@@lukepeita5402 ,'fcto
@@lukepeita5402 The whole thing is based on flawed thinking and an awful lot of guesswork. The maintenance cost ALONE on this sort of build is going to be prohibitive in the long-term, leading to fewer cruise arrangements and a consequent loss of income.
Further to all that, it should be remembered that during the post-sail days and the advent of powered vessels, simplicity was regarded as a necessity - one to keep the initial cost down, and two, to keep maintenance outgoings to a minimum; however it's in man's nature to "improve" such machinery to maximise performance, so it's obvious that "tweaking" hardware will eventually lead to failure of some of the more heavily-stressed items in the drive train.
In the case of ships, you can multiply those extra costs by fourfold to get anywhere near the potential losses of overstressing ANY aspect of the original specifications of the vessel - so the OBVIOUS inference is to keep everything as simple as possible.
"Pushing the envelope" might seem to be an added attraction, but when weighed against the possibilities of overloading / overstressing even minor parts of the ships' inventory could have even bigger ramifications, not only from local upsets among the passengers and crew, but to the good name of the company as a whole.
In short, and using the well-worn RN saying, "keep it simple, stupd"!!
The thing that amazes me is that its built around 650 million along with all of the stuff, and there are superyachts cost a 1/6th or a 1/4 for there yachts! I think it is very awesome how humans can do this in 3-4 years!

Great to see that it was all done in a European shipyard and that it incorporated many new technologies and technologies not previously used on such vessels.
Truly a masterpiece of design, engineering, technology, construction and outstanding workmanship!
@Gordon Ring Your post certainly is!
95% of all cruise ships are built in yards in Finland, Germany France and Italy. So almost all of them are European. But competition is fierce between the shipyards, so they all use the latest technology. There's nothing special about this ship, it was not bigger or more sophisticated than others built at the time.

Wow. This hydrodynamic engineering and Computational Fluid Dynamics is going to revolutionize the way that ships have sailed for the last 300 years. Modern ships always had pointed bows and propellers. As long as you can fit through the Suez Canal I guess you're good to go, now. There has also been great strides forward in the development of hydrofoil techniques, too, for smaller craft. My Dad was a foreman at a Republic Steel plant in Ohio in the 1950's and he said they made the best steel in the world. He would be very proud at how steel is being produced and used now.

even more impressive when you convert that to 52,834 gallons of water per person per day.

1. Have a long term mindset.
2. Be willing to take *risk*.
3. Be careful, if you're not spending to earn back, then stop spending.
4. Never claim to know - Ask questions and it's best you work with an assistant.

What an astounding feat of engineering. And what is entirely missing from the lovely presentation is the magnitude of consumption. Thank goodness it is 20% more efficient yes. Yet that relative number fails to mention it consumes on the order of 100 kilos of fuel per passenger per day. Thank about that. Each passenger is living in his own car with the engine running at maximum speed 24 hours a day. And the sulfur emission is 8 times worse than what a car is allowed to produce. The stink is so strong that even in a 40 knot wind (70+ kph) designers need to manage the airflow so that passengers don't smell it, it blows away to fall as heavy particulate and acid rain and produce 1/8 of the world's sulfur emissions. While it produces 500,000+ human deaths per year (specifically cruise liner emissions per the WHO), it does partly reflect solar energy and lower global warming.
Stunning super machine!
I really enjoyed watching this technology marvel
I do not want to be stuck on that ship, crammed elbow to elbow with 7,000 people. No Way !
when covid happening, yeah not ever gonna happen in 10 years.
@@smokyblackeyes3615 this statement would be no less true if infectious diseases didn't exist.
Not that it really matters, but there's never 7k people onboard of that ship. With crew, it's around 6k. Even the larger cruise ships can't get near 6,5k at the moment.
@@Rikitikisiki Oh, like that's really a difference.
Azipods were first introduced by ABB in 1987. Hardly revolutionary that this ship and mot others like it are using them 33 years later. But hey this ship is soldered together and that is revolutionary
_"But hey this ship is soldered together and that is revolutionary"_ That's not revolutionary either. They've been building ships using the "block" system for almost 20 years. All contemporary ships are built like that. Welding itself goes back to the late 1880's with metal hulls and all-welded ship construction started in the 1940s. There is literally nothing new in presentation. But it is still cool seeing the ground-up inside story.
@@g1a1r1y3 Oh I was being snarky about using soldering instead of welding. Later in the doc they do say welding. But i am pretty sure soldering is not a joining method for ship blocks.

This is one of the best documentry ever seen
guys please know we have all did evil (sin) and we are punished with death and since evil separates us from God we will go to hell. But God lovingly gives us a way out through Christ where we can be saved if we believe and confess Christ as Lord. We are saved as he paid the debt of our sins on the cross. Follow God and abandon your sinful ways please as if we stay in them we shall still go to hell as we will deny Christ(also if you want please read John 3:16 it's not long)
Marvellous work of engineering
A real floating city on the water. Incredible! đđ
Nice.đ
I was on all 4 Disney ship builds. A very dangerous and exciting experience.
Explain more
If you're living on the ship during the final build it's like being on the Poseidon. Exposed cables pipes, construction noises constant alarms, unreliable air heat water and power, water bottles of piss everywhere because workers don't want to climb 14 flights of stairs to pee, the noise never stops. Plan on camping out. There was a group of other contractors like me that would find each other on every build and share survival tips like; the lion's head in the women's spa will dispense ice. Improvise, adapt and always have a flashlight.
@@joemalinchalk1314 Yeah, nowadays they donÂŽt even finish elevators on time. Imagine having 60 year old "inaugural"- passengers going from Deck 5 to 14 by foot. This business is madness. Shame itÂŽs (almost) always a great experience
That's Very impressive Technology It's So Amazing đđđđđ

My head hurt when I saw those blueprints with millions of lines and number đ
I have had it explained to me several times but I still don't get it - How does an 80,000 ton ship float? I also heard once that a cruise liner running everything can only travel its own length on a gallon of crude oil, it makes you wonder doesn't it...
Simple, really... The ship weighs less than the amount of water it displaces, therefore it floats.
@@Watchdog_McCoy_5.7x28, yep, thatâs how it works. If the ship takes on too much weight, itâll weigh more than the water it displaces and the ship will sink.
If the ship were too light, it would sit too high in the water and be too difficult to maneuver.
Great tactics of the ships
It is amazing what humans can achieve.
Can we download the drawings now and the owners handbook and start building one in the backyard beside the garage.
Haynes do a manual.
a ship like this has around 150,000 drawings and just the manual to start the engines is around 600 pages!
If it requires diesel fuel for 4 generators, then how exactly does it "produce it's own power"? By that standard, my lawn mower belongs in this conversation.
I was wondering about this part of the specs. Flannel. Every one of these buckets represents an environmental tragedy. We are gazing through the wrong end of binoculars. Everything we do or touch seems to be destructive. This is going to bite back.
"To calculate the hydraulic flow they used computers" "To determine the amount of scrubbing needed to clean the exhaust fumes they used computers" "To optimize the wind routes to protect the guests, computers were used." -> cuts to the same scene of the woman on the computer with a CAD file open.
Thanks!

Yes, we really need cruise ships now, don't we?
It entered service in June 2017.
I would of liked some interior shots of the finish ship.
I cruised on this in 2019 beautiful boat

back reverse haha!
I miss my Time on the ship ist was awsome
I don't.
@Gus W Poor Ickle Wickle Gussie the failure, even failed at trolling.
I'm always amazed how such things float 80'000 tons of metal floats like a dream yet a 14 stone man can drown in minits .
They can drown in minutes too
It's simple. The weight of the water that the ship displaces is less than it weighs. The ship is mostly air, water is heavy AF. Doesn't matter if it's a log of wood or 100k t ship. As long as the displaced water weighs more than the ship it will float.
Every single cruise ship documentary acts like Azipods were invented for the specific ship when they've been around for like 40 years

It boggles my mind how things like this float. So heavy and yet slices threw water like a knife threw butter.
"slices threw water"? .... were they orange slices?? lemon slices???, and where did they throw the water?? where did the knife throw the butter?? in the interests of literacy I would suggest replacing "threw" with "through". As to boggling, yes, how DOES a 80,000 ton boat slice through water like a knife through butter?
