I love her!! Another example of someone in the public eye, who can speak out about family dynamics and mental illness. I don't think there is a human alive who is completely 'together'.

Ruby, don't suppose you will ever read this, but my life and parents are so similar to you and yours. I didn't use that chemical to drive me forward though. Currently in counselling and starting to understand as 40 looms near. Your work on mental health is very admirable, well done for highlighting. Thank you for what you said here about mother's being sensitive in asking the question, I have worried about the cycle continuing with my son's, thank mother nature I didn't have girls!!

Ruby the Universe was showing off when you were made.
My Parents survived Auschwitz and my Mummy would take to bed for three days every couple of months.
Mummy always left a card on my bedside table 48 hours before her confinement to bed.
We always piled on the bed and Mummy would read us ghost stories.

Joshua Taylor I think she's talking about cortisol. It's a neurotransmitter. A chemical which passes messages around the brain. When the levels are off, the brain reacts.
There are several neurotransmitters responsible, in part for mood: serotonin, dopamine, cortisol.
These chemicals cannot be bought or ingested. There are medications to increase the levels. Most anti depressants are SSRIs; selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. These increase the levels of serotonin at the synapse and effectively increase levels to attempt to alleviate depression and other mood disorders.
