So, be careful and if it happens, don't try to fight back or go after them, 1st they can run, a lot, you won't catch them; and 2nd they can throw hands, very well, even if they're not as tall or don't seem to be as strong, believe me when I say, you might end up at the hospital. Desde paisagens mais frias e montanhosas a secas ou de mata fechada, com seu dialeto regional que mais parece um tipo de idioma diferente...

Drumming is one of the cultural items that comes from their African heritage. You will also see it in their food and dance. Although they speak a European language, they have contributed some African words to it from Yoruba, Bantu and other languages.
You will also see some dress in Afro inspired clothing. The return to Afro hair is a new trends. For years women would straighten their hair to give it an Euro feel, not so much anymore.
Dance is another area with heavy Afro influence. Hopefully you get to see some of the martial arts known as capoeira. Yep, another African cultural contribution.
With the exception of Haiti, Bahia has the heaviest Afro influence of any country outside of Africa itself.
And yes indeed you are moving right along with your Portuguese skills. I was hesitant to try and speak any of it that I learned. You are very bold and that helps.
By the way ... the "h" in Bahia is silent. So it becomes "Ba-eee-a" ...
