- Gundams! Yamato! Gerry Anderon! Battlestar Galactica! All in the same books!
One of those series of I forgot about, remembered, forgot about, and the next time it bubble up in my brain I made sure to write it down so I could find a reasonably priced copy.
The 2005 is my kind of book with it's everything but the kitchen sink approach. There's just a ton of content, some of it in tiny little panels, some of it in huge double or triple page spreads. And the whole thing is horizontal for some reason, while the other book I have is a completely different format- just because.
Lot of neat stuff to be seen in these paegs! - Zábava
Kobayashi's style really does it for me. His mechanical designs occupy just the right spot between believable sci-fi and futuristic fantasy. His work has a special flavour and atmosphere to it. I had seen some of these models and illustrations before, but only as low-res scans.
Books filled to the brim with awesomeness!
Good god do I love this guy's art and designs. He is second only to Nagano. I really need to finally pick up some of his newer books at some point, I only have his 80's art books and manga tankobons.
I love those types of kitchen sink books. Inspiration and tangents abound.
don't you mean coffee table?
@@Demiurge13 well in this case I was referring to the "everything but the kitchen sink" idiom.
@@Buzzregog ah I wasn't clear on that
Oh wow. Gotta find those.
Id buy an entire encyclopedia on his work. Great to hear someone mention Last Exile. I remember that on TechTV or SciFi but never got into it until buying some anime DVDs the store threw in a free bonus that was the first disc of Last Exile and just fell in love. I should dust it off. It really surprises me the number of shows I own that he's had some influence on. Gankutso and Samurai 7 are some of my favorites too.
yea last exile was pretty cool. Nice animations in that show, especially battles between the airships and stuff
I own hyperweapon 2014. Napoleon has a space station in one drawing
