The wings look tired. Id like to think our easier schedule at home will put us back the race but the way weve played against bottom tier teams overall has me nervous. I was ok with them not making playoffs. Not by implosion though. That will sting.

One comment of the Tortorella fine, you compared him to players, Players have the NHLPA agreements to protect them, coaches on the other hand do not.

In regards to cap circumventing:
What do you think of the solution being, if the players on the LTIR don’t return to play before the end of the season, they are ineligible to play 1 game/million (rounded) AAV in the post season?
Stone’s salary is 9.5 mil, so he’d have to sit out 10 post season games.
Do you think that would be a fair deterrent?
I would also stipulate, this would only be the case if their salary on LTIR was over the cap. If they still kept it on the books, no post season penalty applies.

In regards to taxation issues causing larger gaps between teams being able to ice competitive teams/attract top players:
What do you think to restructuring the player contracts/salary cap so that it’s based off of NET pay? Teams with high taxation like Canadian teams and Californian teams would still be disadvantaged in that to pay a 8 mil salary they’d have to end up paying closer to 13 for the player to take home 8, but only 8 would count against the cap, and if those teams wanted to remain within a more fiscally responsible budget, they could opt not to sign those contracts… in essence, it would at least give these teams the option, rather than being at a disadvantage with no way to get around it competitively.

@@michaelkeller5927 thanks. I think it would work, the only issue being the rollout. With contracts already existing with term, you’d have to either allow for a slow rollout or renegotiation of contracts…. You couldn’t just flip it overnight and now, for instance, the contract petterson just signed with Vancouver would count as 7.8mil instead of the 11.6 he signed… reason being, if he was traded to Florida for instance for Tkachuk (9.5aav), petey would, despite having signed a deal at 11.6 that in Florida would pay him 11.6, would now have only a 7.8 contract, while Tkachuk in van would still have a 9.5….
So the rollout is a problem. They’d have to be creative with things to change over effectively, allowing currently signed contracts to treat the signed amount as the net amount or something.
Buffalo takes it the hardest. Not only do you gotta deal with the worst weather you gotta get hit with the worst taxes on top of it. Its a 100% lose/lose situation.

@@axe2grind244 a little research will show that every Canadian city has higher taxes than Buffalo, and worse weather to boot (minus Vancouver. Vancouver has decent weather if you don’t mind rain, but the taxes are insane)
I always giggle a bit when I hear someone talk about “PP time”.
Honestly I know its been a while since weve been in the playoffs. But whats the point if all we are is a 1st round team. Id rather give our prospect pool ice time in the nhl so we can develop them further cause at the end of the day this team wont be challenging for cups for another 2+ years. Idc about playoffs if we aren't in a position to win it. We have one of if not the best prospect pool. We need to prioritize them and keep going through the pain now to make sure our future is bright.
You should make a video looking back at the 2023 deadline and how you viewed the trades at the time verse now.
Dahlin and Power have both played on their opposite side (Dahlin especially when he's paired with Samuelsson). I believe Byram can play both sides as well. Yeah, it isn't ideal, but those defensemen are versatile and I don't believe it'll be a problem.
Byram played PP2 on the right wing, and he has played RD in the second pairing as well. I honestly think he is the most comfortable on his off side out of the three you named

The Byram and Mittelstadt trade is an A+ for both teams. Both got exactly what they needed and was best possible outcome for each team. Pumped for my Avs and Sabres are my hometown team so I’ll still get to see Bo play. As long as his concussion issues don’t resurface it should end up an even trade
I would say if Byram was a right shot it would be the best possible outcome for both teams. Other than that, you’re absolutely correct.

What will the Arizona Coyotes do with their defense in the offseason? They do not have any defensemen signed beyond this season. RFAS like Durzi, Moser, Valamaki, Soderstrom, and Kesselring need new contracts while Dermott and Brown are UFAS.

You may have done this to avoid saying that Detroit will miss the playoffs and Islanders will miss them. Because you are a known Detroit fan this is my theory, especially knowing that Detroit hasn't played since Saturday and Islanders may move past them. They did but only for a day.

The two trades that will have the most impact in each conference is the Guentzel trade to Carolina and Hertle to Vegas. I expect to see those two teams in the finals with Vegas repeating.

Kuznetsov steal of the deadline… cost less than those other 2 deals and has looked incredible in his first 2 games in carolina. Not on the scoresheet yet but he has been making a huge difference when he’s on the ice
