    I found your channel around the beginning of this year and enjoy all your content. I’m now ordering books from the UK, because I obviously didn’t have enough on my TBR! 😂 Funny story… I was in Vegas about a month ago and was alone in my hotel room watching one of your videos. I swore I could hear the people in the next room breathing! Paused the video, nothing. Resumed video and a few seconds later the hair stood up on the back of my neck! I could hear someone breathing, right behind me! I jumped out of bed, turned on the lights…nothing. When I started the video again I finally realized I was hearing Teddy’s breathing/snores! So while I love seeing Teddy on the videos, I believe he took a few years off my life that night! 😂🥰

      I'm sorry his breathing scared you! I try to let people know that he's snoring when it starts to happen, but sometimes I forget. I'm so glad you're enjoying my channel. 🥂 📚

    “We’ll be your gay friends.” ❤😂 I love these wrap ups with the whole fam.
    My favorite Feb reads:
    The Berry Pickers (Amanda Peters)
    Kindred (Octavia Butler)
    Wintering (Katherine May)
    Underground Railroad (Colson Whitehead)
    Mrs S (K Patrick, and one of my favorite reads to date)
    Dune (Frank Herbert; I was so surprised I enjoyed it so much, and the Dune 2 movie is amazing)
    The Secret Life of Albert Eintwitzel (Matt Cain; based on your recommendation!)
    Night of the Living Rez (Morgan Talty)
    All the Sinners Bleed was my first Cosby book and I think it’s my favorite of his. The narrator for this and Razorblade Tears is fire! 🔥 I also started Matrix in Feb and sadly DNFd-maybe I’ll try it again someday since so many love it. I adored North Woods, also one of my very favorite reads. Eagerly waiting for Heaven & Earth coming up on my library hold.
    March is going to be a hot mess of trying to juggle the Women’s prize nonfiction & fiction lists plus a bunch of books I’ve started and then got attacked by squirrels and still need to finish, plus random titles from my favorite book tubers that sound just too good to wait on. Too many books!

    • @SupposedlyFun
      @SupposedlyFun  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I do worry about the stress levels of anyone trying to read both Women’s Prize lists this year. Hang in there! I’m so glad you liked Albert Entwhistle and Night of the Living Rez! What a fascinating bunch of reads.

    You three couldn’t be more fun to watch! 💜💜💜xxx
    Absolutely agree on All The Sinners Bleed!
    Dog Songs! OMG! That poem! 😭😭😭💜💜💜
    You have me really curious about One Love with the changing ratings! I’m definitely going to pick up a copy on my next trip to London, which, shockingly, may be the end of June! Gasp! Total tourist season and summer to boot!
    I listened to The Hummingbird’s Gift over the weekend and loved it! So glad you both recommended it! I will definitely move on to some of Sy’s other work.
    For the guy who likes the snow and cold, I can definitely recommend Blizzard by Marie Vingtras translated from the French. It’s a very quick read and an ostensibly simple plot, but there is so much more behind it. I think Joel might like it. (Definitely no cinnamon bun action though.)
    I listened to Winter Love by Han Suyin over the weekend too and really enjoyed it!
    Eastbound by Maylis de Kerangal was also fantastic on audio! Highly recommended!
    And from the Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction longlist, I listened to Doppelganger by Naomi Klein. Really, really outstanding. Even if you just listen to the chapter and Israel and Palestine, written before current events, it would be well worth your time.

      Isn’t that poem wonderful?? I’m so glad you enjoyed Winter Love and The Hummingbird’s Gift. Such good books. I have Eastbound saved on Scribd and still want to get to it. And how exciting that you will being London soon! Even if it’s in the busy season.

    If you want to try S.A. Cosby, but are apprehensive, I recommend looking up some of his short stories. I've run across a couple of them in various anthologies (the 2023 Best Mystery and Suspense is the one the first comes to mind) and they have all been excellent. He's a really tight writer so, in short story film, there is less violence so they might be a good on ramp to his work.

    Not directly related to sightseeing in Dublin, but if you want to go to an independent bookstore, check out Chapters on Parnell Street.

Polar night, polar bears, a lot of snow and beautiful landscape. I just bought The memoirs of Stockholm Sven set in this town and can’t wait to read it. Hopefully, before winter ends.

    • @bookofdust
      @bookofdust Před 4 měsíci

      Ugh! I may have misspoke! The movie I saw was Survive!, which was a Mexican made film based on the book Survive! by Clay Blair. I guess there were competing books at the time. I do know I read Alive! because I was somewhat obsessed that his name had “Read” in it and that made it funny to me. I do know remember being confused why the book was Alive!, but the movie was Survive! And I knew that the movie wasn’t Chilean, despite the Andes.

    • @bookofdust
      @bookofdust Před 4 měsíci +1

      By the way I was obsessed with all those Airport movies of the 70s, especially Helen Hayes as the grifter old lady, Helen Reddy as the singing nun and of course as any good gay boy I was obsessed with Karen Black landing that god damn plane all by herself! And then there was Airplane!

    I'm excited for the Irish books! I absolutely loved Open Throat, but I get how some folks will not. It's weird, isn’t it, how it's being marketed as a gay mountain lion? He likes watching people/animals having sex, which to my mind, doesn't necessarily mean he's gay or straight. 🤷🏻‍♀️ That ending, though! *Chef's kiss!*
