@@officialsportica I think in order to be considered a choker, you have to lose a game you really should have won. I don't think New Zealand has ever consistently lost games they should have won so they aren't chokers.

@@the90skid79 that's horrible logic. NZ has consistently punched above their weight class, and citing 1 game that they tied in as a reason for choking is plain stupid. England were the favorites going into the final btw, so if England lost that would've been a choke on their part. NZ also was the 4th seed from the group stage, being lucky to make it to the knockouts, and were huge underdogs against india, they literally were predicted to have a 22% chance of winning even after taking the first 3 wickets.
Whats more sad and heartbreaking is that they nearly won the 2019 but lost because of pathetic rules
To add more fuel to the fire this all happened because of a wrong decision which was allowed to happen because the rules prevented them from making the right one

You forgot to mention that six runs given by the umpire when ben stokes mistakenly hit the ball while running and it went for a boundary was a wrong decision it should have been 5 runs and ben stokes wouldnt have gotten strike which would have led to a very different outcome of the match. They actually are the real winners of 2019 world cup but the system failed them.

Kane Williamson was one such captain who never had luck, he had to steamroll his way through victory in ICC Tournament Matches.
Chris Cairns was such an amazing player, literally pulled off an impossible clutch (chasing 270 something already 5 down and almost 150 runs needed)
Stephen Fleming changed the NZ's fortunes and so did the legends Baz, Crowe, Hadlee, Taylor, Vettori, Guptill, Elliott, Watling and Shane Bond. Now Williamson, Conway, Latham, Boult, Southee, Henry, Santner, Ferguson, Neesham, Nicholls, Rachin, Daryl and Wagner are carrying the legacy of a great all round team!

You could say that NZ actually has some luck - thanks to Australia's slow run rate in the 2019-2021 World Cup, they reached the final and then won it!! But who can't forget that extremely stupid shot by Brendon McCullum in the 2015 world cup opening over, when he was bowled by Starc. Bazball is great when it pays off and idiotic when it fails. I think you make your luck and take your opportunities - or not.

Both SA and NZ are extremely unlucky. 1999 should have been the year SA won their first world cup and 20 years later 2019 should have been the year NZ should have lifted their first world cup. They were denied by completely outlandish rules.
The most unlucky teams are the ones like Ireland, Zimbabwe, Scotland etc who put up solid performances and continue to be excluded from World Cups. These countries like NZ SA India are fine

Calling New Zealand a choker is blatantly wrong. They finish in top 4 consistently in ICC event for more than a decade. They were serious contenders in 2015 and 2019 WCs. They punch above their weight class given that they are one of the poorest cricket board among the test playing nations.
