    I absolutely love your videos!
    I've been kicking the idea around for years to try composite work and watching your videos made me realize that you don't have to have a shop full of fancy equipment to do this. Mostly patience. Sadly I have a much smaller window where the weather is OK to work with. As usual, collect parts over winter and hit it hard in the summer.
    Thanks from the States 👍🇺🇸

    I really enjoy your channel. I thank you for all your work. I check everyday to see if there is a new video. Inspired me to finally get a project for the hills and tracks here near home in the U.S.. I bought a Focus wagon for $300, runs and drives. I'm taking a cue from you and doing as much body work as I can to make it my own. Even throwing in a 3.5 Ecoboost. Thank you.

    Hi Bill, I notice in many other tutorials, they apply many many spray coats of gelcoat. My question is, hen using a brush as you do, ar you able to achieve a uniform layer of gelcoat without thin spots?
    Thanks again for all your efforts!!

    • @cactuscomposites
      @cactuscomposites Před 5 lety

      You want it to be thick, you control how much you can put on, it looks like Bill is not afraid to use medium amounts of gel coat, I personally will cake it on enough so I know that the if there is any repairs needed to be made I know that I wont sand through the gel coat

      I'd like to, but I can't at this stage. How do I weigh the Kevlar I laid into the floor? What I can & will do is weigh my existing car, then this one when everything is transferred over. That's the only way I can get a weigh comparison , and the whole project will need to be completely finished before I can do that.

    Question: to make the molds do it all, both quick and easy hand layups and high end vacuum infusion with tailor made cuts of different materials, would it be as simple as just adding flanges to your molds?

    • @BillsBuildandRace
      @BillsBuildandRace  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes & no. Yes - it is easy to add flanges to car panels using coreflute sheeting (the stuff real estate agent signs are made from). This can be screwed in place and self releases from fiberglass. No - This gives you a mold for vacuum bagging, but does not allow the quick edge trimming & sanding of the finished product before releasing it from your mold that is possible with an un-flanged mold. However you CAN vacuum bag an un-flanged mold. All you do is put bagging on both sides of it using tacky tape, joining the two vacuum plastic sheets into a fully enclosing bag - rather than just a single sheet just covering one side as with a flanged mold.

      @@BillsBuildandRace interested to know how much you've spent on materials for the car so far. From looking around on the internet it seems epoxy is quite expensive!

    Whats the price in carbon fibre to make a door like that?

    • @BillsBuildandRace
      @BillsBuildandRace  Před 5 lety +1

      The door needed 3 x 1.5m pieces, so 4.5m total cloth, which goes for $45 - 50 per metre depending on where you buy it... so about A$225. But the epoxy resin isn't cheap either.
