal bumpers for a proper defender look. That being said I probably will go down the brushless route too.

Thank you for this video, super helpful for a newbie like myself. Just got a Sport and what i am really impressed with other than the crawling abilities is the runtime you get on a 5500mah battery (2s), ran 40 min nonstop and still had 48% juice left.

@@quarans08 I don't recommend a hose unless you are going to check and lubricate the bearings after. Just dry the car off real good, brush off any dirt, dry out the tires if they got wet and sit it on a stand elevating the tires. The worst things for your truck is to be stored away wet. Awesome video man!!! ;) I was going to pipe up at the 0:31 mark and ask about the Crawler comment. Then figured I'd keep my yap shut and watch the entire video ;) It stuck in my head as the idea of a Rock Crawler, and then I was ready to ask Crawler? Or Scale Trail? The only reason I was thinking this is because I love flogging the Scale Trail rigs on the serious Rocks, and everything you have described in this video is pretty much hitting the nail on the head!!! The TRX4 is pretty much the ultimate Scale Trail running rig straight out of the box ;) Just my opinion though ;) That 1.9lb body along with the stiff shock oil, makes for an impressive running Scale Trail rig ;) Okay, I'm done yapping, great video man!!! ;)

AMain Hobbies, I've had 3 TRX4 rigs. Sold the first one with two Nero's & a Fazon. Then bought two more TRX4'S, but lost my gopro hero black 4. Then was offered to trade one TRX4 for a hero 5 black. So now I'm back down to only one red velvet TRX4... it's bone stock and still in the wrapper ;) I have been beating on the SCX10 II RTR. I will buy 4 more TRX4 rigs though, because I want a red & silver running bone stock. Then a red & silver running only a set of wheels and tires, then the 5th one is going to be a test only rig.

VXL brushless motor (velineon) don't like to go slow, it hacks when you give it very little gas. So you just need to learn to look up fact before giving a dumb reply. If I got the cheap one with brushed motor maybe that would be another thing, have not tried that one out yet.

I'm 30 don't know how old you are for me to be a kid but okej. The motor on the Summit 1/16 vxl is SENSORLESS so I don't need to try it becouse I allready got it ;) I've bought it becouse I wanted something more to bash with. I've now bought the new TRX4 bronco to crawl with and if I want something more to crawl with I'll just buy it. If I would like to upgrade to brushless motor on the crawler I would go for a Castle SENSORED motor, those can actually crawl :) So who needs to learn before commenting again ? =)

You don't have to get new wheels and tires if there glued together, the tires can be removed then glued back on after adding weight or changing foams. Preheat your oven to 250 then turn it off. Wrap the wheel/tire with aluminum foil like a baked potato then place in oven for 5 minutes. Remove from oven, unrap and pop the tires off while there still warm. Nothing is going to get damaged like the old school way of boiling them.

Yes it does, but it is minor. Trail Trucks operate at such a low speed, the weight almost doesn't matter. The performance gains of lowering the CG of the truck outweighs any disadvantages of the additional weight on the wheel, so it's a common strategy.

One main reasons why I like my international scout two. You can put a big pack in it. And it's lower than the defender. Since I got that crawl. I haven't been looking at traxxas since.

    • @KTMcaptain
      @KTMcaptain Před 6 lety

AMain Hobbies it would be cool to have them be clear (not for weight adding purposes) and led lit red whenever you brake so it looks like your rotors are glowing.
That's awesome that it can give you more points, but remember unsprung mass adds many detrimental attributes. If you hit a rock too fast, then it's stored kinetic energy that is not isolated by the suspension will direct weight upwards and can cause instability. So great for crawling but adds poorer handling the faster you go.

    Not as helpful
There are brass spacers for wheels and are much cheaper then new bead locks. Also there are brass front bumper mounts which are very helpful for climbing. I took the roll cage off of mine and it does not tip as much. You can also get a new, heavier bumper to add to the weight.

You'll need the "hex" style: www.amainhobbies.com/beef-tubes-beef-patties-brass-2-hex-style-bftbt005hb/p-qqazqstqhzzxactz
These will replace the hex on your truck and add 2mm per side. The TRX4 uses portals but that shouldn't be an issue with these, but can't say 100%.

Hey Troy. Good question. The 185 hubs are probably what you want. If that doesn't work for you, keep them clean with the original packaging and we can return them for you, but I think the 185's will be close to stock offset.
