    Yes! It’s SO important to start with what you already own and move forward from there. Sustainability is less about what you buy but rather, the mindset you buy them with and the frequency of your purchases.

    This was such a great guide. So sensible. I’ve never heard anyone give this exact advice before. I will definitely give this a try. I need a refresh in my closet but I do not want to buy any fast fashion. If I buy anything new I must be a smart investment from a sustainable company. My current favorites are dresses that are sold color and comfortable.

    • @inspiroue
      @inspiroue  Před 4 lety +3

      Aw thank you so much!! Appreciate hearing this -- specific advice/steps is what we need! And yes dresses me too! I don't own too many but I just thrifted a black shirt dress that has helped me get through the heat wave -- so classy and perfect for errands too 💛

    Love this, Cynthia.
    I actually realized most of the clothes I own I don’t even like. Itching to throw out everything. More than half of my clothes were either a gift, hand-me-down or thrifted. I don’t buy clothes that often.
    I just find it harder to find clothes and shoes because I’m tall! So the thought of buying clothes just stressed me out. There aren’t a lot of dedicated stores or at least sections for tall women. And if there are, it’s either completely unstylish or it’s a brand I don’t necessarily want to support. And that is why I end up holding on to clothes longer than I want.

    • @inspiroue
      @inspiroue  Před 4 lety +3

      Thank you!! Appreciate you so much! And ya it's a crazy realization when you get to it - I can't imagine how frustrating it is to shop for clothes for your height (hope more brands accommodate this!!). I'll keep an eye out for brands that do x

      As another tall person, I definitely feel that! My mom also has a bad habit of buying any pair of pants she sees that she thinks look long enough, even if it's 100% not something I'd wear. I've been able to find some pairs of jeans on ThredUp though since you can search for taller clothes, and also I've heard that SeamsFriendly is really great! They were recommended by the CZcamsr Shelbizlee, and right now you can actually do custom sizing for free! I checked them out and they have a lot of really cool stuff and it's less expensive than some other sustainable brands I've seen.

    I just stumbled across your channel today and am so happy to have found a minimalist/sustainable CZcamsr who is really doing their research and taking everything into consideration before purchasing from a brand (not to mention you also don't seem to support overconsumption and buying brand new clothes when you need them which is so rare these days). I watched your "brands I no longer support" video as well as your Everlane video and am appaled by what these brands are doing and how they are hiding it- at this point they seem not-so-different from fast fashion brands I've been avoiding.
    I actually ordered my first shirt from everlane recently after wanting for so long to purchase something from them (because of their claims to sustainability, low pricing for organic and high-quality pieces, and mainly from recommendations from the CZcamsr Dearly Bethany), however, I can tell you I will not be making another purchase from them again!
    As a transitioning minimalist, long-time environmentalist, and lover of all things fashion, I wanted to thank you for sharing your passion and research in this field! It is truly appreciated!
    P.S. Love Love Love this vid! I’m super excited to try out this process in my closet. It’s clearly well-thought-out and very unique in comparison to every other Fashion CZcamsr’s’ video I’ve seen on the topic!:)

      thank you so so much for your kind words and support, I really appreciate it x
      and yup I've been following ex.wives.club on IG since that everlane video and they still haven't changed for the better at all -- I don't think I'll be supporting them in the future based on their actions so far
      and yay so happy to hear this video was helpful!! 💛

    This video is a very valuable resource for those of us who ascribe to a more curated, sustainable wardrobe, but who are still in the midst of discovering what works and what doesn't. As I was going through this video I was writing down my answers to the questions posed, and it really helped me to identify which pieces serve as my wardrobe workhorses and which items I can stand to avoid purchasing going forward. Thanks for the great, informative content! :)

    My favorite pieces are a lot like yours - which is why I love your channel so much. I love button up shirts, high waisted bottoms - tapered jeans and trousers and wide leg culottes, oversized graphic tees and fitted high neck/racerback tanks. When I want to feel really comfortable, I gravitate towards long flowy dresses and midi skirts.

    • @inspiroue
      @inspiroue  Před 4 lety +1

      Aw music to my ears gal thank you!! Ou yes love a wide leg culotte too!! I'm still looking for a good fitted racerback tank - still trying to find a cut that's flattering on me! And omg yes long flowy dresses are so comfy I've been missing out haha x

    I feel i have had a sustainable wardrobe before it was even a thing. I have been thrifting since I was 13 and I’m now almost 49. At least 95 percent of my wardrobe is thrifted even shoes with the exception of socks and underwear.

    • @inspiroue

    I love how you are able to put into words my thought processes when thinking about clothes. When I shop, even if i find something that is okay, I won't buy it often because it doesn't give me that "on top of the world" feeling and I try to explain that to others but I can never get that point across. Some of my "on top of the world" pieces include silver hoop earrings, black suede platforms, and this really cool retro button up with a sick pattern on it.

    • @inspiroue
      @inspiroue  Před 4 lety

      That 'top of the world' feeling is so hard to explain haha I feel like the people who get it and are tuned into conscious consumption ~get it~ and the ones that don't, won't get it? Hopefully with time. And omg yes love a good retro button up and suede platforms!!!! x

    I have a Don’t Buy List on my phone, for things that haven’t worked out for me in the past, this has helped me a lot. (I also have a Do Buy list for things I really need). The No Buy list is very personal and individual, for me it includes: 3/4 length sleeves, dark-background patterns, non-elastic waistbands, low-cut armholes, colors that are too strong, etc. I always review each possible purchase against this list, my color palette, and of course, no synthetic fibers is a given for me, aside from the environmental concerns, I just can’t stand them. That said, I still buy too much and have a long way to go in terms of wardrobe sustainability. I got weak last winter, when for the first time in 20 years, after menopause was mostly over, I found I needed sweaters, I got some acrylic ones. They are so itchy I can’t stand them, live and learn.

    I have started using your closet app so I know exactly what I have as I have definitely fallen into the trap of buying the same things over and over! I also like to save outfits I like so if I ever have one of those days where I feel I have nothing to wear instead of feeling the urge to shop, I'll just put together an oufit that I know makes me feel great.

    At age 61, I finally decided to stop buying jeans and shorts to keep up with everyone. They are so uncomfortable, so difficult to find a good fit in, and I almost never wear the ones I have. All my new pants are soft and stretchy or loose and flowy, with elastic waists, mostly in linen. These I do wear, and have plenty of, as I mostly wear skirts and dresses. Trying to conform to fashion has been so bad for my wallet and the environment.

    This video was awesome! Thank you so much for all the tips. By making the piles I figured out that the pieces that I love are pastel and earthy toned, and I have a lot of dark clothes. I realized that I wish I had brighter items, so I will look for those in the future. I also had the same problem with pants, I've never had jeans or dress pants that fit me well and make me feel amazing, so thanks for your guidance.
