Culture Club - ‘Church of the Poison Mind’ 👍🏽😉🔥
the song has some nice R&B flavor to me
Church of the Poison Mind I feel was their best one
the video is funny.. lol
I'm not a big fan of Culture Club, but that song's got SOUL.
Yes, please!
“Do You Really Want To Hurt Me” for your 4th song of theirs!
Yes it's there best song by far
I first heard "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" on the radio during Kasey Kasum's American Top 40. Loved it. Had no idea who Culture Club was, but thought the lyrics were quirky, fun, and held hidden depths and meanings. It was like 2 or 3 years later before I even saw Boy George on the album cover, and I thought, "Well ... good for you guys." Then a close friend and I decided to emulate them in full regalia at our Senior Class Show. I wanted to do this song, but my friend thought "Karma Chameleon" would be better because of the energy. I reluctantly agreed to it, but was worried because I knew the words to "... Hurt Me" much better than to KC. I didn't need to worry ... we brought the house down. Man, I miss the Eighties.
Culture club is terrible
I love their song "Victims"
Yep
Culture Club - "I'll Tumble 4 Ya"
church of the poisoned mind
Miss Me Blind is great too.
That’s my favorite Culture Club song!!
"Miss ME Blind" is a popular one by them. "Don't Take My Mind on a Trip" is a cool New jack swing song from when Boy George went solo. Produced by babyface.
It was Teddy Riley (from Guy), not Babyface. Teddy even mentions this in the Wreckx-n-Effect song "New Jack Swing". Teddy also did the remix for "Don't Wanna Fall In Love" by Jane Child.
Yes and we want to see you react to how hip hop, r&b, and funk was blended into a sound that makes you dance start reacting to that sound, start with Wreckx-N-Effect : New Jack Swing or Keith Sweat: I Want Her.
For a gay teenager out in the boondocks, seeing Boy George on MTV was very cool. Especially because people really loved him and appreciated his talent, regardless of how he presented himself (which was fabulous in every way)
He had his share of problems over the years, but he proved himself to be a survivor.
Still looking and sounding amazing to this day.
I’m so glad you had somebody to look up to. I grew up in the sticks as a preteen. I understand how the world can seem so small especially when this song came out. I never fit into their box either .❤️✌️🌼
Well said..I was 13, and at the beginning stages of coming to terms with my sexuality when Culture Club hit it big here in the states. Seeing him on MTV was a total revelation to me.
I remember Boy George being on the TV Show Donahue and him saying "I'm hardly Revolutionary in America you had LIBERACE before me" ! 😂🤣😋
Yup same here. Being gay was still very "secretive" back in the 80's. He was very interesting. I remember when he first became famous I wasn't sure if he was a male or female. You didn't see many people like him back then.
"Victims" is a stunningly beuatiful song. Very different from their other stuff, in the torch song style, When it came out we were like, oh, BG actually can realy sing. I think you'll love it.
YESSSSSSSSSSSS! "I'm Only Trying To Help You" is another one where he really shines.
Victims was the pinnacle of Culture Clubs music imho.
Not too keen on the video , but the song! Amazing.
Generation X arguably had the best musical upbringing.
Raised on 60's and 70's music from our parents. Grew up on 80's Pop, New Wave, Metal/Glam Metal, Alternative, Hip Hop, etc. and musically came into our own in the 90s!
The woman who did the booming vocals three quarters of the way of the way through this song , Helen Terry is considered the 5th member of Culture Club . She did many backing vocals for Culture Club and toured with them .
Check out Culture Club’s ‘ Black Money ‘ Live 1983 . Boy George and Helen Terry blow the roof off the concert venue and this is the favourite song of the band members
Black Money is one of my two favorites. Gorgeous vocals.
Younger people have no idea how groundbreaking this was in the early 1980s. Up until 1974 the American Psychiatric Association classified homosexuality as a "mental disorder." Boy George was the first openly gay man people saw and accepted, at least in my age group of 13 to 16 years old, along with many of their parents, during this time. Probably because he was so awesome.
I never knew he was gay.
Didn’t care and didn’t make a difference to me.
Sylvester, but he was Disco and not as mainstream.
What about Freddie Mercury
The 80s were undisputed in pop culture and fun
Time(A Clock of the Heart) and Church of the Poicon Mind are both great songs. Also Do you really want to hurt me.
Three excellent choices!😊
Time is a simply superb pop song
When I was 11-years-old Culture Club, Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Prince and Duran Duran were everything. Fun times.
❤❤❤
Boy George was certainly out of the box.
I'm not sure if all of us who lived in the 80s feel the same... but it's the decade you really wanna go back to. Everything was so colorful, happy (mostly) and OH MY GOD, The Music !!!
In the early 80s there was no stopping Culture Club. It was hit after hit! Boy George is a staple and an absolute Icon of the 80s! Funny how we didn't care about him being a transvestite. Everyone loved him! We all loved Culture Club (even rockers, although secretly) hahaha..... Not sure when or why society took a turn for the worst.
You kind of have it backwards with the transvestite comment.
@@Faltor895 how do you figure?
He certainly wasn't a transvestite.
He scared my as a kid. No denying his hit music is timeless.
he isn't/wasn't trans, he just wore drag.
Boy George: "The Crying Game" Thanks.
Some 90s Boy George right there
ooh i forgot about that one, wasn't that a movie?
@@MMMMLIBAD Yes, 1992
I had forgotten about The Crying Game. I do remember that it was produced by Pet Shop Boys
@@MMMMLIBAD Yes and was mentioned in the episode of Seinfeld by George after he saw his father Frank Costanza topless and Kramer said these were real hooters. "I was throwing up all night! It was my own personal Crying Game." As there was a Trans-person in that movie.
Culture Club - "Miss Me Blind" Real Banger !
YESSSSSSS!
The female scatting on this song is Helen Terry. She co-leads with Boy George on The Church of the Poison Mind. She is also featured on their song Black Money, off of the same album. Both should be reacted to.
Just what I was going to say 👍❤️
I LOVE HELEN TERRY!!!
I only had the Color by Numbers album for years and loved her singing and until just recently saw her actually sing in one of the music videos had the realization that she wasn't black! I always thought she was a black woman simply by how she sounds. Either way she sounds awesome!
@@nicolaanne4787 ❤
@@bradbarter8314 I knew she was White, because I saw her and Boy George singing Church of the Poison Mind on Dick Clarke 's Rocking Eve in 1983. Damn, I'm old🤣🤣🤣
In the 80's I was in my 20's. It was the best years of my life.
I was a teen in the 80s. It was a blast and I'm so grateful that was my decade!!!
Yes Jordan you are right! It’s what I wish I could live over again with how much amazing music we had and how it’s shaped me. Culture Club was the first band that opened my eyes, ears and heart to see life in a different way, give anything to do that again.
Miss me blind. Victims. Two good Culture Club songs
Victims is superb!!!
"I'll tumble 4 ya", "Church of the poison mind"
I'd forgotten about Helen Terry who used to do vocals, she had a powerhouse voice. We need more feel good music like this today
I love this song! You got listened to their song. Church of The Poison Mind. I love Helen Terry's backing vocals in this song and Church of The Poison Mind.
Move Away is a must listen to
🇬🇧 Culture Club first debut was on Top Of The Pops & they hit the headlines. No-one looked like Boy George, before or since. "Church Of The Poison Mind" by CC was another fantastic HUGE hit. Please make that one your next reaction to Culture Club. ❤🎶🎼
"The War Song" by Culture Club came out in 1984 when the threat of Nuclear War was an everyday thing in the 80's. I was 13 when this song came out, also " Mistake 3 ".
Welp, that song is appropriate for today lol
Music was such a huge part of my life in the 80s. We had MTV, Walkmans and boomboxes. If I wasn’t watching MTV, I was out with my Walkman or my boombox. I had a huge double sided cassette suitcase. We took music everywhere with us. I know we’ve had iPods and now our phones but it was just a different experience. There was the Solid Gold countdown show with Solid Gold dancers. It was just a fun time.
So glad I grew up in the eightees. My favorite one is Victims. So beautiful
Culture Club - "Miss Me Blind" should absolutely be your next reaction by them 👍
Culture Club - “Miss Me Blind”
That is a must!
Culture Club put out fun music. I'm a child of the 60s, 70s, and 80's. I could not have been born at a more perfect time, allowing me to enjoy all the music, movies, tv shows, pop culture, and fashion of all those decades, first hand. Give their tune, "Love Is Love" a try. It's from a classic 80's movie called Electric Dreams.
I was the biggest Culture Club freak in the 80s. My 2 favorite songs are "Church of the Poison Mind" and "Miss Me Blind". Also love Miss Helen Terry, the female background singer.
Miss me blind peaked at #5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in spring 1984... Definitely worth a reaction video 😊
Such an iconic 80's band. Boy George, such a talent! "Black Money" is another song I'd recommend. Helen Terry, is the powerful female voice towards the end, also quite talented.
Another shout out for Victims by Culture Club just a stunning vocal by Boy George.
Finally more of CC!!... Guys more Culture Club hits:
.The War Song
.I’m Afraid of Me
.I'll Tumble 4 Ya
.Church of the Poison Mind
.Miss Me Blind
.Do You Really Want To Hurt Me
.Victims
.Mister Man
Saw them in concert way back. They were great! “Victims” is a totally different sound.
I still have my War is Stupid Tee!
I love when you young folks appreciate our 80s. It really was just fun. Great time to be a teen. We weren't oblivious to the world's problems, but they didn't take away our joy of being young...plus, it now makes us fun old folks. Very different from the the old folks in our time! (I'm not one of those who grew up around the hippies.)
For Female Friday
Tasmin Archer-Sleeping Satellite
Maria McKee-Show Me Heaven
Sarah McLachlan-Building A Mystery
Neneh Cherry-Buffalo Stance
One of the biggest bands from the 80s and boy George was iconic and transcended culture, to the point where he had a guest appearance in the tv show."the a team", the Manliest of shows at the time. Always worth checking out their songs, all great.
Yes Jay the decade of the 80’s had the best variety of music, for sure!!
For those of us who grew up in the 80s we really did have the best of every Genre of Music at the time! From Hip-Hop, RAP, New Wave which were all New at the time.
Culture Club was a total sensation in the early 80s - just about everybody loved them! This song is so upbeat and fun; glad you did it. Their biggest banger is probably "Miss Me Blind" - some great guitar work in that one. I'm also going to suggest a minor comeback hit they had in 1986, "Move Away." Bit of a different vibe for them, very smooth. You'll love it!
Victims is brilliant too, the whole album is fantastic x
I was lucky to be a teenager in the UK in the 80s and this music makes me so happy and nostalgic.
this whole album was flawless! so good that "Color By Numbers" was put on a B-side of a 45 rpm.and Helen Terry absolutely kills it!!!
"Love is love" by culture club. Song from the movie "Electric dreams"
They had a minor comeback in 1999, with " i just wanna be loved". Did really well in the UK
Excellent that you mentioned that song because I thought it was superb and could easily have come from their golden 1982-1984 period - it was that good!
❤I love Boy George!!! 💖
Victims is a must....so many hits.
WHAM! - " Every Thing She Wants "(Remastered) the Original 1980s 6:33 Minutes Full Version. This is one of this Decades Very Best of the Best and most creative sounds and vocals ever. Jay & Amber you're going to Luv this Amazing Classic also the Intro gets you hooked with it's catchy and groovy Jamm sound
Oh I DEFINITELY had a Boy George poster on my bedroom wall :-D
The 80s are the best... fun tv shows, fun toys, fun music, fun everything! Culture Club were my first love as a very young kid.
Yes Culture Club in the house. Move Away is a another banger
Jay nailed what I experienced 1st hand, "The 80's = fun."
So many New Wave British artists looked different that we stopped caring about what anyone looked like. It was just about how fun the music was.
Love "Culture Club" and "Boy George!" He has such a great & unique voice and & sound. His look was amazing too. He was just beautiful. Gotta listen to "Do You Really Wanna Hurt Me" next.
You guys need to check out Haircut 100!
Yes!! band Haircut 100- “Love Plus One” and “Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)”!!! Nice horns on these songs! British 80s pop band.
Miss me blind !!!
The 80's was a great time to be a teenager. The music was diverse and it was all played on the radio.
Amber & Jay, Culture Club is an 8⃣0⃣’s British 🇬🇧 band that were invading the usa 🇺🇸 music market, just like Duran Duran, U2, INXS n many British Bands. Boy George was the lead singer and for Culture Club, Roy Hay was the lead Guitarist & Keyboards , Mikey Craig is the Bass Player & Jon Moss is the Drummer . U guys need to react to Culture Club's Church I Of The Poisoned Mind; Miss Me Blindj; I'll Tumble For You; music videos. U guys will enjoy.
INXS are Australian
"Miss Me Blind" and "I'm Afraid of Me". Many songs included the amazing vocals of Ms. Helen Terry, especially "Church of the Poison Mind".
You two look great and love the music
Yes, being a teen in the 80's was pretty awesome!
Helen Terry for back up is the perfect combo of 80's great music.
And there still performing to this day . Amazing voice .
You can really hear the soul in his voice if you check out some of their slow jams like “Black Money”, “Victims”, & “Love Is Love”....... 💯🔥🤙🏽😎
Culture Club - Time
Love a boundary breaker. Especially when it’s in the name of being yourself. ❤️
Jay/Amber - I think you'll really like "Miss Me Blind," "I'll Tumble 4 YA," and "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" (with the extended bass solo). Culture Club really was a super group in the day and yes, Boy George was definitely a trend setter who was way before his time.
Next songs from Culture Club: Do You Really Want to Hurt Me (slower song), Church of the Poison Mind (upbeat), I'll Tumble 4 Ya (upbeat), and Miss Me Blind (upbeat).
Boy George has an amazing voice
Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross (in UK 1999) and Dione Warwick live duet videos with George in the 80's in the US are cool. Also Culture Club mega album 'Colour by Numbers' had amazing songs never released as singles like 'Black Money' and 'That's the Way' both soul type - I prefer those over some of the big hits! George is currently just finishing his run on B. roadway in the hit musical Moulin Rouge. He's done around 109 performances and been a big success doing that too .
Culture Club God thank you woman 🔥🔥🔥🔥
"Culture club - Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" or "Boy George - Everything I Own"
I was born in ‘69 so when the 80’s started I was 10 yrs old. My teenage years were musically shaped with some of the best music ever and I realize how lucky we were up to this day. It’s always a joy to watch these reaction videos and see people discover 80’s music.
The 80s were the best!!! Culture Club was a big part of that for me!!!
Culture Club was a highlight of 80s music for me. Check out the very pretty song "Mistake Number 3".
Being born in 1956 ~ I was in my 30's during the 1980's. This song was big at the dance clubs which were EVERYWHERE! I've been fortunate to grow up during a music revolution and a cultural one as well. I'm impressed that you appreciate the music from the past and it's message too. Lucky for you ~ you were born during a time when this music and these videos are all available at the touch of a button! You get it all !Bless you both.
Culture Club are just so damned good.
“Do you really want to hurt me” should be next. And why not do “Do you wanna hold me” by Bow Wow Wow (great for Female Friday).
And George Michael-Monkey is a good uptempo 80s song to check out
I was a child of the 80s and I loved Boy George (still do), like many others. He was warm, funny, smart, artistic, talented, and what a beautiful voice. Thank you for highlighting Culture Club.
Another vote for Church of the Poisoned mind. Also, "Victims" is brilliant it really shows George's voice ❤
I exercise to this album every day!
I love this one, and used to stay up late to catch the video, plus I sometimes dressed like Boy George. As a black teenage girl in Alabama, I stood out a little in certain places, but for the most part, people would say something about it being cute or cool that I dressed like him. My mom and grandmother helped me get my outfits together. 🙂 I was also into dressing like Madonna and Cyndi Lauper, when they burst onto the scene.🙂

Cool 😎 ❤
I had a close girlfriend that loved Boy George and copied his outfits too. The 80s were so fun.
@@juliewhite7469
Thank you, and I agree about the decade being fun. 🙂
The sound of the 80s is like tropikana because of the SKA & REGGAE influence back then
War, Do you really want to hurt me, Victims. Church of the poisoned mind... Culture Club had so many great songs even though they only released a few albums, but there were hardly any fillers on them.
As a straight young man in the 80s, I LOVED and hugely respected Boy George!! ❤
Vesta Williams - "Congratulations" (1989). Stratosphere vocals!
song originally was originally called "It's America". They performed it already under that title live a year before it was actually released as "It's a miracle".
Other Songs by 'Culture Club' which would be good to react to:
"White Boy (You Dance Like The Enemy)",
"Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?",
"Time (Clock of The Heart)",
"Church of The Poison Mind",
"Victims",
"Miss Me Blind".
There are many more but these are good ones to continue with.
They've already reacted to Time (Clock of The Heart)
@@mat5379 Thank you for letting me know, I couldn't remember if they had or not.
IMO...Boy George's lesser played songs are the best. Black Money, Love is Love, Miss Me Blind... for starters.
My room was covered in posters from Culture Club. I loved that about George didn’t care what people thought he was himself. He has a beauty voice. I still own this vinyl.
Miss me Blind another great one, fab guitar and bass!!
Amber and Jay. Thanks for this reaction. Please the next Culture Club’s… Victims!
Boy, you're right, Jay! The 80s were special in the history of music. Each decade has its particularities and this is even more true with the 80s where genres of music rubbed shoulders like never before or since. Yes, of course, we had some battles and not very intelligent arguments about who liked one style and not another. But in general, we jumped from one style to another with equal joy and passion. Today, as i look back, I don't care about the different styles there were. For me, the 80s are the 80s and I put all the styles together. Hair Metal, Pop Rock, New Wave... Boy George, Micheal Jackson, Duran Duram, Madonna, Cindy Lauper, Motley Crue, Poison, Depeche Mode... It was the 80s and that's it.
The song was first called "It's America", relating to Culture Club's first trip to the United States.
The 80's WAS probably the most diverse era of music....in a positive largely happy world. The world wasn't perfect but life was a lot of fun....and way less judgy than today.
BTW, that fantastic soulful voice you heard near the end was Ms Helen Terry....one of the best backing singers going around.
Even though they weren't huge hits, Black Money, and That's The Way have some of the best vocals I've ever heard in any songs. The combination of Boy George and Helen Terry is unbeatable. The War Song is worth a reaction as well.
