I am for asking the delegates, who were supposedly elected by the people (representative democracy and all that good stuff) to decide who the nominee should be, something members of Congress don't officially get to weigh in on until the second ballot, if there is one, at the convention. Are the delegates wavering or ready to renege on their pledges to vote for Biden in August?
The problem with waiting to ask the people as a whole, is that if keeping Biden at the top of the ticket turns out to be a mistake, November 6th is already too late to do anything about it unless you would like Harris to do what Pence wouldn't, in which case, what's the point of electing Democrats?.
If what you're talking about is polls, this year is turning out to be very much like 1980 so far. We have a slick, smooth-talking TV star up against a decent, intelligent Democratic incumbent with a lot of accomplishments (remember the world-altering Egypt-Israel peace treaty?) who is not smooth-talking and is perceived as weak (though for different reasons). Except for convention bounces on both sides, Reagan was ahead 2-5% throughout the summer and fall, within the margin of error, just like Trump is this year, while everyone waited for Carter to finally show his chops, and waited, and waited. When it didn't happen by the weekend before Election Day, two-thirds of the undecideds broke for Reagan the last weekend and he won by 9% and a landslide in the EC.
That's what I worry about.

And you can't blame that on COVID without blaming the inflation rate on the recovery from COVID when demand surged, or would you prefer 1.2 million more deaths, increased crime, a Depression, a time when prices come down to what they were four years earlier?
If all those who are upset about inflation would cut their spending back to COVID levels, prices would come down and so would salaries and employment, just like they did under Trump. That's all it would take. If you would like prices to come down and salaries to go up, better go to sleep. That happens only in dreams, not in a capitalist society.

Two scenarios: NATO funds Ukraine to fight Putin. Or, allow Putin to take Ukraine. Research Putin's history of invading countries in past decades. He will not stop at Ukraine, and it is our duty to protect our NATO allies. I don't want to send our children and grandchildren to fight boots on the ground war in Europe. Because Ronald Reagan convinced everyone that "Are YOU better off than you were four years ago?" i.e. can you afford to buy the stuff you don't need but want, is the most important thing in the world. If both acquiring possessions and democracy can be maintained simultaneously for them, then fine. If push comes to shove, the ability to acquire stuff trumps the preservation of democracy.
By the way, this is exactly the weakness in the people that right wing demagogues always prey on...because it always works better than anything else. And because it works, they can tie everything else to it, for example, immigrants are taking jobs away from you, and that's why you can't afford a bigger, TV, a bigger car, a bigger house (none of which you need, but you want), though it's not true. If people didn't want all those things they didn't need, right wing authoritarians wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

Let me give you a word of explanation about why Orban is everywhere these days. My country belongs to the EU, and the way it works is that, every 6 months, a different EU country assumes the presidency of the Council of the Union. My country, Belgium, finished its presidency at the end of June, The president’s role is to preside on various EU meetings accordingto an agreed upon agenda, but Orban cannot bind Europe by his own actions. However, in the very next days after he was appointed, Orban, on his own initiative, went to Kyiv to have "peace talks" with Zelenski. Big outcry in Europe, but course, who stressed Orban had no authority to do so on behalf of Europe. Next, Orban went to see Putin with the same agenda, and we can imagine what was said. Thirdly, Orban went to China to meet Xhi. And then, he used the ceremonies of NATO’s 75th anniversary to represent the EU, and who does he get to meet to discuss "peace talks" between Russia and Ukraine ? Not Biden, not NATO’s General Secretary, but Trump - who, I stress, is a political nobody in this game, just like Orban who represents only himself.
Needless to say, the EU Council and Commission are absolutely furious about this, the more so since Orban kept his projects secret. Of course, Orban never claimed to be a EU "ambassador" but the fact that he underwent all these travels and meetings right after Hungary’s appointment to the presidency speaks of itself. The fact that he went to see Trump tells you all you need to know about his political leaning. We in Europe knew that Hungary’s presidency would be a difficult time, and indeed, in hardly 3 weeks, Orban has done everything to sully the Union. It is an absolute shame !
