Why NASCAR's Brandon Brown Controversy May Get WORSE

- The “Let’s Go Brandon” meme has swept across the globe in the months following the 2021 Talladega win that Brandon Brown scored in the Xfinity Series. This seemed to peak in NASCAR this past offseason as Brandon, in desperation to sign a sponsor for the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, partnered with LGBCoin. This is a cryptocurrency that is a “memecoin” based off of the pivotal moment caused a huge controversy that has led to NASCAR banning the sponsor in an effort to distance itself in general from political content. But I think that this could only be the start of the problems for NASCAR. This is why NASCAR’s Brandon Brown controversy may get worse.

Do you think NASCAR should ban all political sponsorship?
Yes
Yes!
Yes
Politics and auto racing should have zero to do with each other, so my answer is yes
absolutely. the only thing that politics do is create division and bitter hatred amongst people
The worst part is, had Brandon not won that race this could have been passed onto literally anybody in that field.
Brandon Jones finished 2nd. We'd have "Let's go Brandon" if he would've won too.
@@DarkVoid718 If it was Jones he would have probably had the help of Joe Gibbs and John Menard to back him up. Brown doesn't have those kinds of backers, which put him in a much worse position to have to deal with this basically by himself.

Asking the real question
Pretty much this. Nascar ruined his team and potentially his carrer. This is just sweet revenge it feels like. All orchestrated. LGBcoin didnt need a race for this level if publicity. They knew what they were doing.
Nascar deserves all of what they are getting and I hope they get their asses sued to the ground.
and yet the coin is still down money... HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
That's the Streisand Effect for you.
The spinless sponsors, whoever they were, that dropped Brandon over this in the first place are most to blame. If they hadn't dropped him, the controversy would have died out long before the coin was created.
One was Larrys Lemonade
@@John-kx3ng I doubt Larry's actually dropped him considering they made LGB merch for cancer and said "Let's Go Brandon" on their website. Though they only did this in the early days of the chant.

It’s funny. Phelps says he “doesn’t want to alienate half the fan base”. Problem is, the NASCAR fan base is probably 80%+ conservative/Trump supporter/Republican. So, by doing this, he pisses off his core fans.
True.
Yeah corporate really is out of touch I'd say more than 80% more like 95% is conservative. They're going to drive the sport into the ground cause guess what? If they keep on the current path new leagues will form and they'll be a hell of a lot cheaper than nascar so the fans will leave.
And those they're trying to appease will never watch Nascar anyway!
@@chrisburgett728 Exactly. The left hates NASCAR, it's fans, and everything it stands for. It's impossible to change the brands image. Once an alternative pops up I can see NASCAR imploding on itself. Maybe it's for the best anyway before it gets any worse than it already is.

If they approved it without looking at closely as they should have, they need to own that. This is such a BS move by them and it's just passing more fans off.
I'd love to see them try and ban Let's Go Brandon because when I was in Phoenix, it was EVERYWHERE. And they're just adding more fuel to that fire here.

The lgb coin sponsor has committed 5 million to the team even though they can't be on the car. So they should be able to make it through the year
NBC should sponsor him as it was their fault for all of this. The chants were going on at many sporting events before that race. They should have stopped track side interviews for the time being for this reason. I firmly believe that Kelli Stavast was told by some high up to play it off that the crowd was chanting “Let’s Go Brandon” to try to trick folks into thinking that’s what was being said even though clearly it wasn’t.

The actual chant had been going on in baseball, hockey, & football stadiums for more the 2 months prior to what happened to Brandon. Every other commentator had just let it go WITHOUT trying to acknowledge it. The interviewer at the race, trying to play it off, & there by cover it up by making it sound like something it wasn't, is what sent this thing to the next level. I am not a fan of politics in sports by those who are making money off it. Like what MLB did with the all star game, NCAA did to NC, kneeling during the national anthem, power fist, etc. those athletes have plenty of PERSONAL time to be political, ask MJ. BUT this was the PAYING PUBLIC. I'm fine with "NO POLITICAL CAMPAIGN " sponsorships. But this is a PRIVATE company, that, whatever the reason for their name, should be allowed to sponsor a car. We are losing sponsors, like M&M/MARS, with very deep pockets & long histories in this sport, so telling companies that WANT to spend money here, when so many teams are on a shoe string budget that they can't get a sponsor is ridiculous. As you pointed out, if you want to dig deep enough, almost EVERY sponsor can be painted as political. This seems to me to be one more example of NASCAR trying to make people that HATE NASCAR happy, so they will be fans, instead of making their ACTUAL PAYING FANS want to continue to pay hard earned money to support the sport they LOVE. It's like when McDonald's, a company that has taken political stands before so under this ruling shouldn't be in NASCAR anymore, changed its menu and certain recipes to "ATTRACT VEGETARIANS ", BECAUSE as we see now, the stores are just packed with new vegetarians & vegans everyday. Oh, wait, that's NOT what happened, their sales went DOWN, and they are still down from where they were be fore they made changes to a HAMBURGER joint to make NON-HAMBUGER eating NON-CUSTOMERS STILL NOT SPEND THEIR MONEY THERE !!!! NASCAR, here's an idea that you should look into. Give your ACTUAL FANS Great racing. Smart, accurate, timely, consistent calls on weather, need I say New Hampshire. GGive us a car that looks like the one on the showroom floor, still can't get that SINGLE lug nut option at the dealership. And make us WANT TO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE SPORT !!!
I agree with you. If you read my comment that I just posted, you'll see my take on the subject.
NASCAR has been dying as a business over the last 20 years losing major sponsors left and right(not politically intended) and it has gotten to the point of teams having to split their season in half with two sponsors sharing the season.
I don't like politics mixed in with my sports. I stopped watching almost all professional sports completely which is sad because I grew up playing organized sports from age 6 into my 40s and used to enjoy going to games and supporting my favorite home teams.
NASCAR should try to keep the politics out but fans and non fans alike are still going to associate brands by their owners political stances. It's a tough spot they got themselves in. But beggars can't be choosers and as the saying goes, even bad publicity is good publicity, in a lot of ways. If controversy is going to increase the number of viewers and bring in more revenue, they should sell sponsorship to the CCP and Russia and the Pope. Let's really make this political and maybe eliminate wars by battling on the track hahahaha
The meme started after Brandon won the Xfinity race. NBC commentator Kelli Stavast was interviewing him at the finish line when fans started screaming "fuck Joe Biden!" Whether it was her idea or a producer in her ear, Stavast said the fans were excited and shouting "Let's go Brandon!" Then it became a meme. NASCAR allowed Bubba Wallace to plaster support for an Anti-American Marxist terrorist organization all over his car a week after the phony noose hoax, so rejecting this sponsor is absolutely despicable.
@@13_13k Yes the fact the USA has become too political is not a good thing and we need to take several thousand steps back on everything in the USA being politized. I am thinking about 5280 feet to be correct (math joke) and take a good look at how we have transformed the USA into Political 100% of the time in the late 1990's on up how we got to where we are at right now with all people calling everything a political movement when some of it is just a movement.
Yes NASCAR since 2007 or 2008 or over 15 years ago became a slowly dying sport yet merging almost all of the paved track Stock Racing leagues in USA/Canada into the NASCAR Fold with ARCA being the last big one to fail and have to merge. I think most modern stock car racing unless racing actual modified stock cars will continue to lose interest with fans due to how the sport is dying off. Also Unless we can make cars also in these sports that 100% do not run on Gas we are domed too have it fail with those younger generations who think the industry is outdated, not with the times. Now I am not saying 100% EV, but they can and Have in some counties went 100% Ethanol with the cars and engines like a country in South America even having some oil for the engine that is some different synthetics they use already in the USA for some companies other type, Quaker state and Shell come to mind on this. Why not make cars like this sure there is other plants one can make the Ethenol from including bypouducts of beets grown for sugar, unused parts of some fuits that are rarely people allergic to, and so on a lot less is needed to do this then EV manufacturing. In fact the first Ford Cars, the Model T engines and pre 1930 Model A were designed to also run using Ethanol or 100 ABV alcohol if the need should arise and no station was nearby, due to the lack of gas stations in the USA. Some older Cast Iron Engines can use or take Ethanol though other parts will get ruined on the engine like the Steel Pistons or the top headers.
The issue here is that corporations are working together to silence free speech. They are all working together as a single corporation (a monopoly) to subvert our rights.

Brandon really should be suing NBC and NASCAR over this, because he didn't deserve any of it. The irony is that in the attempt to cover up what was an inconsequential chant, they ended up promoting it into a more popular movement.
Steve Phelps needs to go
i hated this from the get go, as a very strong brandon brown fan. you said it perfectly, he doesnt have much of an option when it comes to the team and him. his name has dirt on it and it will for a good while. i hate seeing this all go down
He doesn’t deserve this
That reporter is the reason this is happening. If she just ignored the chants, this wouldnt have happened
@Philly Cheesesteak thats just my Republican brethren doin their job
i think NBC should fire Kelli Stavast, since she's the one that said it first instead of just apologizing for the profanity that could be heard from the crowd
i agree that Brandon Brown is the victim here, and his career is likely in jeopardy because of someone else's bullshit
She shouldn't be fired. She had no way to know that would take off. Probably had a producer in her headset telling her to say something.
Why would shebe fired if she's doing her job so well? NBC is out to make repubs look like demons.
blaming the nbc reporter instead of the numpty fans doing it is so fkcing dumb
@@kingsally2864 blaming the fans is stupid too.
no the fans are the victim here because 95% are not woke and cant stand the left and if this sick bunch that runs it cant see that ill never watch again.....
I would personally consider anything as political sponsorship that involves a political campaign for a candidate for office, PAC (political action committee), lobbyist groups, and groups that can be interpreted as political like Black Lives Matter, NRA, ADL, HRC, the Heritage Foundation, Turning Point USA, etc., as well as slogans and phrases with political messages like Blue Lives Matter. Frankly at the end of the day, NASCAR's largely-conservative fan base and even its more liberal fans have shown that they're not mature nor adult enough to handle any kind of political sponsorship or move they see that goes against their own beliefs. Political sponsorship has been a stain on NASCAR for almost 20 years and should've never been allowed in the sport to begin with.
As for Brandon Brown, regardless, he is the one getting shafted here at the end of the day and it's completely unfair considering this whole mess wasn't of his doing. However, I can't also help but see the whole LGB meme coin thing as a scam that played Brandon and his team, knowing NASCAR at the end of the day would not approve them sponsoring BMS's 68 car and drawing NASCAR themselves into a trap, and are only getting themselves involved to seek clout, attention, money, and intentionally increase the divisiveness already existing in both NASCAR and the American political climate.
Since the sponsor was secured and essentially the team got the confirmation from Nascar. I believe that if NASCAR is going to block the sponsor now, they need to pay the team exactly what the sponsor was going to pay
@@johnhaas2523 And he did on a Sunday the day after Christmas. That dude clearly went over his head to approve it
I don't care how it got approved it did then they just back tracked Nascar needs to wake tf up before its no longer a national /TV thing they've been hurting since senior died n Jr retired they need these underdog stories n everytime they make a move it doesn't seem to go well for them
I say if they can have a blm sponsor a trum2020 sponsorship n others than a lgbcoin should be allowed aswell
I'll be honest, I just hate that this all happened in the first place. That start-line interviews are a thing, that people came to a race to voice their political stance instead of celebrating a great underdog moment, how the NBC interviewer twisted the situation that really ignited the shitstorm even more. What should have been an emotional first win for Brandon Brown to celebrate and enjoy was instead taking away from him from something that was completely out of his control.
NASCAR should just return the driver interviews back to victory lane instead of the starting line
At end of season I saw people in my gate at Martinsville wearing those shirts.
NASCAR logo but with that slogan.
I didn’t realize where origin came from.
Thought it was weird, gut said Political.
Well what do you expect from dnbc media mob
This is why we need to keep stupid NASCAR fans away from TV cameras
I don't hate it one bit. Why? Because politics both relevant (such as the politics of the Governing body, race teams, factory outfits, privateers and other constructors) and irrelevant (Domestic and Foreign Governmental Politics) to motorsport has been a thing since the first-ever motor race. It's something one has to deal with. Plus, the only way anyone can avoid a catch-22 situation is to not play the game in the first place. Obviously, NASCAR played the game numerous times by allowing the U.S. Armed Forces (in addition to the U.S. National Guard) to sponsor various teams and entries during the peak of The War on Terror in the 2000s, as well as allowing other political sponsors to do the same either on the cars or in the case of the N.R.A, an entire race, for multiple years, during the peak of pure Autism that was the whole "Gun Control Vs Open/Concealed Carry" flame war in the early-2010s.
In addition, there's nothing sillier during a silly season than Sponsorship Drama (Rich Energy, I'm looking right at you!).
Devil's Advocate: Brandon Brown should sue NBC.
And they'd waste money doing it. NBC didn't force Nascar to do anything.
@@Ka_Gg No, but they threw Brandon under the bus, and haven't even so much as apologized for it.
@@Ka_Gg Media companies can get sued over their coverage. Most recent example is how they had to pay a ton of money to that Trump kid when they claimed he attacked the stolen valor indian dude.
@@nascarfanatic2425 lol "throwing someone under the bus" what legal term does that fall under?
@@DaveSmith-cp5kj that's completely different. NBC didn't defame or libel Brandon. What specifically did they say about Brandon?
You guys act like you can legit sue for anything. I mean you can, but he has no claim against NBC and would lose money.
Here's an idea - Actually support divisive messaging and sponsorships on cars to spur on rivalry and make the sport more exciting. People will turn in to root for the BLM car to beat the LGB car and visa versa for example. Then Nascar itself can truly be above the fray, if they just let the drivers and teams do whatever they want.
Not against that in theory, but it wouldn't work in practice. One, because one side would probably get overwhelmed, abandon and denounce the sport and leave it politically branded for the survivor (which isn't new either, NASCAR is historically conservative); and two, because today, sports fans and political extremists mixed? It would get real ugly, real fast. Mistaken nooses would be the least of Bubba's problems.
@@TugaAvenger IDK it seems to work for the UFC. They are similar to Nascar in that they have a mostly right wing fan base, but fighters can say or do whatever they want and fans are free to cheer or booo it. I feel bad for this guy. I think he was stuck with this sponsor and now he has none. Will his fans even be able to cheer for him if he does well? Is a boy named Brandon as bad as a poor girl named Karen.

How come no one is blaming Kelli Stavast for starting this whole thing. I understand from a journalistic standpoint she was trying to make something positive or "null out" what was actually being chanted. For all we know her producer was telling her to find a way not to draw attention to the fans. Or she could have miss heard what they were saying. Whatever she the reason, Kelli Stavast screwed up royally. I don't usually comment negatively, but in this case all parties involved, NASCAR, Brandonbilt Motorsports, NBC Sports, Brandon Brown, Kelli Stavast just royally screwed this up.
probably because the people in the crowd are the ones to blame?
I agree with that too. There is probably enough blame to go around. The problem is NASCAR didn't deal with it from the beginning. If they had put there foot down regarding any reference or capitalization from it, Matty D and Brandon wouldn't be in the positions they find themselves in now!
Can they afford to ban everything that anyone thinks is political seams like a good way to go out of business
BB racing, should file a civil rights law suite on behalf of LGB [ ? ] community, because of NASCAR'S " interpretation " of the term LGB !
A guy who won his first race has to deal with controversy and a bunch of memes, you gotta feel bad for the guy
The XFL showed us that bush-league sports that do not insult us are still fun. We need to promote non-NASCAR racing.
NBC should be forced to support the team this year
A sposnors will probaly come around
Say what you want about Brian France but he would never turn down sponsorship opportunities
Didn't nascar have a Trump 2020 car? They had the horrible Black Lives Matter organization sponsor a car. An organization that took part in almost a year of rioting in most major cities. You either let it all in or none of it. This whole picking and choosing crap is annoying because we all know it'll be headed towards one way over the other.
I'm just sick of Nascar trying to pander to one group and tell everyone else "good luck".
If it wasn't for Kyle Larson, not sure I'd be watching nascar this year. Nascar is so focused on the dumb small stuff and not focused on calling a race when it's pouring rain, running the garbage 550 package for years (i know, its changing for 2022, but took too long), policing every small infraction like a bunch of karens, etc.
I think I'm going to be watching a whole lot more dirt this season. I've been a nascar fan my whole life, but it just seems like a completely different sport. Hell, 90% of the drivers seem like they were coached by a lawyer to give answers.
Something doesn't add up....
1. The Nascar paint scheme platform.... inactive for 2022 when Brandon built made the intial submit.
2. The "emails" from a Nascar racing operation person saying that the sponsor is approved... only comment on the car design.
3. Did Nascar do any research before the intial "approving".
4. Nascar "approving the sponsor" first; then back tracking to say that they were still reviewing it even though they had no intention to approve it. (And only saying that after the Brandon built and company announced it)
realistically LGB coin is just another grift. he deserves a better sponsor. Just like he doesn’t deserve people chanting his name because the people chanting it are too afraid to say what they want to say ‘ cause they’re five.
You mean the NBC reporter? Everyone knows they were chanting FJB not LGB. The entire reason LGB exists was because she created it to cover up the chant.

You could also blame the people chanting as well. Let’s be honest this all started because of adults acting like children.
It's technically not a political sponsorship
The easiest way to have a clean definition with as little grey as possible would be to not have Political campaigns, slogan, or propaganda.
That keeps out BLM, Back the Blue, LGB coin, Trump, Biden, etc but should allow most corporations to sponsor regardless of their political interests.
With that definition in place, the biggest grey area would be the NRA. I'd probably put them as a no as they are a political group in many ways.
I feel like none of this would of happened if NASCAR stopped doing the Front Stretch Interviews.. especially at Talladega out of all places. That's what started all the complete mess
None of it would of happened if the alt-right people didn't chant "FJB" that caused the confusion and the reporter thought they were saying "LGB" now he is sponsorless because they just had to add on to the polotics in nascar and sports

All I'll say about this is that Kelly Savast (I think that's her name) should take responsibility for what has happened. Had she not said "Let's go Brandon" when she interviewed Brandon, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
So bubba can run a burn loot murder sponsor but Brandon can't run a lgb sponsor
I think Brandon Brown should take and american way and sue, sue, sue Nascar, if BLM is allowed, other political statements, so should this be. Nascar is really in between rock and a hard place, many major sponsors are liberal, nbc is liberal but the watching faithful base is probably very republican. They will either loose major sponsors and tv money to the point where they might have stockcar or rally racing budgets, or turn away the watching public and stop existing all together.
The nail was struck squarely on the head with Brandon Brown and his team get screwed either way sadly. Not sure what good options he has to get a sponsor in all this. What I am worried about is what happens if LGBcoin doesn't pay out. If it turns out to be a scam, and there are a lot of scams in the crypto space right now, that's going to be devastating for the team and will only do further damage to Brandon's career.
It probably is a scam
