The amber icon shown for the Fog Light is actually for the Rear Fog Light, not the fronts. Front fog lights are represented by a green icon flipped the other way.
This is excellent content I'm glad to see - but even more could be done. My Subaru's owner's manual does a poor/confusing job of explaining the messages I can get on my dashboard display screen (the dot-matrix computer display, not just simple color idiot lights). The cheaper 2017 Forester models it clearly says have Low Oil Level and Low Washer Fluid level warnings, but the content about the dash of my fancy "Touring" model is ambiguously described. Plus the car makes an occasional "chime" noise only on long trips, with no light or text warning, that I still have not figured out after 3 years.
I've seen most of these before.. and the standard is quite good. Yellow lights are a 'caution' (ABS, Airbags, Traction Control) saying "Something is wrong with this system, but the car will still drive". Red lights you should never ignore, red indicates a critical problem (Low oil pressure, overheating, critical control computer failure)... But I'd never seen the green "foot on the pedal" light before..I assume it's mostly an American thing.. Never seen it in Europe or Oceania.
Additionally... any light in red or flashing red needs immediate attention. Pull over as soon as you can SAFELY and call for roadside assistance. Any light in amber or orange needs your attention but car can still be driven in the meantime. This is a general rule only.... read the owners manual. Stay safe folks!
For goodness's sake people, a car is only the second biggest purchase most will ever make. READ YOUR OWNER'S MANUAL!!
Great video, Jenn you are always practical and informative in a concise manner. Thank you.😊
With future "apple watches" and other brands, we may see more of these type of symbols for our own bodies. I think my 2019 Hyundai has both the "idiot lights" and a console with the words for some of these warnings. For example, I was testing my Active LKA (Lane Keep Assist) on an empty road and the dash panel flashes "Keep Hands on Steering Wheel" as the car steers itself. I loved that!
My ABS light would occasionally come on when driving through wet snow. I think that the snow got lodged somewhere an caused a sensor to malfunction. A car wash always fixed the problem.
The solution is to get an OBD II dongle that tells exactly what is wrong. There is no way of telling whether a check engine light means you need to get it fixed right away or whether it can wait without one.
I noticed when I lived in Atlanta, almost everyone used their fog lights all the time. Now I know, some people want to use everything on the car, but finally decided this: if your fogs are on, the guy ahead of you knows you're not police and will go faster.
My check engine light has been on for 4 years now.
I knew Jen would say, "Get it checked instantly!" but I've always heard it's emissions related, so, not an emergency. Also, it's yellow, not red.
What does the blue light mean when I turn on my headlights?

Thank you!!! I had two lights pop up a couple of days ago. I thought it was oil but just learned it's my tire. Oops. Thank you for this video
I am in the video
Hey people of the world, there's this thing call an owners manual, can usually be found in the glove box. How about you read it, it will tell you all about these lights and what they mean. Don't be lazy read!!
I’ve only ever seen the shift interlock light in Volkswagens and I think it is the most useless thing ever. More people do the dual action shift process with knowing what the light is than not.
Also, in a manual car, you would depress the clutch, no?
Well people don’t read the handbook
Moral of this story: These cutesy icons are perfectly clear, if you're an automotive engineer.
There is no need to open owners manual. All cars have almost the same symbols. BTW... majority is skipped.
I feel that the tire pressure light is a horrible design. Most people that don’t know cars have no idea what that light is because it looks nothing like a flat tire
None of these people should have a driver's license if they don't know these warning lights. It puts them and others at risk.
Here is an ideal...Go back to just plain old words like “Check Engine!” The confusion would be eliminated.
OMG. CR is WRONG?!! Fog lights... omg... I'm unsubscribing.
Check engine light total BS!
