  • The Matsumoto Castle Gun Corps is lucky to have access to a wide variety of samurai era firearms. Like with modern weapon systems, these guns can be broken down into different categories depending on their size, or battlefield role.
    Let’s take a closer look at some of the teppo that the team have been using during the 2022 season…

    So the zamazutsu was Japan's equivalent of the Afghan (?) jezail or the American longrifle, just smoothbore?

    • @Gun_Samurai

      Assuming those are also long barrelled and usually operated from a prepared position; then yes 🙇‍♂️

      @@Gun_Samurai Well a longrifle was never so big that it needed two people and a rest to shoot, so nevermind that. But jezails could be either single-person or long enough to need two people; some got nearly twelve feet long. They were very accurate and great for mountain fighting.

    Nice layout of the Information, I'm more informed on the many variations of Japanese matchlocks.
    Btw, did the Gun corps had collection of Boshin era firearms as well?

    That first musket...I did a conversion, that caliber is HUGE! That is about .90! Almost an inch bore! Also the zamazutsu remind me of fowling pieces combined with wallguns, however the wallgun is similar more with the ozutsu. XD Being that both had the huge caliber factor, but have the length barrel, HOWEVER, some older wallguns were like the zamazutsu where they were ridiculously long, longer than what you have.
    The personal arms of the Samurai remind me of the upper class fowlers that nobles would spend much on and were total artwork.
    The banzutsu are so short, that is quite a striking feature, quite handy for sure but look like carbines rather than infantry arms, the personal arms of the Samurai look closer to the muskets I would know.

    I have always had a quiet respect for Japan. Ever since I was young I have wanted to go there. I like how liberal they are today, but also highly strict too but in a good way. They are very similar to Norway in their politics if you ask me, as in they have anti discrimination laws that many of their neighbours don't have. I've been to Norway a few times and it was awesome, but I really want to go to Japan. I just love their culture and people. If I could be anything other then English, I would choose to be Japanese!

    Those flags they wear on there back seem cumbersome for battle, or was this just a ceremonial thing?

    • @Gun_Samurai
      @Gun_Samurai  Před rokem +7

      They were actually used in battle. They allowed commanders to see where there units were; whether they were moving forward/backward and where to dispatch messengers to… of course they also allowed the enemy commanders to see them too 🙇‍♂️

    The horse gunner is combination of Calvary and gunner horse right so when they run off ammo in middle of fight they can use their sword to keal the enemy? And what their gun compare to modern age, a pistol or carbine?

    • @Gun_Samurai
      @Gun_Samurai  Před 9 měsíci +1

      It makes them more maneuverable as well, so they can be repositioned during battle or exploit breakthroughs and maintain pace with other mounted samurai🙇‍♂️

    • @Gun_Samurai
      @Gun_Samurai  Před 9 měsíci +1

      The carbines they used were single shot and slow to reload; but it was the best military technology available at that time.

    • @leonaluceid2388
      @leonaluceid2388 Před 9 měsíci

      So the best strategy is hit (or shoot) and run then back reload and do it again, and repeat? To Harras the enemy.
      Well I know Calvary is very expensive because we need train the people and the horse. But have you or somebody in your dojo/area do practice as horse gunner?

      Guns were so effective, that they changed the way battles were fought in feudal Japan; making previous strategies almost obsolete 🙇‍♂️

      「名誉あるサムライ」というイメージは、もっと後の時代に作られました。
      動画の鉄砲隊は、戦国時代という内戦の最も激しい戦争時代のものです。
      その頃のサムライは、純然な職業軍人です。名誉やコードより勝利と生き残ることが規範です。
      その後の時代、徳川家康(ショーグンのトラナガのモデル)の統治時代は、侍にも厳格な武装制限がありました。サムライが所有出来る武器は刀と槍などの手持ち武器だけです。より強力な火器は、厳格に管理されていました。
      サムライは官僚化されて、高度なモラルと自己統制が義務化されました。
      (名誉あるサムライ)というイメージは、その頃の平和な時代のサムライが起源となっています。
