There are a few human nuances in the playing. Of course, no one wants a trainwreck in the middle of any video! haha

Oh, also, the bass playing in this video is off the charts outstanding. Fantastic, highly technical, and very precise playing, from start to finish.
This is by far my favourite inferi song and I'd love to watch a guitar playthrough and see how they get that awesome high squeal in the first solo

Sammy SlamDance Didn't say the vocals weren't fucking amazing tho, just that an instrumental version is good material for personal recording. Hard to know if you sound good or not when you have to layer your voice over existing vocals. And if the lyrics/vox weren't awesome to begin with, I wouldn't waste my time practicing over it.

anyone know if he's using flatwounds on this playthrough? sounds and looks like it but not 100% sure.
Is he tuned up half a step from E? Or did he drop down to C? I have been dying to learn this song and the tabs I have seen all suggest that he tuned up from E.

How does one acquire the talent to play a fretless bass?
Zombienaut3885 it's not that bad. Playing an actual upright is a lot harder lol
Practice
You get used to fretless after some time, eventually it comes naturally and requires far less attention to intonation. My suggestion, pull a Jaco and rip the frets out of an old jazz or p bass.

Honestly, and I kind of feel like a dick for saying this but, wait, no, no I don't feel like a dick, I hate this apologetic culture!!!!! Dude, Joel, you are amazing, truly, but the only constructive criticism I have to offer is regarding your right hand. The only thing that my ear picks up on is the annunciation between your index and middle finger. Your plucks sometimes dip drastically, and that percussive effect is lost. I've noticed a lot, and the only thing I can think is that it's your finger just not hitting correctly.
People, feel free to call me out, call me a dick, call me critical, whatever, but I'm just trying to help with something I've observed as a listener/viewer.

I'm kind of surprised that he's using flat-wounds on this. Most of the other fretless tech death guys use round-wounds. I guess it won't damage his fingerboard as much though lol
TheSpiffyPuppet flats have that amazing burpy sound that rounds don't have. Plus keeping the fretboard nice is a bonus
