iPad vs Macbook...Which is the best mobile device? czcams.com/video/6Ej0RMsHF3A/video.html
Since I use Google Docs more & more, I tend to use my iPad more often. For school & personal, the iPad tends to be more ideal nowadays.
@@mrmartywaring Are you using it in safari or using the apps?
@@JerrySchulze all the applies to the 11 inch?
Hi, I am going to be using my computer (or ipad) for some 1080p video editing and casual gaming, should I buy the ARM Mac Mini or the ipad air. Honestly I want to buy the ipad.
The best mobile device? Easy. It’s the device that works for you most ...
I’ve been iPad-only as a full-time freelance nonfiction writer for the last five years and feel you really shortchanged the device. It’s far more powerful than you seemed to suggest. For example, you don’t need separate apps to sign an emailed document or scan a document. You can sign and return a doc on the iPad without leaving Mail. And the Notes app features an option to scan anything.
Its true that I did not cover every feature of every app and I do love the iPad. I have lots of videos about the iPad, tips, tricks, and praise.
Hi, what iPad and keyboard are you using? Also, do you use word? Thanks
Yes. Yes you can. 😁 I replaced my ancient iPad air, Macbook air and Wacom drawing pad with iPad Pro 12.9 inch, magic keyboard and apple pencil. The iPad is perfect for my laptop needs; digital art, browsing websites, email, calendar, youtube/netflix etc., typing, iMovie for light video editing projects, Canva... I use my iPad now for pretty much everything except gaming. Obviously if you need very specific programmes or if you need several screens etc. the iPad might not be for you, but for basic laptop needs the iPad is just as fine as a macbook. 😊
Have you tried remote play with ps5 or cloud gaming like stadia? It feels like you’re playing on pc or tv
@@arkcorps9138 I recently got the new iMac with M1 chip and I use NVIDIA GeForce Now to play games like Apex etc. ☺️ I'm not a heavy gamer so Apple devices are enough for my needs.
@@arkcorps9138 But to actually answer your question; no, i haven't tried gaming on my ipad 😅
@@arkcorps9138 my husband plays Genshin Impact on highest settings on my 2020 12.9". He doesnt lugs his ps4 around whenever we travel now XD now I'm starting to consider subscribing to Apple One for the Arcade.
I survived my whole 11th and 12th grade with only my iPad Air 2. With it, I use office suites and Canvas lms on the browser. It worked well for me.
Really? I couldn't even use Microsoft office on my iPad air
It was 2018-2020 when I did that with mine. Occasionally I still use it and it still works. My IPad Air 2 is still included with the latest updates that’s why I can still use it.
Great video - thank you! I've been considering making this switch on and off for a few years and I'm getting very close to actually doing it. This video was one of the most helpful resources I've found. Thanks for breaking down the practical uses and what it would look like on the iPad!
Glad it was helpful!
I love the CZcams studio view on the browser way more than the app. So glad you mentioned the different views 💕💎
From my experience, the trackpad support is really important if you are using the iPad as a computer for browsing the web. Some sites just don't work well with a touch interface and I really enjoy having the option to interact with the UI in whichever way is best for the particular situation.
Agree!
You can but if you’re me. You end up playing Clash of Clans all day.
Ro 😂
Why i am buying an ipad.
@@flint2080 Which one?
@@falconreconeight nothing just the fact playing clash of clans was a factor at all. I am getting larger screen, but mainly for work purposes
@@flint2080 It was meant to show that people say IPads and IOS is limiting but going from IPad to Mac is just as hard. Every app works perfectly, there is no limitations that come when getting a budget mac or PC.
A lot of people don’t know this but you actually are able to scan documents through the native notes app. To do that, make a new blank note, tap the camera icon and press „Scan Document“. It works rly great for me!
That is true. Saving it those out of notes to files is a bit finicky.
Among all the 10 "Laptop or iPad" videos I've watched, your's is the best tbh
Wow, that's awesome. Thank you very much!!!
I think that after watching hours of videos, this one may have convinced me to go for an iPad and make it my personal computer (because I have a laptop at work, in case I need more productivity or something else more specific)
As a student, it’s hard to justify buying this, when we now have the M1 air at $899 for students. I am still rocking my 2020 MacBook Pro with the 8th gen i5, and it runs great for me. The only gripe I have with the iPad is that when you want to hook up to external display, all it does is mirror the iPad. My Mac let’s me have different tabs opened on my monitor. Something to keep in mind. Great video!
Finally! This is the first real review that actually explains the caveats of using the iPad as your computer and does not go into the iPad specs. THANK YOU! this actually made me decide to get the iPad vs a MacBook air.
Very cool! Glad it was helpful.
Very good overview!, bro!
My 2020 iPad Pro 12.9” is my sole computing device, and with my iPhone, as my camera (With the BeastGript Pro & Pro wide angle lens), I’m able to do virtually anything my black little heart desires!
Great vid!!!
Thanks and very cool!
The thing that got me, that I never considered... was how much more I prefer the magic keyboard over the MacBook keyboard. It feels so much better having the keyboard flat. It legitimately feels like the keys are just on whatever surface you are typing on.
Thats true, less of a rise in the wrist.
Great video! I just sold off my old 2015 MBP and ordered the 11” pro with a magic keyboard. Can’t wait 😊
Very exciting!
One of the best IPad Pro videos out there. Thank you
Wow, thanks!
Great video, thanks. I have the M1 IPad Pro and really want to get rid of my 2019 13” MacBook Pro. This video is helping me make that decision
Great review! Thank you.
Thanks!
This was a really useful review, despite it now being two years old, because it was quite general. These type of reviews tend to come from the perspective of a content creator. But this was useful as it felt like a more every-day user review. I'll be catching more of your channel!
awesome!
This was very accurate! And has been my experience with "Big Daddy" my iPad Pro 12.9. I still own a MacBook, but its the retina 13 from 2015. I rarely need to use it. My iPad Pro gets most all things done. Thank you! You're wonderful!
Thanks so much!
I kept telling myself I needed a Mac for graduate research when I’ve been sitting on an iPad Air for months now. I had a hard time getting used to the iPad at first. I just got the Magic Keyboard which helps it feel more like a traditional laptop for sure.
great!
great video i agree with these examples. ipad is awesome! like how buttery smooth the ios is.
It really is!

Thanks for your help in using my information systems.🇺🇸
The video was amazing what i have been looking for, got in the video
Thanks for the info
Completely agree, but you need a keyboard and the Apple Pencil definitely helps
They should give full desktop version of Safari to iPad. Just that will be enough for people like me whole does things online a lot as a teacher but prefers the larger 12.9" touchscreen.
Microsoft app/web version is still ok/usable for me. Kinda like Chromebook, but for iOS. I'm really contemplating the Asus CX5400 Chromebook over the iPad Pro 12.9" (selling the 2020 12.9” to buy the CX5400) due to the desktop browser, 11th gen i3, included keyboard and stylus.
This was a really informative video, ticked all the boxes, thank you!
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
@@JerrySchulze is this information all appli able to a 2020 ipad air ?
@@LarnieRadek yes, absolutely!
@@LarnieRadek did you get an iPad Air and use as a laptop? I’m just curious as I am debating whether to get one or not, to use for my uni work. Thanks in advance:-)
If you already have a desktop/laptop, then an iPad can be great secondary computing device that will do all the basics and a little bit more. I would struggle to recommend an iPad as someone's sole computing device, though.
Why? What features is it that you lose by switching to iPad. And don't say gaming ;)
@@oneiros666 I feel when using ipad you have only access to GUI and cannot or can hardly access the deeper control of the device, e.g. terminal on mac. This may cause headaches for IT person, who want to or need to manually install latest packages and tools, access servers, etc. using terminal. When a use case where a fancy GUI is useless or a burden, ipad will not be a good choice.
I tried! I went from my MacBook Pro to an iPad Pro. I do photo editing mostly, and unfortunately there’s just no match to the desktop version of Lightroom Classic. Even with Lightroom mobile on iPad, I had to use 3 different photo editing apps to complete most projects. I did have the magic keyboard and even though it’s expensive, it really makes the iPad feel like a laptop and I highly recommend it. Just my 2 cents :)
Thanks!
Facts. It’s just a larger phone for multimedia. Yes you can be productive, but it is best to get a laptop. A laptop has a great keyboard, trackpad etc. The magic keyboard is not perfect for me. I have an iPad, but strictly for watching movies, games, music etc
I mean as part of mobility it's impossible to type while having iPad and your keyboard in a lap so instead of that a laptop should work really fine for mobility perspective because not every time you want to sit on the desk
I am very tempted to switch to iPad for some of my productive activities. However, I do not like that the base services are Apple Only (Files, Photos, Browsing, etc...). I wish we could have 3rd party file management app which have access to the exact same APIs File has access to. Obviously the vetting process from Apple is much higher for security reason, but still, I would not expect 1000s of File management apps. Or make the developer pay for the vetting...
I don’t have an iPad Pro yet but if I do end up getting one instead of replacing my pc, it will be my secondary pc while my windows laptop will still be my primary pc
Great video
I am 100% Mac user and I learned a lot from this video since I don't have an iPad. I borrow my mom iPad to shop on Amazon and their app sucks big time. The layout all mess up and to so difficult to navigate. I am so with you Not download all department stores app. Just use the browser is perfectly fine. Less is more!!!
Yep. I actually made this video about that a while ago. czcams.com/video/VplUtaLKTaQ/video.html
I am a professional photographer of 40 years. This year I have moved my whole workflow to the iPad Pro. Love it. I use Adobe Lightroom, photoshop and affinity photo. All load 95% faster than the desktop versions. Much happier with this choice.
How can you use photoshop on iPad i find that very limiting
@@miriammacias8099 I have been doing this for the past 3 years and find it so much better than on a desktop machine. 90% is in Lightroom. 8% in PS and 2% in Afinity photo for iPad which is actually stronger thanPS.
I run a locksmith business with my 2018 6th Gen iPad and it does everything from inventory to invoicing. I use it for my daily living and have found products that help compliment the use. I have a card reader that allows me to use a flash drive, so cards, compact flash cards and even external herd drives so I dont have to take up a lot of space on the iPad itself…after all, it is only 32 gig… I have been able to find 3rd party alternative pencils from JamJake and a flip screen with keyboard from TypeCase and also a 2 way use Bluetooth/wireless mouse for it… I use it everyday. I am not a content creator so this iPad has completely replaced my computer…takes up less space and is way faster to turn on and start…lol
Thanks for that tip on using the web more so thn the apps
Glad it helped!
Fully agree. I have a desktop for heavy tasks
I did not upgraded my mac mini 2013 anymore, i am using ipad air 4 as my new computer connected via usbc hdmi to my monitor and i have a logitech keyboard , and logitech mouse bluetooth , i would say i am very impressed i edit my videos on my ipad air 4 and sometimes i used a apple pencil to edit video when im relaxing at home . This is my new computer and i love it, its very fast ! The ipad os is very optimized
I loved the experience of editing with LumaFusion on iPad. It's just fun.
@@JerrySchulze me too i love luma fusion on ipad
I purchased the 2021 M1 IPad Pro and it feels like a waste :( My windows computer broke and I literally can’t used any of my programs. (Mainly Ae, Ps, Unity, Blender) which is ironic because the hardware in the iPad is powerful enough for it. It’s just the OS holding it behind. Great video
This was a very good video that explains exactly what i wanted to know about using the iPad 2020 as my primary pc.
Wanted to know how good it can do the task as I needed a machine for medschool starting this year.

I feel like I can use my iPad for literally anything except for video editing and music creation. I’m so used to Final Cut and Logic Pro X, that I still need my MacBook Pro.

I use word in my ipad everyday for school. I do everything on my ipad pro other then if i need to do stuff like pearson who can not adapt to ipad so i use my pc but 90% of my work school work and business work is done on ipad
Hello Jerry, can you do a vid about speed of battery drain on the ipad when the following accessories are connected: ipad magic keyboard, Logitech combo folio, regular Bluetooth Apple magic keyboard and Apple pencil? That would help me determine if The ipad can become my only computer.
the main things I use my computer for are;
- Writing [scrivener and obsidian are both available on iPad]
- Music production [can switch from Ableton to beatmaker 3]
- Graphic design [currently using Affinity Design etc. Does anyone have any suggestions for iPad alternatives?]
- Video editing [any suggestions on alternative software?]
The main reason I want to switch to a full-time iPad user is because I spend a lot of time traveling around the world, and I want to reduce everything I own to fit into a 40lt hand luggage rucksack. My only concern is that, by the time I have paid for the iPad Pro and all the accessories that come with it, wouldn't it just make sense to by one of the new laptops instead? Especially considering the kind of work that I use it for
I 100% agree. You are basically paying a premium for touch, which arguably useful. For example, students can type faster than they write.
I've been shopping laptops but now I'm really interested in trying this. What's it like working on It Excel spreadsheets? I need to be able to do my business financials on the go, and I have an Office 365 subscription.
I can use my iPad for everything apart from updating my website. Also like you say, the filing system can be confusing. I use my mac for these types of things, but 90% of the time my mac is un-used. Where’s your magic keyboard skin gone? Mine is arriving on Monday, can’t wait to put it on 😁
Thanks! The skin is on the case. I replaced it after the removal video. Which color did you order?
@@JerrySchulze went for the silver black wood from Xtreme skins, can't wait to no longer have magic case anxiety 🤣

Put it this way I have a DELL widows PC sitting as a paper weight while I use both my IPad and iPhone more!!!
I'm watching this with my ancient iPad 2nd GEN with a broken glass screen with no apps installed and only use Safari. I now need iPad Pro I hope to get it someday because I'm a consumer and creator too.
The iPad is and has always been a great companion device which is what Apple wants it to be. Can it get by as a main computer? For some but many people will surely need more. Students, a high demographic will need more in most cases. Either they need desktop software that isn't available or full featured Microsoft Office apps. My biggest question at a certain point is why would you want to "just get by" with an Ipad when the cost is equal to a large portion of Macs. You can get a MacBook Air and low end-mid range MacBook Pro for around the same price. It then becomes a feature to cost issue.
I’ve come across opportunities where I had to do a conference call with a certain platform, that’s only supported with a computer or laptop. I Wish I could somehow trick the platform, and disguise my iPad has a laptop. 😂
Hey. I just bought an Ipad pro however I was disappointed. Although its really nice and typing is amazing but the weight of both ipad and keyboard is alot. Also i pointer doesnt work on everything such as anydesk/remotely and sometimes things freezes. Also the safari doesnt support desktop versions which doesnt allow me to drag and drop in a webpage, im thinking of selling it now. Whats your advise and do you think i can find solutions to above? I wanted it to replace my macbook pro 2015
What about using ipad for making latex documents with Texmaker or any other app?
The only reason I didn't get this as a laptop is because
gaming
If you want a laptop just for work this is probably better than a laptop since it's much more portable, is faster and easier to sue than a macbook and probably will have better battery too
I like the idea of saving space not downloading an app for everything and just using the browser but what about having to log in every time? I have such a hard time remembering credentials for so many apps and sites already even with many apps keeping me logged in all the time. What’s the work around for using browser as much as possible? Is it possible and does anyone have a video on this?
So you can use Safari to save passwords, or a third party password manager like lastpass or onepass.
Moving to the iPad is adopting a new and great lifestyle
what are you moving from?
MacBook Pro 2018 15 inch
Very cool. Just like switching Mac to windows or vice versa, going to iPad takes some effort but can be fun.
Perhaps one of the biggest showstoppers for me in allowing iPad to replace a laptop ... is that fact that I can not get a Kerberos ticket to log onto a remote computer that requires that authentication method. Aside from that, much of the capability is fairly acceptable.
I think there is a way to do it through profiles but not a good solution.
For stuff like that Citrix workspace is a life saver. No vpn, no bs. And it is fully updated for mouse support. Works really well.
I’d like to use the iPad for everything but it doesn’t appear to support auto fill documents.
My work contains using Excel and PowerBI. This means I'm stuck with the Surface line or a laptop.
been waiting for the MacPad Pro forever
ha!
It's really great for everything, EXCEPT printing if you don't have a bluetooth printer.
But… the operations in Ipad Outlook are different from the laptop!! Eg., creating and editing folders are very different … have to unlearn and re-learn ! That is the frustration.
I’m looking for a large iPad with the speaker button like a laptop is there one?
the problem of iPad it doesn't support the tv mode just the videos ..
Well, the iPad is my “go to” device”. I still own the FIRST......version of the iPad Pro. Was just about to get the latest...but scrubbed that launch, realizing it is the 11 inch, not THE 12.9 as the one I have. Every real state square inch (or centimeter) of screen counts in my humble opinion. So I’d hope a newer iPad, with the a newer chip than the one issued with the recently released iPad Air (A14) is a must. So, I’d rather wait and perhaps see if Apple would release one with the much mentioned micro-led (?) lit screen. A keyboard and mouse are a MUST!!!!!. I am not a trackpad person. As much as I tried, to me it is not intuitive enough. I gotta have some movement feedback and the mouse does just that. I’d prefer a numeric pad but due to the size of the iPad/Keyboard combo, there is simply not enough space. The Reader Mode in Safari is a great invention, I just wish Safari could have an add blocker, but I’d be asking for Paradise. At the end of the day, the iPad does about 90% of what I need to do. I look forward for your next video. Danke!!!

I use Word on my computers and iPad and sync through OneDrive. I have not had any issues going between devices.
Can you have iTunes installed on the iPad and then transfer music from the iPad to the iPhone?
If you use iPad for word spreadsheet on the go and simple, work its fine. But you still need a laptop for other things. The iPad is a companion.
I use Safari more than I use apps on my iPad. I really enjoy iOS14
Yep, I do the same thing. I find it works better than apps a lot of times.
I certainly cannot speak for everyone, but for me the M1 12.9 IPad Pro with magic keyboard and pencil is more than enough power for me. I really prefer this setup, it feels more tactile and easier to interact with. I’ll never go back to a regular laptop ever again.
how much space ?
“Dog like experience”? “Mouse support”? I’m afraid you’re using terms I might be both, mishearing and don’t know anyway. Blowing stuff right by me.
It works as a computer for me 100%.
Very cool!
I am just a simple student who lives in mid east and I can't work productive becaues of my disorganized personality. So I need a Ipad to use as a notebook and I also use it for my hobbies. Can I play LoL and Steam games on Ipad.
Good watch. Total iPad guy here. Had been waiting for it for about 10 years (some schoolmates had mentioned a tablet around 2000s) when it first came out in 2010. Started using it for ‘productivity’ right away to prove people wrong (20/20 hindsight: THEY were right). The very definition of ( painful) workarounds. Turning point for iPad was 2018 (for laptops, probably this year M1). Now 90+% of time is iPad, 10-% laptop (basically new desktop). Not bc craziness, just for the sake of changing hardware. And we should all send a big fat cheque to the creator of Reader View. Web sites have not kept up with technology. Simply brutal to visit/read. So we don’t - except for gvt/banking/... Apple sites.
One of the things that frustrates me its that I dont find a protective case that can pair with magic keyboard

I've honestly come to prefer Numbers over Excel.
It works fine for basic excel but if you are creating dynamic sheets and pivot tables it probably won’t. This video focused mainly on home use but I get your point. For my work stuff I can remote in with Citrix and do what I need or if I need to get into a pc at home I like SplashTop.
Silk Road Mission I am sure everyone would prefer it but it just is not built to do the same things as excel.
Also outlook on the web has a lot more features.

No, unfortunately
hi, i appreciate this video, but can you tell me, which one do you prefer, 64gb or 256gb ipad for long term only computer? i don’t think i need a laptop for rn
Once you download a few apps and sync some media you will fill up quite a bit of 64gb. If this is your primary device I would go for 256.
How do you edit text files or format the USB stick?
3rd part app/ you can’t.
Does it run full version microsoft office and able to print with full features?
Not sure what full features mean but there are some limits on the office apps for iPad.
My main concern is how to work with and browsing through my files. Currently I am using a MacBook pro 13' as my main computer but with an Ipad in backup. trying to use the Ipad as backup for finding and working with my files is not as easy as on the MBP (just my opinion). IF Apple would change that, then I would be all in for the Ipad with a magic keyboard without a MBP. Also, I backup my MBP on my NAS and I haven't found a way to do this on the Ipad yet. So I would like to see that changed in the future too.
This may help... czcams.com/video/gOFdxJVOyhQ/video.html
Those who work with files and word excel stick to MacBook, you’ll regret changing to iPad

microsoft RDP and Citrix work extremely well with iPad and a trackpad/mouse. Other apps for Mac are not great and that is a limitation of the Mac. I found that Splashtop worked better than most.
