This song is probably the best display of Plini's genius overall. It is so complete, so right. And gives away almost all his influences. Fantastic.
"Electric Sunrise" is a must in my opinion, although "Selenium Forest" is also hella smooth.
Selenium Forest is my favorite and also the only song that puts my son to sleep đ€Ł
Agreed!
all of the entire Handmade Cities album is so good, and there are countless others that are amazing
Plini is the modern Van Halen IMO. And the most humble and kind dude. Absolutely wonderful. Fun fact he actually went to school to be an architect. Probably why hes so good at âbuildingâ a song and album.
Plini is more like modern Guthrie Govan
This song and Pastures are probably my favorite songs by Plini.
Pastures = the best slow burn ever
I just downloaded the album... I agree. This is a great track, as well as Pastures.
@@christopherhorton4634 Pasture solo is a mind blowing
I think my favourites might be between this, selenium forest or away. That one Stephen taranto solo hits my soul. Shout out to his early duo project with sithu aye, some fantastic songs on that one.
Oh man Pastures is incredible. I saw Plini a year or so ago in Atlanta and this one fucking guy kept yelling "PLEASE PLAY PASTURES PLEASE PLINI" and they never played it lol like I totally get why you it wouldn't be in the live setting priority but it would have been so good
"Selenium Forest", "Every Piece Matters" ... Plini has plently of great songs.
Every Piece Matters & Electric Sunrise off of Handmade Cities and then I'll Tell You Someday off his latest are three of the first ones people should check out.
"Paper Moon", "Tarred and Feathered"
@@TwoandaHater "Electric Sunrise" - such an aptly named song.
The whole Sunhead EP is top quality!
Selenium forest is by far my favourite instrumental song, so many emotions in intrumental piece.
The synth arpeggiations you are talking about that start at 13:30 aren't actually a synth but a tapped part on the bass which you can see in Simon Groves playthrough of the song on CZcams. Highly recommend the whole playthrough as it really shines a light on some really interesting details in the song. Loving all the reactions and your approach to the music!
This album was the soundtrack of my life in 2016 and 2017. I saw him live with Intervals and Animals As Leaders on that tour. Iâve never seen more guitar wizardry at one show haha. Great analysis my manđžđ€
Pretty sure I was at the Sydney show for that tour! It was awesome.
For all people stumbling upon his music. The songs that brought tears to my eyes were; Inhale, Pastures, Pan, Paper Moon.
All of his music hits me emotionally in ways I've never had in other music but those songs I listed, are songs that can reduce me to tears. Beautiful music.
Also check out Intervals - The Way Forward (album) if you want some upbeat happy prog with Plini on rhythm guitar.
Love the reaction. Plini is my favourite artist of all time and I listen to him every day and an yet to get sick if it.
Another great band you could check out is Intervals...their song Fable is awesome and even has a sax solo!
Intervals is one of my favorites also, highly recommend.
Top 2 instrumental composers atm in my opinion đ also jakub zytecki
Yeah me too
+1000 for Intervals
Plini is one of the most amazing and talented guitarists and an extremely nice and humble person. He never gets mad and has never been mad ever in his life and it shows in his music it is so upbeat and positive
Do check out the podcast which features Plini and Devin on The Void with Christina channel
Has never been mad in his life lol. He is a very positive person though from what I can tell.
Also he looks like Ted from How I Met Your Mother xP
Watch him get mad if you take away his Strandberg ;0
Plini is and may very well always be one of my absolute very favorite artists to see live. Favorite show was probably a small gig he did for Strandberg at NAMM in the side stage of the House of Blues, where at the end of the set Electric Sunrise turned into a 15-minute, 4 guitarist solo medley with some of the special guests (including Per Nilsson of Meshuggah!!) that were out for the convention. Pure magic. Also the bassist that tours with Plini is an absolute monster and I wish he had more recognition.
Simon Grove is a beast. Great mixing & production content on his Instagram too.
I can def second this on his shows being amazing. I did a masterclass ticket when him and Mestis (Javier Reyes) came to town - absolutely amazing time. They did the same thing with Electric Sunrise as well - turned into a huge shredfest between Plini, Jake, and Javier.
Yeah, i was there for that exact same performance. The guy is an absolute joy to watch!!!
React to between the buried and me- extremophile elite
Plini opened for btbam when I saw them in Germany
I second this.
Also I wish he did album reacts because I just love Coma Ecliptic as a whole.
Yeah I third this. Pretty crazy no BTBAM yet on the channel.
czcams.com/video/dM8WjgRA6o8/video.html
Yes, and do the live one.
Extremophile is great. But real talk, Voice of Trespass. Voice is just đ
His solo in "Pastures" is one of the greatest things to ever grace my ears.
I highly recommend listening to Who Bit The Moon by David Maxim Micic. I think it's a true masterpiece and i'd love to see your analysis.
Anything by David Maxim Micic is amazing. He is one of my favorites.
My favorite from that album though is Damar.
Sick song
I prefer his BILO 3.0 album. "Nostalgia" is a nice instrumental, but the entire album is gold.
Also one of my favorites.
Mbinguni Amina is an incredibly diverse song with tonnes of musical elements and dynamics and would be amazing to see a composer/engineer react to.
One of the reasons why I love plini so much is because of his complex arrangements and usage of repeating motifs, even over MULTIPLE albums and eps. Thereâs something Iâd call âThe Plini Riffâ (a 5 note riff, if you know it you know) that heâs used over all his music, and itâs just incredible how heâs established his sound so much as an instrumental guitarist.
Are you talking about the motif at 14:11? I absolutely love how he incorporates throughout his music
@@Castanochris69 i am! Such a pretty motif
âSweet Nothingsâ is one of his best works. Have the special edition Vinyl đ
I just wish it was a bit longer. So many cool ideas, dynamic guitar work, god-tier phrasing, and one of the most absurd guitar solos Iâve ever heard (Stephen Taranto on âAwayâ). BRB going to relisten to it for the 100th time.
This whole album is amazing to me, cascade is easily one of my favourite pieces of music, but I always lean toward "Handmade Cities" as my favourite Plini track and "Electric Sunrise" is just behind. They might be worth checking out if you haven't already. Plini - Kind is also absolutely masterful.
If you're looking for something new, Their Dogs Were Astronauts - Contortionist
Loving the double/triple daily uploads :)
Nice to see Their Dogs were Astronauts getting some love.
You should check out Pan by him, killer track
Pan is real experience. Putting headphones and entering the new universe
Pan is easily in his top 3 songs......just so freaking good.
@@ressbill Iâm Matto, from the future. Thereâs a new version of Pan online now.
Plini worked with the AMAZING drummer Troy Wright for this album and his drumming truly complete Plini's playing/composing.
Before your first stop I love how the tight guitar "talks" while the airy backing makes it feel like it's inside of a vast space.
Gotta love plini.
Btw the bass player,Simon Grove is an Audio Engineer & he records & mixes everything, he's an absolute monster on bass.
So many good Plini songs. Idk what to recommend because all of his work is so wonderful.
Yes!! Cascade is my favourite Plini's piece. I am aware he has more advanced, intricate compositions but this one just has such a great energy and groove. It's also on my list of songs I use for testing whenever approaching new headphones/earphones.
If you like instrumental/progressive stuff one of the bands you might enjoy could be Scale The Summit. Compositions of this band aren't that syncopated, more like clean/smooth melodies, but still kick ass! I have weakness for both The Collective and The Migration (albums), songs such as "Odyssey".
Scale the Summit is great. Also check out Distant Dream, Wydek, Wide Eyes, Voices from the Fuselage, TesseracT, Modern Day Babylon, Divinex, etc.
I canât like this video enough times! You pulled me in with your Coheed and Cambria reactions (my favorite band) but to see you do Plini and Animals as leaders has been so much fun. Glad you are enjoying the music and Iâm enjoying the reactions just as much. Thanks for the great videos!
Also: If youâd be interested, âPaper Moonâ by Plini is one heck of an experience.
This track is completely epic. Simultaneously face melting and beautiful.
3:46 am here in Costa Rica... And hell yeah. I'm here for other reaction đ„đ€đ»đ¶
Heck yeah I'm watching this in the same time zone but I'm in Nebraska in the US. I've also heard this song many times before. I love Plini.
Every time i watch these videos of music i already know, i always re listen and enjoy the music even more! Where has this guy been. Thanks so much for your uploads
So glad to see you do more Plini. Awesome. So stoked with how many great Australian artists you are giving time to explore.
I've commented this before but I really want to see you review Jakob zyteki's latest record he released last year - nothing lasts, nothing lost. Its a masterpiece. He took polyphias pinch harmonic style to a whole new place, absolutey majestic. That and David maxim micics bilo 3, or eco, or who bit the moon. David is an absolute genius of composition.
I have other suggestions, but these two are on my list of the two greatest composers I have had the priveledge of experiencing in my lifetime.
Keep up the great work mate, love your videos!
I absolutely love this song. My favourite of his, for sure. Can't get enough of it.
Heya man, love these reactions! Just FYI, that âsynthedâarpeggiation you mentioned isnât a synth. Thatâs Simon Grove on bass doing a tapping run on bass. Sick stuff!
You should hear David Maxim Micic! Heâs one of my favorite modern prog metal guys. Good songs: Mbinguni Amina, Where Is Now?, Nostalgia, Devise, Who Bit the Moon
I cannot express how happy I am looking at you reacting to one of the songs that make cry of happiness every time I listen to it! This album is a complete masterpiece, would love if you do more from it. Keep it up Geebz!!! đ
A killer arrangement across every instrument. Pliniâs bass player (Simon Grove) is a beast, so good yet knows when to hold back. He is also Pliniâs sound engineer on most, if not all of his recordings and gets such beautiful separation. Pliniâs latest album âImpulse Voicesâ is a sonic masterpiece, multi genre and Simon Grove has gone next level with the engineering and mix.
This is seriously one of the greatest songs in history.
Yes! You released a plini video on my birthday! Thank you
Plini throwing out the homage to John Petrucci's rock discipline at the start of the track.
That's from the first warmup exercise. .
DUDE ARE YOU SERIOUS
Kinda blowing my mind right now I gotta go check this out like I used to KILL rock discipline when I was like a teenager. how did I not notice?!
As a musician I love the way you deconstruct and explain things in a way that non musicians can understand! The toned arpeggios toward the end of the track are from the bass player Simon; he's a monster. Keep up the good work my man!
Also, the melody at around 14:00 is a motif that's used in an earlier track on the album called Handmade Cities (the second track) at around the :38 second mark! Enjoy!
Another fantastically insightful reaction, love these!
Yessss, this song is so good. Even better live! You should definitely check out sea in the sky! The song everything all at once is excellent!
Persefone is a really underrated band... I'd sugest to start with their instrumental "Consciousness part 1 & 2"
My favourite track of all time!
Great band worthy of a reaction! Since the vocalists are on it, and it has a video, AND it shows some cool production stuff, AND it features Paul Masvidal I'd highly suggest starting with "Living Waves"!
czcams.com/video/epxkiTxoHrw/video.html
That's the ONE!
I feel like Plini is a mix of Petrucci and Metheny. Absolutely charming guitar playing.
I love your decomposing. It makes me listen things Iâve never listened before on songs that I already know!
Seeing him crush these songs live was insane.
Sithu Aye is another amazing guitarist/composer that has a similar way of composing but adds different textures and colors to his music. It would be nice listening to you decomposing it. Good job deconstructing Plini.đđŸđđœ
Agree. He did a song work Plini as well
Great choice! Thanks Geebz :)
The arpeggios you heard at the end are bass parts, the bass player plays with (in) hammer-ons and tapping.
Absolutely one of my favorite songs đ
Awesome never heard of pilini untill i saw your first reaction to his music. Keep up the good work.
Plini is my favorite. So inspiring. â€ïžđ„
Oh good choice of track!! My personal favourite of Plinis .... masterful
Hey man, from a standpoint of a guitarist: I recommend watching Plini and Aaron (Intervals) playing it live at NAMM(Plintervals). I guess it was in 2017. Might help you absorb more of it. Greetings from Brazil! o/ Love your channel!
This guys analysis is so good
for me story telling is the best description for plini's music. The best
Plini has matured incredibly as a composer & musician since this album, and it shows on Impulse Voices. Highly highly recommend you listen to any song on that album- itâd be great to hear your thoughts!
Great vidéo as always! If you plan to continue with the TOOL serie, i would love to see you décompose INVINCIBLE. This one really give me the chicken skin ^^.
I think The Omnific would be a good option to react, song I recommend: Khimaira
Glad to see you reacting to so many great Australian bands
Wow. What an awesome track!
Would be a dream come true if you done "ALCEST - Protection" much love from Scotland
Yes man!! Alcest, Agalloch, Lantlos, anything in that vein would be so good
@@wstone2010 I see you are a man of culture also :D really hope is still does any of these
I would love to see you react to some Caligula's Horse songs. They're super good
I'll keep doing this ^^ "The Faceless - Autotheist Movement 1-3" you won't regret listening to it!
Didn't know this guys, it was a fun ride through modern prog, really nice.
Yes, Autotheist Movements 1-3 are incredible.
czcams.com/video/HN4Fv39Zm9g/video.html
You found Plini!!! Rock 'n Roll!!
Geebz, you gotta keep submerging yourself into more of Plini's dynamic journeys. More wonderful rides awaiting for you. Trust me. Please try some of the PPP at least. And by that I mean either: 'Paper Moon', 'Pan' or 'Pastures'.
PLINI FTW đ„ đžđ€đŒ Awwwwwrighhht đ€đŒ
bass player is the engineer! absolute legend (simon grove)
A big recommendation for Oblivion by Mastodon. The whole album Crack The Skye is fantastic!!
You get another vibe when they play it live
I strongly suggest listening to 'Rube Goldberg Variations" by Thank You Scientist. You'll love it.
đ· đ» đș đ€đŒ Amazing!
Soen - The Words, I have nothing else to say but keep up the good work.
Fun fact, drummer previously played in Opeth! Also, "Lucidity" is a great introduction for those who like calm Pink Floydy vibes!
czcams.com/video/FRH9ADDqLIM/video.html
I personally think lotus is their best song to date, but yeah, those two are really something
Intervals is another great band to check out with this same sort of prog/vibey style instrumental music. The main composer Aaron Marshall is also just an amazing musician and he has such a unique style. Him and Plini have toured together quite a bit and they are awesome people!
Amen
Glad someone suggested this. My favorite off that album.
Nice, didnt know you did this one. My favorite by Plini. Your last vid of his I watched while decorating my Xmas tree last year ^_^ I still wanna request TAUK ~ "Mindshift" is probably a good starting point
I've listened to this album so many times. Really good!
Intervals - 5-HTP or any song you will seriously love it
13:55 "I don't know if I can believe this melody, Plini, but you intrigue me"
14:50 "Ha, good joke sir! you ended how you began"
I've been loving your reactions and decomposing. Hoping you get to see the kids again soon. Here's some songs I'd enjoy hearing your thoughts on:
Something soft proggy: Artificial Language - There's No Bottom To This
Something heavy proggy: Within the Ruins - Resurgence
Something fun: Babymetal - Megitsune
..sit..
..another OUTSTANDING breakdown..
..this dude, knows his stuff..
Hope you've seen some of the comments on other videos and plan to do Aviations - Outliers (retrospect). Think you'd be blown away and its a hidden gem in need of as big an audience as possible. Keep up the great work!
Troy Wright is great on the studio drums. Plini is one of my favourite band right now. Can you react to Death - symbolic, flesh and the power it holds
Love to open CZcams and see this right at the top ready to go.
Damn dude your listening to all my favorite songs. I dont even know what song to suggest because you will eventually do them all lmao. Well plz do more of porcupine tree/steven wilson!
Plini is one of my fave modem players. Like a mix of Holdsworth and Petrucci. Two legends. He is amazing the way he LAYERS all his sounds to become a vast expansive sound. No fillers on his cds all great. Another amazing player to check out is Andy James. If you like Satriani and Petrucci think tha kind of mixture. Killer chops/speed. Full range tones and zero filler songs every one is fantastic or EPIC.
First off, I absolutely adore Plini, and I was stoked to see them on here. But! I would kill to see you react to "Shadow of Intent - The Heretic Prevails", since I loved your Rivers of Nihil reaction.
Good morn deComposer! As a musician who loves tearing apart instrumentals the way you do has brought me joy seeing you check out my favorite bands as a young man. Seeing how much you enjoyed Plini makes me want to tell you to checkout a man called; Sithu Aye
He has a 6 part arrangement of songs on his album "Set Course For Andromeda"
Please check out "Pt. I: A Single Step" and if you enjoy it go on and finish the arrangement.
Those all together would be too long for a video so maybe just for you to enjoy while you're on your own! Thanks again for the videos and keep up the amazing work.
Discovered this band a few days ago and I love them. Very complicated music which I like; big fan of Gentle Giant.
YES, thanks for doing this one! One of my favorites! The older Plini's music, the more you'll find the more metal-oriented stuff, from what I've seen anyway. PLEASE react to "Selenium Forest," should you ever return to Plini's music!
Heading to work in New York checking out a new video! Aloha
Two great recommendations:
Leprous - At The Bottom
Dir En Grey - Vinushka
You've been doing amazing so far since you started this journey! Keep u pthe great work!
PLEASE do SLEEP TOKEN! "The Offering", "Nazareth", and "Jaws" are fantastic tracks!
The more people that learn of Sleep Token, the happier I am. They're fantastic!
backed 100%
THIS ONE
Sleep Token speaks to me
Man, you should do some surfing vids too. Your proximity to the surf is enviable, to say the least :D
I would love to see a reaction to any of Heilungs live performances. Thanks for the great content!
Staring at my vinyl of this record that I very recently was able to acquire. this album has been a definite friend to me for the past 2 - 3 years since I discovered it.
I was lucky enough to have my first exposure of Plini be at a live show, where Plini opened for Tesseract. So amazing!!
Love your deconstruction videos, especially on all these prog artists people have been recommending! Very easy to digest! Iâd love to hear your thoughts on David Maxim Micic, especially about his ideas for composition and dynamic. Maybe Along for a Ride for his heavier stuff, or Someone Elseâs Hat on the lighter side?
Another great video my guy.
I suggest Sithu Aye - Time to Decide. Very talented musician with complicated arrangements in the same vain as Plini. I'd love to hear you breakdown. (really just any song by him. I found Plini through Spotify radio listening to Sithu Aye)
Hmm, Iâve never heard this guy before, pretty impressive instrumental music thatâs for sure. Thanks for introducing me to him. :)
If you ever do get around to any of my suggestions the one Iâd probably like to see you do the most is Ron Jarzombekâs new single âWe Have Controlled the Federation.â Itâs instrumental like Plini and heâs a guitar virtuosoâs virtuoso.
Solo has shades of Allan Holdsworth on this I feel. Plini is really great, superb everything: composing, arranging, engineering, playing....
Hey man, love the vids. Plini's new album is so good, would love to get your thoughts on the song Pan and how he makes a saxophone work on a metal track.
Not something I'd have listened to myself, but still pretty cool! It always amazes me the talent some of these guitar players have, I don't know how they go so quickly and have such precision.
On another note: I'd love if you did one of your teaching series videos on what sort of things you're listening for when you're hearing a track for the first time. You enlighten us into some of it, but I'd be curious to learn more depth into what your ear's trained to pick up on as a composer. (Also thanks for teaching us to be more active/better listeners to the songs we already love!)
If you listen to the first 3 Plini EPs in order you get a huge story told through sound; it's an incredible journey.
Selenium Forest > Sweet Nothings > The End of Everything
Added note: if you like this style, definitely check out David Maxim Micic - really great composition and mixing. Satellite or Daydreamers are good starting songs.
More Australian stuff! woohoo
