- At least 43 people have been killed and four are missing after Hurricane Otis ripped through the beach resort city of Acapulco, levelling homes and hotels, submerging cars and cutting off communications.

The extent of the damage from the category 5 storm, which struck Mexico on Thursday with winds of 165mph, has started to become clear as thousands of first responders and military officers begin to assess the damage. Otis was one of the most powerful storms ever to have hit Mexico, officials said. It shocked forecasters and scientists as it rapidly intensified off the Pacific coast while passing through warm waters, tearing up streets and scattering debris as it made landfall.

My heart goes out to the people of Acapulco.
thanks
greetings from Mexico.
As a mexican that has been living in acapulco all of my life, thank you. I went through this, it was horrible. I am now safe in Mexico City.
What a beautiful place and the people to match it. Love & prayers from Chicago Illinois.
I'm living in Guadalajara city and its Terrible what happened in Acapulco, especially to poor people, but life goes on 😔
Not for everyone...will you say the same when it's your area that gets wiped out?
The metropolitan area of Guadalajara can never be damaged by a storm. it's impossible to flood Guadalajara, but it can be severely hit by earthquakes and we are afraid of that. @@norml.hugh-mann
Praying for the victims
Pray harder. I don't think its working.
Just heard about this, turns out my aunt lives there and thankfully survived. hope her and everyone else will be ok
Terrible why aren't we hearing about this In media TV news etc
What do you mean? It has been all over the news, record intensificaron to category 5, massive destruction.
@crBudgetWatches yeah but happened Wednesday wasn't on news here till after that
It’s not Israel, Europe or Asia that’s why. Americans look across the oceans but never south of the border only when it comes to the border.
Because the agenda was a gun grab by the government so the narrative by the news is the Maine shooting.
Yup. We're being invaded literally.
Why are you reducing the colors
Bless those affected by Otis🙏❤️

One month after Hurricane Otis - you can see the devastation. This city was a tropical paradise much like Miami Florida. A thriving city full of night life but Otis took all of it away.
naaah we are better now
I'm surprised to see that highrise builldings that appeared to be made of reinforced concrete were actually constructed with steel frameworks with some kind of material used for walls that got completely blown out.
it was an unnatural hurricane. Weather manipulation
At their high end, category five hurricanes will level even concrete structures miles inland. Read what happened to islands hit by the strongest windspeed hurricanes: Everything is leveled. Strong cat 5 means you either seek shelter underground or in a building built to withstand hurricanes (there are few), or you very likely die.
@@niedas3426 No. Poured-in-place reinforced concrete will survive even EF-5 tornadoes, which have wind speeds considerably higher than even the strongest hurricanes, although elements like windows and doors will be blown out. What will be blown down, however, are cement-block walls that are composed of individual blocks held together by mortar.
why would you go underground in a hurricane@@niedas3426
you are right.. real cocnrete houses are ok here, only "tabla roca" walls were destroyed. Otis gsusts reached 205 mph according to anemometer located in Parque de la reina"@@hebneh

HAARP Proyect?🤔
@lovepeacebliss: Prove your point.
if you don't believe in climate change, then Haarp's gotta be responsible is what you're saying.
Y’all will blame literally anything but climate change
It's amazing how many comments I had to scroll through before I found someone who knows what's up. Bless you for saying it! And for the person asking you to prove it.... geoengineering is not a secret....do some homework and learn a little instead of expecting everyone to try to wake you up. There's more than enough information out there that any reasonable person that understands that the government is not your friend would come to the conclusion that governments also control the weather and have for a very, very long time.
Speechless...🇿🇦
Looks like a boost in the economy soon.
Pray for Mexico. And there’s nothing on the new
If only there was some way to rebuild all this 🤔
Yeah there is. Are you gonna spend the billions to do it knowing another hurricane could lay waste to it in a year?
Smart city! Oh, I mean, smart 💡
Come on US why don't you send México a few billion since you can send some for every other country that needs help
yea... but all the people now have illegally immigrated to the states instead of supporting their own country
Now show the before and after pictures of Pompeii in 79 AD ? Maybe the Japanese tsunami in 2011, or the beach front property the elites own, that is immune to rising sea levels ?
So why are the police and army stopping aid coming from the other parts of exico with armed guards blocking all aid efforts same scenario as Maui
15 minute city planning.
Looks like Acapulco was blasted back to the Stone Age after a nuclear blast. Wow!
Things built on excess will not stand the test of time. Time to buckle up, kiddos and create solid foundations.

I'm surprised they have such big hotels! I thought people avoided Acapulco because it's dangerous?
We still have local tourims and south american tourism. Also there are even more dangerous places

Looters in AcaPoohlco are taking anything they can grab.
People are doing what they can to survive which appears to hard for you to understand.
The rich come down soon no? Go hungry with the rest if humanity no?
Hurricanes will do that, especially in hurricane season.
Otis made the strongest landfall in the eastern pacific in recorded history.
Overall, it was the fourth-strongest landfalling Mexican hurricane by sustained wind speed, behind hurricanes: Janet, in 1955; Anita, in 1977; and Dean, in 2007.
But hey, nice try.
1) I said eastern Pacific hurricane, try reading next time.
2) This storm hit a major urban area with 1 million+ people meanwhile those other storms while still strong and devasting to the areas they hit, still are negligible compared to Otis. Even the president said that this storm was the worst to ever hit in Mexican history.
3) It is much easier for a Caribbean Hurricane to make a Cat 5 landfall than it is for an epac storm to do the same.

who did acapulco harm?
@@PaulGreenwaldno it isn’t, stuff like this can happen in El Niño years in the pacific ocean

That’s what happens when your building codes are NOT up to hurricane standards on a tropical coastline. Silly humans put many lives in danger with flying debris.
And what buildings can withstand a CAT5 with winds of over 165mph? None.
Help Acapulco Build it then
All of these buildings have very precise specifications for the material and the way they are build, which is why Acapulco was for decades one of the best destinations in the world long before Cancun or Puerto Vallarta...but no one is ready for a category 5 hurricane, not even a only country is ready
Then should they build bunkers to "be up to hurricanes"? What building can resist a Cat5 if not a bunker?
Yep if only those codes were followed up to standard there would have been 0 damage , right einstein
