  • Harsh Noise Wall...What is it, and what is the significance of it?
Vomir, taking heeds from the Japanese noise music scene--namely Merzbow--and utilizing harsh noise as a genre, created what he dubbed a genre that is completely and utterly 'anti-music."
Harsh Noise Wall exists as both as a musical statement and movement to challenge everything that is considered normal and acceptable in the musical landscape; not simply sonically, but stylistically.
In this video, I go over the origins and sounds of Harsh Noise Wall, as well some of the philosophy of the creator and spearheader of the genre, Vomir.

Starting off a new series of 'rough guides' to genres, movements, bands, labels, etc! And I thought what better way to kick it off than one of the most idiosyncratic and hard to describe/understand musical genres there are?! Harsh Noise Wall!!!!!!!
What're your thoughts of this musical genre and movement/Vomir in general, and just harsh noise as a whole?! Be sure to let me know down below!!!!!!! But for now, have yourself a fantastic rest of your day or night, depending on when you see this. Cheers, rock on stay and heavy!!!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Check out the Rough Guide playlist for more genre run-throughs!!!!!!! :D

My favorite thing about harsh noise is how raw and cathartic it is. It demands your attention and for some reason it calms me down if I’m stressed or thinking too much. Also it’s fun noticing little changes in the static.

My take on this video is that Merzbow, Masonna, Hanatarash and The Gerogerigegege are the Big Four of noise. I think they are equal in quality and personally, my journey went from Making Orange Things to Merzbow's 1930 to Masonna's Spectrum Ripper. These were the things that drove me to start my own noise projects and become a noise freak. There are a lot of acts that don't get enough attention because Merzbow is so monolithic as an artist.

I'm an ambient music artist that also does harsh noise wall. They're two sides of the same coin. I love contradictions.

I listen to HNW to block the noise of everyday life away. It's kind of meditative in that regard. The music is layered in a way that is domineering. Like I feel like most noise music appears 'loud' because it is busy. HNW is ultimate businesses, there are hundreds of layers competing with each other that become audible depending on the approach of the listener.
The result is something that is domineering due to its presence but also incredibly complex and dense that can be deconstructed.

Fuck yes best comment!!!! I love seeing Masonna mentioned in the wild. I fucking love him and he inspired 80% of my own noise work. I have the purple variant of Spectrum Ripper on vinyl and the CD for both SR and Inner Mind Mystique. ABSOLUTELY one of the best dudes out there.

Haven't watched yet but I notice a huge difference already in the viewership of this video vs the video about Varg, Shows the fanbase pretty well if u ask me. Again, Good job on that video, u stopped about 10k people from their endless search for the loving touch of another human so they could sit and stew in their own worthlessness for a bit lol. Anyways I'm hype to see this guide on one of my fave genres
