  • I love getting lost in Cities...most of the time. The situationists used the navigational device called a derive to explore the city. A derive, the french word for drift, is a spontaneious unplanned wandering through a landscape. In others its a form of getting lost, a way of exploring and finidng new things and making new mental maps of our cities. Here I find myself in an unplanned and impromptu derive ( I got off at the wrong metro stop in Dubai) forcing me to artfully (stop panicking) navigate my way home through using memorable landmarks.

This is not Derive, or psychogeography...Look at Ian Sinclair's City of Disappearances, Ackroyd's Hawksmoor, or Moore's Unearthing
