Tyler, The Creator is never afraid to give flowers to those he admires. Those who caught Pharrell’s Something In The Water festival last week witnessed just that when he crowned the N.E.R.D legend “the greatest of all time,” and Kendrick Lamar is another artist Tyler holds in high regard.
During his second “All Star Series” conversation with Converse that was recently held in Paris, Tyler spoke about the importance of being honest and having the courage to openly show one’s emotions, which led him to talking about Kendrick’s latest album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.

“I make music that electrify them, you make music that pacify them.”
Tyler is spot tf on. you see the generational divide between the old heads saying this generation is too sensitive vs. the upcoming generation saying "its cool to care". Whats REALLY the harm in honesty and giving a shit?
I disagree the ol skool don't have a problem with being sensitive it's when these youngstea or to feminine
@@Jaygroova no old heads are definitely sensitive. Not all of them, but most of them
Im n old head , n i don't think it's bad 2 care, us old heads don't like males acting feminine , that's all, maybe if y'all yung people wasn't wearing man purses n skin tight clothes , us old heads wouldn't say shit😂💯
@@leespn4396 I never said they wasn't I said these youngstea are to feminine and it's a difference between being feminine and being sensitive
What traits quantify femininity?? Old heads are upholding my point. If someone's femininity is honestly theirs ...my question still stands and why not mind your business if you just plan on minimizing people? Sounds like a trauma response to me 😬
I’d really like to hear Tyler and Kendrick work together on a song
I am still shocked they haven’t. Both are from LA. Both were coming up around the same time. Both performed at Paid Dues one year.
It’s flabbergasting [>
Tyler’s “Cash in Cash out” energy with Kendrick’s “Black Friday” energy
Just a sample of Kenny saying “f**got, f**got, f**got” on Auntie Diaries will be the feature
Tyler’s a little bit out of Kendrick’s league
@@0nyxFREI Nah, they both equal g lmao, in terms of production, tyler produces everything so ofc he’s better in that realm but in terms of lyricism and flow and concept kendrick is better, but they still both equal for me
Tyler is on point and also right about how some people out there can’t take the honesty on Kendrick’s album.
I love this album it’s album of the year so far for me.
JID
Yup I love what he says about feeling like he's looking at you straight in the eyes.
It's probably going to be best album of the decade. Literally this album in my honest opinion is on levels of Exodus by Bob Marley which was named album of the century. Kendrick is on a tier of artist that is dying out. An artist who treats the ting like fine wine.
I still respect Drake though because Drake is now on Beyonce levels of Pop hence her bringing her single out after he dropped his album. This is a game y'all to think these artists don't communicate and curate the pallet of what they give to us is underestimating their artistry. And this is why the industry is all about entertainment even down to the beefs now of days. We're so spoiled with this variety of good fucking music. Give thanks x
Jack Harlow
@@buckboy2301 of the decade is an absolute miss
Kendrick’s album is therapeutic. My guess, for himself and for us. Only those of us that are already in a space where we are ok with being vulnerable and open about our truths . And not necessarily having to do with every subject matter that he speaks about on this album, but the act of just sharing our stories candidly.
100% brotha. I feel like Kendrick is at a point in his career where he makes music for himself and like minded individuals. He's going to drop jewels, his truth, commentary on the culture as he sees it thru his lens and leave it up to the consumer to decide if it's something you want to rock with or not.
"'Til then, let's give the women a break, grown men with daddy issues"
I agree. Most importantly, it's an album on perspectives, that our own take on life will always be different than others and that's okay. Listen to understand, don't listen to judge.
The album was very adult
Perfectly said 🙏🏾
Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers ripped me out of writer's block. That's how inspiring and raw this album is. It didn't just inspire me to write again, it forced me to.
nice bruv
Same wtf
I know exactly what you mean
Init
What u writing about?
'I can't please everybody" "I am not your savior". It's a direct continuation from the themes in TPAB, especially Mortal Man. "When ish hits the fan, is u still a fan?"
When an artist releases their honest, honest emotions on music it's meant to stand out and be great!
Heard
Artist... Not a definition you can give to all.
Tyler has a solid point. To be this open on a record that's going to be listened to many hundred thousands of people, it takes courage. And same for listening to the same album and taking in full something so personal.
Millions
@@Gwrightproductions1 true
I wanted to use millions but at first I was thinking of people listening like on 1st week so I used something more like those numbers
@@gabrielmalta1962 yeah, but consider Kendrick doesn't just have hip hop fans. He also has fans who are legitimate musicians, who in turn, put their fans onto Kendrick.
CZcams is full of musical breakdowns of "Alright", "HUMBLE.", and Kendrick's albums.
Years from now, people will still be analyzing this album and discovering new elements and facets.
@@monteestowes1245 Yeah, absolutely. The scope is massive for him
There's tens of millions of listens on each track, so...
Tyler’s observation that KL’s music “looks [people] in their eyes” is rly spot on
now you know why Drake fans think this album sucks lol. Its hard to take a look in the mirror sometimes
I really think he’s right. Kendrick saw this coming; it’s what the Big Steppers are, right?
yep

That album is so real. Mother I sober gets too deep and emotional.
A month after the project now I can say it’s my 2nd fav Kendrick album
I spent a long time contemplating the placement of this album. I had it fourth. Then I had it third. Then second. Now...it's number one. It's insane, never had that experience before. The album literally grows in interest with each listen.
@@theconsciousobserver6829 It's better than TPAB to you?
@@369pendulum Absolutely. TPAB and MMBS are both off the beaten path, but there was an element on indigestion with TPAB. It's excellent music, incomparable, but this is also excellent music in every way and ontop of that it's digestible like soup, where as TPAB was like medicine. Some people can drink medicine and enjoy it's attempt at being cherry-flavored and appreciate the effects it has, but people really love honey, which is medicinal as well but moreso sweet. This is a softer, more compassionate Kendrick. It isn't Kunfu Kenny. It's Kozy Kouch Kenny. If that makes sense.
I love it but I still prefer TPAB, GKMC, DAMN & OD
it's really good but i just can't put it over GKMC & TPAB. i lived with those albums for years, let's see how this one ages
Tyler is damn good at speaking off the cuff, and really getting to the point in an illustrative way
Wow. What Tyler Is saying about Mr Morale is spot on. People are very afraid of listening to it, because it triggers the subconscious in them. He's speaking from the subconscious, and that's what resonates with the listener; the subconscious. The subconscious, if not processed can be scary
A line from the album that ties with what Tyler is saying goes as, “I see ‘em daily burin the pain in chains and tattoos” (mother I sober). Ppl try mask their trauma through materials and possessions rather than being vulnerable and seeking help like has Kendrick has, he mentions he’s been going to a therapist.
I thought of this lyric, as well, as Tyler was talking...
Juice even said "Never let your woman know when
you're insecure"
So I put Gucci on the fur
And I put my wrist on iceberg
One thing my heart tells me is
"Flex on a hoe every time they're
insecure"
@@thirtythird985 Juice was such a real dude
Good artists read the room and make relevant music. Great artists like Kendrick read the world and prepare medicine in the form of lyrics and music. In a post pandemic world a lot of us needed self introspection and healing. Kendrick is a prophet, the 🐐
Man, I’m still listening to MMATBS on constant repeat. I honestly don’t get how some people feel that it’s not sonically appealing.
It's mind blowing to think about and I feel for them because those critics are missing out on a classic gem, that will stand the test of time.
I really appreciate this coming from Tyler cause Flower Boy, Igor, and CMIYGL are super honest in their own right too just from a younger person's viewpoint vs Kendrick's older more mature viewpoint.
"Stop tap dancing around the issue" 😁
👯♂️
A lot of people aren’t themselves anymore, but just the tough fronting scared version of who they truly are.. I hope more people find what it really means to be a great human being and it’s not about being TOUGH
Yup, that's why him telling everyone to take off thier bullshit early in the album on N95 is so 🔥
@@StillOnTrack one of the hardest and realest verses I’ve EVER heard 🔥🔥🔥 all facts
@@StillOnTrack with so many other rap songs being about "get that bag, get that chain, have a hundred girls on call" Kendrick just straight up saying "Cut the bullshit, who are you as a person? Is this really what defines you?" is incredibly thought provoking and just like Tyler said for a lot of people it's probably very uncomfortable. And that's not even close to the most uncomfortable the album gets.
Father Time by Kendrick is an important song for alot of young kids who dont understand their fathers
I love how supportive he is. Kendrick Lamar mentioned tyler on that father song.
Mr. Morale is my favorite Kendrick album. It is too difficult for many fans--a little too raw and sometimes abstract. Kendrick takes the “Kendrick” persona and burns it in effigy in order to reclaim his independence and let some people down. By letting people down instead of being responsible for the morale of his people (“Mr. Morale”) he chooses his personal life and family, thereby killing/squashing those public expectations (“stepping on it”), which he anticipates will not go over well with everyone. The results show: many people I know don’t like this album and have been vocal in trashing it. Kendrick is an artist so attuned to his fan base, that he disappointed them on purpose (hence the crown of thorns on his head on the album cover). If that isn’t brilliant, I don’t know what is.
The sound is kinda boring tho
The thorns on the head is straight blasphemy. I couldn’t get pass that and Kendrick been my favorite since the heart pt 2. When he was 22 years old.. to much comparing himself to Jesus
@@bikezthenightstalker.3134 Thats the point , people are treating kendrick as their savior and as if he's Jesus when he's trying to say he's not
@@dominikzajkowski8242 DING DING DING!!
It’s my favorite as well
Damn he explained that perfectly.
Tyler explanation of the album was spot on
I swear bruh!!! Perfect analysis
Kendrick's honesty is refreshing. I haven't heard a mainstream rapper be this open and candid on wax since the late great DMX.
I also appreciate Kendrick's honesty on this album, and this is probably his most vulnerable and open album. However, musically, I am still having a hard time digesting this album, man. It's just exhausting that I would rather accept this album in the form of a book.
Then just appreciate the album for the reasons you stated like vulnerability/honesty etc. You can appreciate aspects of it without actually liking the album. I think everyone by now has realized this album was the album he wanted to make and more importantly needed to make. His therapy. He couldn't please everyone and he knew that when he was still making the album and crown is proof of that.
Lazy 😆
Shiiit i love this album musically
I think we’re all feeling like the replay ability is lacking by Kendrick standards.
That’s something we really value now more than ever!
When we can’t replay half this album it will come and go, THIS ALBUM CAME THROUGH LOUD & CLEAR THOUGH!
Half this album is thought pieces we can hardly replay.
Kendrick is that nigga, it's no debate & he's an artist that has accolades & achievements other rappers & ect people dream about.
Family ties? Assuming you meant Father Time
Love that album too , damn Tyler you the best an your honesty is the realest
I adored the album. I usually can understand why some people dont like something in entertainment, but this one i just couldnt understand why some hated it
0:35 Did you mean to say “father time”instead of “family ties”?
Lol I was thinking that too
I was wondering why noone pointed that out lol
I laughed out loud when I heard that
She said family ties
I thougjt I was buggin
The album is his best by far. I love iit. Too me it’s his most personal album and everyone can relate to it and Tyler is right I could see why others may not like it but apart from that I live music that is personal and causes the listener to hold mirror to oneself.
It’s very hard for me to see how people like this album, it’s completely horrible to me and his worst album
@@shawnrobinson6641 not his worst, not his best
The first time I listened to "Mr Morale" I was brought to tears multiple times. No joke. Heavy album for sure. Definitely one of the GOAT.
That’s the exact reason I loved it too. It resonated close with me, because I’ve dealt with mental health issues my entire life aswell. It helps us feel okay with opening up. Sometimes one needs an idol, or someome they look up to for that motivation to do it, especially if one doesn’t feel they can get that from the people around them.
I waited a while before listening to Kendrick joint, folks calling it a flop, nah you just have to be on a certain mindset maturity to understand 🔥
I felt how Creator feels.
I was like he's talking about the ugly state of the culture. Folks perpetuating the BS ain't gone like it 🤷🏽♂️
Me as an underground artist with a small audience, Tyler is the type of success story that inspires me. It's been inspiring to see how he's grown in his abilities and steadily exploded after embracing every chance he's been given! With good reason, Mans has swiftly become a hallmark in the music business. I know that if I work hard enough, I can eventually reach a wider audience, but for now, I'm satisfied as a supporter. It'll be my time next. Much respect Tyler🔥
I listen to that new Kdot constantly
It’s five out of five 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
💯💯
Me to brother, missing all the other shit that's coming out 😂
10/10. It's his best album
Add me to this chorus
@@theconsciousobserver6829 nah damn his best
Kendrick is a generational artist. A modern day genius, he not only is the greatest rapper of all time he is a voice to black vulnerability and strength in sharing feelings. The comment Tyler said about the generational divide is spot on
Everybody wants to be hard and everybody wants to appear to be something that they're not. Nobody wants to look in the mirror and be who they actually are. Nobody wants to talk about the things that have affected them and still affect them til this day and it shows in so many ways. Kendrick Lamar did justice by dropping this album. hands down. It's amazing how he always seems to capture how I feel and put it in words.
I think Kendrick's grittiness and Tyler's creativity would make a monumental collaboration.
Mr morale the best album I’ve heard in years
Another perfect elaboration on why Drake sucks
I loved the album it was touching and deep.
Tyler ft Kendrick would be crack but it would have to be Tyler on Kendricks album because I know Tyler will bring them bars when Tyler goes in it’s dope
NAAAAAAHHHHH MAAAAN. you know how fucking crazy a kendrick feature would be over tyler’s production????? it would be so left field and hard
My auto playlists have given me both kendrick-ty and ty-kendrick, and with no editing, just it going song to song, most of them kinda transition. Very different yet pretty similar
@@Joela393 nah I disagree because he had a lil Wayne on Cherry bomb I think and Wayne went crazy if Wayne had put Tyler on his album nobody would’ve see that coming making the song much sweeter it’s easy to be a goat and get in a album like Tyler’s But the other way around you would get more respect
Tyler knows how to bring the best out of an artist so it’ll be better with Kenny on Tyler’s album

My exact thoughts
I can’t wait for Tyler and Kendrick colab.
No pun intended I felt humbled and literally blessed bumping this album today. Kendrick makes history every time. It’s not just about how it sounds to your ears it’s about the way it hits your heart and he never misses when it comes to capturing the essence of the times. I think Mr Morale isn’t palatable for a lot of people because we’re in ugly times and that ugliness and feeling of being fed up really comes out in this album. 10/10 ❤️🔥❤️🔥

I used to be a fan, But after hearing this masterpiece, I'm a whole air conditioner🥺🔥☄️🧨👌🏼 I never bought Tyler The Creator would Work with 21 Savage and Pharrell Williams and comes out with such a beautiful joint 🤞🏼🤞🏼
I don’t think Mr Morale is too personal. It’s definitely personal to Kendrick, but at the end of the day, there’s no such thing as too personal unless the individual is uncomfortable sharing the experiences. Kendrick did his thing. He never disappoints. The Big Stepper.
so dope
This album is amazing
Big Facts
I think that's why Kendrick is a pioneer. He is comfortable with making people uncomfortable
WE NEED A KENDRICK TYLER COLLAB
I like how he acknowledges that not everyone who doesn't like the album is uncomfortable with the messaging, and that some of them might also just dislike the music. I love the album just as much as Tyler does and I don't understand how people can dismiss the music as "trash", but I think the nuanced perspective he approaches this subject with is very mature and respectful.

I couldn't imagine Tyler not loving Mr Morale.
If there was any other beef, I think Tyler and kendrick would have a sick battle. I don't think it would get as deep as the drake and kendrick beef, it would just be bars
