The clamp notches for the screw go together at the end of the slip-on/exhaust, you had me all messed up trying the way you did it. After reading the directions it says to clamp the ends together with vice grips and then attach.
I hope that makes sense, there should not be a gap on the bracket with the rubber on the inside, they wrap fully around the pipe and then attach.
