    I'll never forget discovering this on late-night AM radio as a child. CBSRMT, Quiet Please, X-1, Dimension X, The Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, One Step Beyond & similar radio & TV series + the stories on which they were based & the myriad of media they inspired makes for engaging entertainment. Thanks for posting, ChillySunshine!

    Forgot to mention in my prior post: E.G. Marshall! I still recall the first time I caught CBSRMT on late-night AM radio & heard his iconic voice which like Rod Serling's, TOL's The Control Voice, The Cryptkeeper et al I will forever associate with the best in sci-fi/horror/the supernatural, etc. Thanks again for posting!

      It's not just the younger (yours or younger) that are missing out. I'm twice your age and grew up with these and I knew no one else who cared about them or particularly understood why I did. It's nice to come across other "night listeners" who were out there listening to these broadcasts in the dark of their own bedrooms. It's wonderful to see there are folks like yourself who are discovering and enjoying them today. I think that in their entirety they are a national treasure.

      @@stevebergman6431 Oh, yes, Babs. I can see why she'd wipe thoughts of anything else from your mind. My best friend loves her as well. I like the more Gothic-tinged episodes of the series. Ya know dark stormy night, your car breaks down and at the nearest house - the only one around (how convenient!)-Boris Karloff's latest monster answers the door. "Of couuurseee you can use our phone! Come right in. We'd love to have you for dinner!"

    • @adamantman3200
      @adamantman3200 Před 5 lety +1

      @@stevebergman6431 I am a broadcast historian and have my own collection of 10,000+ shows, the earliest being from 1924, which makes selecting a few of my favorites from a particular series difficult. That 1924 program is a celebration of Navy Day and is the earliest known surviving broadcast in complete form. It runs about 90 minutes. You hear the actual voices of WWI-era military leaders such as Gen. "Black Jack" Pershing. It's a fascinating display of American Military might and what then considered newest technology.
      I also have about 60 minutes of NBC's coverage of Lindbergh's return from France, 6/11/27. NBC itself had been in operation about seven months at this point. Broadcast recordings in complete form prior to 1935 are very rare because most shows were either not recorded at all or the recordings are lost to time.
      I did a quick read through of an episode log of CBSRMT that I found online and didn't see a a listing for "Jane Eyre" but they did do a number of Edgar Allen Poe's stories, such as 'The Black Cat",and "The Horla".
      Head on over to The Internet Archive (that's all you need to enter in your browser) and you'll find thousands of not only vintage radio programs but vintage TV and movies as well. That's just a very brief description of the type of materials they have stored. AND YOU CAN DOWNLOAD FOR FREE, if you'd like. At least you can with the Audio-Visual holdings. I haven't tried to download any documents, but I don't see a problem in doing so. The site gives easy instructions on downloading. If you'd like to upload material for the archive, it will explain exactly how to do that too., easy-sneezy! You can easily burn to CD anything you have downloaded.
      I'll have to take a look at THE OLD, DARK HOUSE. It sounds like would enjoy it!
      Well, so long for now.
      Best, ADAM 😊

    Unfortunately, during the commercial break around 27:55, the sound quality changes and the remainder of the radio drama is difficult to understand. I tried on 2 different devices and had the same problem. With headphones, it was only slightly better, but certainly aggravating to listen to.
