  • Reich’s distinguished career spans three administrations, including a tenure as Clinton’s secretary of labor. He has been awarded the Vaclav Havel Foundation Prize for work in economic and social thought, and is the author of a dozen books, most recently Beyond Outrage. He is also the co-founding editor of American Prospect, co-creator of the film Inequality for All, commentator on NPR’s Marketplace, and professor of public policy at UC Berkeley. In his thirteenth book, Reich tackles the growing problem of economic disparity by focusing on the relationship between politics and corporate finance. Closely examining that revolving door between the two, Reich compares myths about both the minimum wage and top corporate compensation, and issues a call for civic action to change the status quo.

      +Ashley Sotelo If you think that the reform of capitalism can accomplish anything by writing new rules for the stock market and breaking up the big banks you are wrong. You can't regulate greed. We need a revolution like the one in Cuba started over 50 years ago by Fidel Castro and the 26th of July movement.

    Corporations will always find away around regulation by rebranding their products. For example: Does CZcams's hero program violate Intern laws by replacing a paid employee, or violate anti-trust laws by allowing a competitor to inspect its competitions products & organize boycotts of the competition? Is equality abused for Price Fixing Labor? Is Diversity used to segregate markets by using isolated inclusion? Will corporations avoid taxi laws by rebranding it as ride sharing?

    The problem with Capitalism is simple: There aren't enough of them. Instead of teaching our children to do well in school so that they can go out get a good job, we should be teaching our children to do well in school so that they can create good jobs. The vast majority of us are wage slaves.

      Unless you are part of the 1% by marriage, birth or friendship, then the system is rigged against you. Yes, you can do better until you get in someone's way that matters to the 1%.

    • @alexhenrymanfredi9909
      @alexhenrymanfredi9909 Před 6 lety +2

      The problem with capitalism is indeed simple...it condenses, successful companies get bought out, many owned by by one become a consortium, or becomes a syndicate, it becomes a cartel, it gets monopolized and the rest of us aren't members

    The bald guy wasn't saying the wealth was built up again, he was saying it never went away it just went into hiding during the progressive episode. And in that framing, he's insinuating that established power itself should be challenged, not just systems that create it. As Reich says, it's a chicken and egg scenario, the wealth and the state, but he doesn't take the bald guy's idea and develop it into 'the wealth needs to be challenged simultaneous to the economic reforms.' He could then discuss the ways to do that, because the economic reforms he and Sanders propose will only help Americans until the propaganda streams coming from "aggregate power" convince the people to dismantle the reforms.

    Why does he keep saying 3rd party tips are legal?
    Maybe he just doesn't know the law?
    105b certainly spells out a 3rd party acting on non-public information is illegal (in America Robert) and you can see prosecution examples in the news and SEC website.
    "(a) General. The “manipulative and deceptive devices” prohibited by Section 10(b) of the Act (15 U.S.C. 78j) and § 240.10b-5 thereunder include, among other things, the purchase or sale of a security of any issuer, on the basis of material nonpublic information about that security or issuer, in breach of a duty of trust or confidence that is owed directly, indirectly, or derivatively, to the issuer of that security or the shareholders of that issuer, or to any other person who is the source of the material nonpublic information."

      ***** No its actually very clear "www.sec.gov/rules/final/33-7881.htm" It was refined in 2000 to specifically address ambiguities around material definitions.
      "It is legal in the united states. It is not legal in most other countries" He is very specific.
      Maybe Robert just doesn't know the law. If so maybe he shouldn't profess to know this as fact?

    • @MrRexquando
      @MrRexquando Před 8 lety

      ***** Proving it has nothing to do with his poor understanding of the law. Read his lips "It is LEGAL in America... It is illegal in most other countries"
      Proving Robert is lying about the law is the point. One of many he professes to be facts or truths. Like teachers get paid by the federal government. He is trying to mislead the uninformed.
      He worked for the Clintons. Lying/miss-leading is probably second nature now.

    • @MrRexquando
      @MrRexquando Před 8 lety

      ***** 11:41 "Well it turns out that is legal in the united states"
      If you don't understand teachers are paid by the state you have no business even commenting. The fed indirect contribution is less than 4%.
      I know he has a JD that is why its disturbing he pretends to know econ and yet also doesn't understand basic law like 105b.
      He can only ben understood as a politicians pawn. Pushing an agenda as though it were fact.

    • @MrRexquando
      @MrRexquando Před 8 lety

      ***** He says "its legal in the United States" It's not. He lies.
      Teacher's salaries? You are a moron "osd.wednet.edu/community/use_of_tax_dollars"
      Yet another liberal brainless moron who believes everything the overlords feed them.

    • @MrRexquando
      @MrRexquando Před 8 lety

      ***** SEC 10b5-1 "www.sec.gov/spotlight/insidertrading/cases.shtml"
      3rd party tip (aka friend) is not legal.
      Your link is about expenditures not salaries moron. Mindless libtard. "How much money does the United States spend on public elementary and secondary schools?"
      Not a single word about salaries. Reich says 'the federal government pays teachers salaries' it doesn't like everyone who pays taxes see on their annual statement most of their property taxes go to the schools by the way of the state's general fund.
      You must not be a home owner huh..

    Why can't we solve the problem of money in politics by people paying less attention to ads? This is a pervasive weakness in leftist political thinking, that it's axiomatic that no problem is rooted in poor individual choices. This distorts policy. There is always danger is limiting free speech, even the speech of commercial entities.

    Capitalism is changing to something new, I would not save Capitalism in this sense then you would stop and kill an important progress and economic evolution.
    Capitalism is not effected enough, Capitalism does destroy itself like a virus by many reasons....
    1. Capitalism does support population growth. Is a bad thing on a point of limit we did reach.
    2. Capitalism is only based on Nature = Resources, it will break down by ending resources we still get no recourses from Space.
    3. Capitalism cause vanishing Nature by pollution, energy needs and Climate Change, so thus capitalism is very self-destructed
    So Capitalism needs to change and we will call it something else and not capitalism anymore, or we do keep capitalism alive and murderer a lot of people or nature = all Life on earth.
    If someone wants to debate this just tell me why I am wrong and not/never how cool you think capitalism is, because it is pointless, I really do not need to know and it is very unimportant when someone got a personal attitude on capitalism and I know also the advantages of Capitalism.
    The main things why Capitalism does not work at all and needs to change I did mention, so when you have something to say tell my why my points should be wrong and where is the logical and scientific fault I have done above and not/never tell me about a political stupid I love to have dumb attitude and not stupid personal wannabe wishes.

      +Michael Gebhart You can't pay someone so little, diverting the funds from us (i.e. Walmart's healthcare (welfare) plan). When you do "all of society loses purchasing power as a result." Take one minute to think about it...if people have more money they will spend more money...I know it probably goes completely against the trickle down theory...but haven't we the evidence to know that (trickle down) does not work since most of the money gets put in the bank or in investments that only grow them more and which do not generate taxes?
