I don't think there are words that can describe the intensity and originality that the Pixies portrayed
Do you remember that coment 13 years ago?? Time flies doesnt it? Well i just wanted you to come back to this awesome clip of the Pixies live music 😊, greetings from Basque Country, being a fan of them since i was 13 back in the last 90's.
This concert should be frozen in time for the eternity.
Joey constantly has the "where am I and what am I doing here?" look.
He is functional
This set of 3 songs is probably the best clip of Pixies on youtube
I agree
I agree also.
Definitely!!
What are the odds that these 4 people found each other by chance and created the most epic rock band of all time? It must be billions to one.
Well, Frank and Joey met at UMASS, were suite mates, and jammed a lot. Then Frank studied abroad in Puerto Rico and did not enjoy his time. He wrote a post to Joey asking him if he was ready to "do it to it", Joey said yes, they put an ad in the paper looking for a female bassist for "Husker Dü" like band. Kim flew to Chicago and got Kelly's bass (her sister and cocreator of "the Breeders"), came back, introduced Frank and Joey to David Lovering who became the drummer by using a coffee table as a drum set in a jam session. I could go on, but the odds drop tremendously that yes, there are 7.6 billion people on earth, but merely only 350 million Americans. Put that with the fact that they were all in Boston at the same time and being American musicians, the odds aren't as astrominacal as you may think. Still, I thank the stars they did find each other. ✌
@@jonathanrandol794 Awesome dude
Love' em Love'em more more hey hey hey
Kim Deal.
@@jonathanrandol794 Actually the ad said, "band seeks bassist that's into Husker Du and Peter, Paul and Mary." Kim Deal got such a kick out of the odd mix of musical references in that particular ad that she eagerly went to audition to join the band - despite not being a bassist. She was also the only one to audition. :P
Imagine seeing and hearing Levitate Me live, like this, for the first time. That is a genuinely exciting song. Incredible.
Breaks a string on his acoustic, switches to electric.
Breaks a string on his electric...
Plays his shirt instead.
He cannot be stopped
It couldn't have broken at a better time tho really, lucky break!
That was some hard strumming. But we wouldn't have seen that cool acoustic guitar for Where is my mind.
I love players/singers that don't know what to do with their hands while not playing an instrument. Kim is like this as well, if you see some (very rare) registers of her singing with ampty hands. Lol
i need a time travel machine
No you don't
one of the world most underrated band's ever
Saw them in Dublin 1991 absolute mental
The mark of a great band is how they sound live. Nothing worse then going to see a band you like and realizing that they suck. The Pixies sound better live then they do on their Great records. PIXIES =BRILLIANT!!!
If you watch I think Gouge Away, the Pixies documentary, Thom Yorke is talking about going to a Pixies gig, and walking out afterwards, thinking "well, what's the point?" Pixies blew his mind so much that Radiohead almost never happened
This must have been the greatest concert that ever happened!!!
So many songs, Where is my TIme Machine!
The best band there ever was.
Best version of Levitate Me i've heard yet. Crowd seemed to dig it as well.
Levitate is my fav song.
LoW Astra
Me too dude
Such a bop!!!
One of the most underrated bands of all-time.....
not under rated but not known enough sure, a LOT of artists have publicly praised the pixies, and they were well known, just not absolute mainstream knowledge like smashing pumpkins or nirvana for example.
@@ChristopherGray00 Agreed, if you know a bit about music, you'll only hear good things about them
Except they're cited by musicians as much as SPARKS
They're SEMINAL
I think Where is My Mind sounds beautiful here
I agree
loving the shirt guitar @4:40
IMO "Levitate Me" is the song that redefined music for that period.
Frank breaks the string on the electroacoustic guitar @ 3.01..then change with the electric one and also breaks the D string @ 3.45...2 strings in 45(WOW) secs but I think this was down to the fact that they were using metal picks following ALBINI (producer) instructions to use ambiance on drums and metal picks to give the raw(in the room) PIXIES sound.Hence after this unlikely event He goes towards Kim and whispers the Plan B"where is my mind"after"Ed is dead" AGREE??! Ciao..Italian Pixies fan
Fucking perfection.
Had “Come on Pilgrim” at 15 as my first vinyl alongside Skinny Puppy, Dead Milkmen and Jesus and Mary Chain. I loved the Pixies gift to music. ♥️
For somm reason they were at their peak in this concert. Gigantic especially. Just something about their energy and effort in this particular concert came through better than any other concerts and albums.
A reason to live.
The most undervalued band, which makes 'em even better!
God Charles voice in levitate me is incredible
Greatest rock band ever as far as i'm concerned.
Didn’t Radiohead go to this show? Jonny said they made their trip here in their College days. Just goes to show how much of a love affair for music can affect somebody else because you know how big Radiohead are, Hall of Famers them.
I miss Kim
I had a massive schoolboy crush on her...still do
Cool chick
Glastonbury missed her
Thank for this series of excellent quality songs uploader...
You know shes a real coo coo
She was my first crush too. The first CD I ever bought was "come on pilgrim" in '88 when I was 6... Have been the #1 the Pixies fan since, my 10 and 18 year old kids know the words to every song. I wrote a biography/thesis on them at Uni. I bet I could publish it... Time to talk to 4AD... Lol.
I LOVE your comment. The whole string breaking drama in the video is what makes me like it so much. My respect for the Pixies started with this video. However, I kindly disagree about what he says to Kim during Ed is Dead. It looks to me like he says, "keep playing bass". That section of the song is normally played with guitar. Italiani sono incredibili. Ho amici a Milano.
simply, best band ever.
I'm old and I've never heard lead guitar like this. I've listened to so many lead guitarists from endless rock bands. Then II've been trying to listen to every Pixies track on CZcams and I've gotta say like so many others, Joey Santiago is a genius. Actually all Pixies band members wreak of genius.
he is a pure receptor of the essence of creation
From UK a awesome band xxx
I actually like this version more than the studio version! Both are absolutely awesome though.
I think this is one of the best recordings of this song. I really like it.
Essa é a apresentação mais fodástica dos Pixies.
Transcendental music
Outstanding!
Genial saludos desde Colombia lml
perfection
This has to be one of the most significant concert events for modern rock. I bet the Radiohead boys are somewhere in that crowd. Wonder how many bands this recording inspired.
This concert actually inspired the Velvet Underground
Everytime i listen to "caribou" i think of radiohead. That song for sure inspired those guys!
can u fucking believe how great this version of levitate me is
Pixies mi banda favorita, y este uno de los mejores conciertos, gracias por compartir estos grandes videos
Love the Pixies and I know he was annoyed as hell for breaking strings on 2 guitars for the same song. It only added to the epicness imo.
@thePumpGr totally. they really have no bad songs in their discography. Some less great than others, but I usually just put on every song from Come On Pilgrim to Trompe le Monde on shuffle and I never find myself waning to skip any.
Gorgeous.
unique
自分たちが何をすべきか、なんの使いか、解ってるよね、このバンドは。気持ちがいいとこもなんとなく同じに聴こえるし^^

私の全世界は巨大なおならです。
i love watching joey survey the bit as it's all goin' down.
Kim Deal's father was a base rat who worked as a laser physicist at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Lot of rock stars with base rat parents. Been going on since the 60's.
How come? The kids grow up on air force base and end up using music to entertain themselves?
insanely good
What a night that was....
"Levitate me" excites me like few other songs damn!
C'mon Pilgrim you know he loves you!!!
I never liked the Pixies till a few weeks ago. I like them a lot now. I don't know much about them other than what I saw in their documentaries. During the 80's and 90's I thought they were terrible and ignored them however their legacy intrigued me. I now resent the music I was listening to in the 80's/90's and prefer the Pixies. My tastes changed because I grew to admire Franks approach to songwriting which really is quite exceptional.
Please come to Sweden and to Storsjoyran next year:-)
Ed is dead lead guitar is perfect
Is there anything that Joey does with the guitar imperfect? :)
Well Joey does tend to botch his own guitar work on live performances of Blown Away lol. Other than that not really :)
As much as I love the Pixies and how lonely I sometimes feel in loving them just now I came to realise that those ugly folks who deny the big big love will never be convinced no matter how much I'd try. Am I allowed to kill them instead?
Get a therapist, and use some damn punctuation!
The pixies are pretty big, they just aren't gigantic...so to speak
We love Kim Deal and Pixies x
I love that Guild d50 for where is my mind
Come on Pilgrims ... you know he loves you!!!
In 1988, pixies, sonic youth and dinosaur jr is alien.
Frank goes off in ed is dead hahaha
Nunca Jamas va a volver a suceder esto!
Just when he couldn't get any cooler, he pulls out a guild
Ciao Nelson,
grazie for the comment..I think they changed the song to do after ED is Dead `cause guitar had to be re-stringed and I think he says PLAN B(another song after ED) ..Anyway we know that Charles/Frank was a bit Nazi in the group he was the Leader and was checking everybody else meticulously..Joe(lead guitar) and David(drums) never said a word...The only one that could compete was Kim but unfortunately for us FAN she only wrote 1-2 songs and did not have the space she deserved it.Ciao
they were opening, OPENING! God help whoever had to follow this up
PS, the concert is on video in netflix last I checked.
zawy really! I hope it still is
What kind of pedal is Joe using using on "Where is My Mind?" I've never heard it before, and it's amazing! :)
WHERE IS MY BRAIN INTO THE STARS IN FIRE!!!
Absolute L E G E N D S.
If someone were to make a top 10 list of their favorite Pixies songs they'd all be tied for number one. What are the other 9? Who gives a f**k!
I knew you were that guy.
+LibrePenseur 😀
Genius. That is all.
I d give anything for them to take me on their spaceship to their homeworld
There sound was so strong
It really sucks how little crowds get into the music anymore. Everyone's on their phones taking videos of the band instead of actually being in the moment
You're going to the wrong venues then lol
@@AleTitan yeah I don't know why I said that. Been to many other venues since and I completely disagree with my previous comment lol
If this came out today, we wouldn't have bands like Nirvana, Weezer, The Smashing Pumpkins, etc.
Facts
oooooooooo kimmmmm!!!
Si llego a ir a este concierto, no hubiera sobrevivido. Pero hubiera valido la pena....
Круто
PIXIESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!
In where is my mind you can hear exactly what Cobain stole from the pixies
@andrewvanderleest fuck man... when he says that I get shivers.
Hello again Nelson,
I think you right that section is with the guitar he says: play bass?......Plan B,,,?Anyway I like wild Kim Still drinking on the can with few milliseconds to spare before starting the song....she rocks....did u followed her on her next group THE breeders? I' ll post you few good documentary with her if you want.....Ciao
Sounds like the records
DE DE DE DEADDDD
The only two US bands I fucking missed were the 2 I adored Pixies n Nirvana
You know what Van Halen said about records?? That if you put a record beside a Van Halen record it would melt?? Well, I thin that applies to the Pixies!!!!
omg no dislikes
ELEVATOR LADI ELEVATO LEVATO LADILEVATATE
they havent collapsed, an theres nothing init an ya ask ya self.., its weird like nirv. an weezer an others simple weird stark songs but Powerful and effective
Is this on a dvd?
Who cant liked that
If all is true........higher! Like a Canuck!
Interesting, I was actually referring to that interview. I took that as Thom commenting on the bizarre nature of the Pixies' songs. Like "what's the point" because it's so ridiculous
2:14 Kim sounds like Howard's mom from Big Bang Theory :P
Never again will this happen again!
I give my daughter name, Kimberley Ann Deal
Is this concert on any CD?
:D by Anna&Tinja :D
