The Most Dominant Team In Modern NASCAR History

- We have seen specific drivers dominate NASCAR like Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex, Jr., and Kyle Busch but sometimes there are entire teams that are ridiculously fast and end up taking control of the sport for some spans of time. That is what Hendrick Motorsports managed to do in 2007 in the Cup Series. Between having a new car, new format, and tough competition HMS managed to put together one of the most dominant seasons for an organization in all of NASCAR history. This is the most dominant team in modern NASCAR history.

What team do you view as the most dominant NASCAR organization in a season in the last 40 years?
Hendrick or gibbs
Hendrick
JGR 2019
HMS
Roush 2005 Hendrick 2007 and Gibbs 2019
I hate how Jeff Gordan didnt get the titles he deserved because of the playoff/ chase format it's just dumb man honestly
Jeff Gordon had largest points lead anyone has ever had in the modern era by the Coke 600 as well
Oh that's right
Casey Mears was like the middle child of the family with Hendricks lol
Imagine being able to go back to 2007 and tell a random fan that Jimmie Johnson would go winless the last 3 years of his career
They probably wouldn't have believed that Johnson would win five championships in a row, or would have tied Earnhardt and Petty with seven total championships, either. I know I wouldn't have.
They would have told you that you were fucking crazy.
I mean sure man, when you get old your competitiveness drops and you just can’t race like you used to. It happens to everyone, even Jimmie Johnson, 5 year old Jimmie Johnson fan me would’ve even probably understood that to some extent.
Or that Jeff Gordon would be stuck at 4 championships for the last 13 years of his career
Imagine going to 2001 and telling us gordon fans hed never win another title before retiring 14 years later in 2015
Fun fact: After the crash at Spring Talladega, Mears was on the cutoff for the Top 35. A Hendrick car was in jeopardy of missing races
"The trucks were, well. The trucks."
Sheldon Creed: "Am I a joke to you?"
Didn't he only get like 3 wins
@@supertornadogun1690 5 Actually, and remember the truck series schedule is only 23 races.
GMS Racing in general was dominant.
@Zero Two No, this was his second full time season. Still impressive
@Zero Two 2019 was his rookie year. He won the championship in his second year.
HMS had 15+ straight years of dominance.... so his assessment is still valid. Yes, JGR had a dominant 2019 season, but not a dominant legacy
I think you give HMS the 90s, maybe a slight lead into the 2000s, but the 2010s you have to go JGR. After 2010 you has Edwards, Kenneth, Hamlin and Busch winning or top 5 everywhere. Jimmie was winning some, but mostly cruising in the summer until the playoffs. Jr won a few superspeedway races. Gordon wasn't winning anymore, the 5 car was pretty a non competitor.
@@ThorneyGryffon Jeff won a bunch in 2014 the year before retirement.

I think that in 2021 and beyond, we could see another Hendrick dominance similar to 2007, 2009, or 2014. They have the drivers they need to fill in the old rolls.
Elliott = Johnson
Larson = Gordon
Bowman = Ky Busch
Byron = Kahne/Martin
We have a real powerhouse team in the works. Maybe not in 2021, but for sure a few years down the line.
Elliott may win more especially with all the road courses
Byron is the real wildcard here. He could be like a Mears/Vickers type, or if he gets his feet under him after teaming up with he crew chief from his year in trucks, we're possibly looking at something terrifying
@Nate Hubbard Mears is better because you need more talent to win at Charlotte than Daytona
Bold assessment basing this strictly off potential. The Old Hendricks Powerhouse was proven and I doubt these 4 even come close to such a run of dominance
@@thetechfromheaven lol and Byron just won Homestead yesterday
Seeing the old Phoenix finish line fills me with joy.
Why must you remind Gordon fans of the other championship that got away
I’m sadistic lol
Pain :(
Definitely should of had at least 7 😐
Yes I remember the pain still hurts along with 2014 and 2015
@@TheDthatcher Do not remind me of 2015. That win at Martinsville then losing Phoenix. ughhhhh
Not to mention that Gordon set the modern era record of 30 top 10 finishes in 36 races. Hendrick also dominated with two different generations of race cars. Was a great year to be a Gordon fan minus the ending lol.
I surely remember the 2007 season. I was so happy to see Jeff Gordon win the first Phoenix night race after being disappointed that he didn't win Martinsville.. 😅
It's so weird now hearing it being called California Speedway instead of Auto Club Speedway lol
Hendrick, Stewart-Haas, Penske, and Gibbs are the best right now!
Penske tho?
LOL that’s half the field and all the competitive teams
I guess RCR, Roush Fenway and Chip Ganassi are in the bubble between the top teams and the midfield dogs
The only reason shr is relevant is because of harvick
@@votekyle3000 Penske was half of the final four this year with 8 wins.
I was almost expecting to see 1998 mentioned, where Jeff Gordon won 13 races and together with Mark Martin won 20/33 races
Jeff and Mark combined for a total of 60% of the races won that year, something only done 2 other times, 1 time in the 70s and 1 time in the 1980s (i domt remember exact numbers though)
@@JackTheripper911 unless I'm mistaken, 1982 was the one you're thinking about, Darrell Waltrip and Bobby Allison
18 Hendrick wins in 36 races...
Jeff Gordon had an all-time great season with 6 wins, 21 top 5s, 30 top 10s & an average finish of 7.3.
Jeff Gordon scored a 5th place average finish in The Chase with 2 wins, 6 top 5 finishes, 9 top 10s with his worst finish being 11th.
Only Johnson could match Gordon with his Chase hot streak, which led to 4 consecutive wins.
With Johnson winning 10 races, he & Gordon combined to win 16 races in the season.
Truly, a dominant season for Hendrick.
That’s less wins than JGR 2019
@@lurkintomgaming397 JGR was impressive but Hendrick did it with 2 different types of cars. Hendrick was more impressive as a result.
I love that Kyle Busch was called great at 19 but he finished 21st in points his rookie year but meanwhile 2016 at 19 with the same crew Chief Chase Elliott finished 10th in points and ran twice as good and crashed alot less.
Kyle had a hell of a lot more competition than Chase and Kyle wasn't just handed a top flight ride on namesake the #5 cars always been jinxed and the ugly red headed step child of Hendrick why the hell you think he got the hell outta Dodge. And untill chase wins 200 Nascar races shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as kyle again as the talent level is nowhere close Bush albeit an asshole is gonna go down as one of the Absolute best to ever do it love or hate him. Chase while off to a decent start has a long ways to go to match kyle in any context

My favorite season of ALL TIME. Was pulling for Gordon to win it all 100%
He would’ve won most likely without the chase
HMS has to be, for their longevity. JGR had a great season with 19 wins, but that was sustained only 1-2 seasons, whereas HMS lasted from mid 90s to late 2000s, and was still winning regularly up to 2016. I feel because they had a bad 4 year stretch doesn't take away their 93 wins with JG, 84 with JJ, and 11 championships between the 2.
Don’t hate on JGR they kicked ass those seasons
You are really pumping out the content this month man, bravo on that! This channel is great and very entertaining, happy to be a subscriber.
I remember in 2007 with cot, you knew the winner was going to Jeff Gordon or Jimmie Johnson
Hendrick Motorsports lineup in 2007:
Jeff Gordon: *STONKS*
Jimmie Johnson: *CHAMPIONSHIP*
Kyle Busch: *TALENT*
Casey Mears: *Oh.....*
Basically
JGR 2019 won more races, but one could argue that the 24&48 Building was the most dominant teammate duo in history, that building alone won 16 Races in 2007
Never understood how the 24 team had 30 top tens out of 36 races and still not win the championship
Because the chase was garbage.
The last time all 4 Hendrick drivers won was in 2014, let's hope that can happen again this season!
Amen brother I believe they are going to have a great year.

Well then
13 Championships in the past 30 years? Those are Yankees/Patriots numbers.
With their 2021 season the way it was, I have a feeling that this Hendrick Motorsports is back on its way!
This video also showed us that there’s absolutely *no reason* that Atlanta, Fontana (R.I.P.), and Phoenix had their night races taken away.
If you include everything, SHR in 2020 was pretty close, along with JGR in 19, but as a whole, definitely Hendrick, especially when you consider the longevity. They have, what, 12 or 13 Cup championships total. That's damn near 33% in the last 40 years

2007 is the year I always go back to. Amazing daytona 500, my first trip to Bristol, one of the best battle of teamates between Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon’s most successful season since I began seriously following nascar in 2004 and Chevy absolutely destroying everyone winning 26 of the 36 Races that season.
Another thing to note, was how many times they finished in the top 5 and 10. Jeff Gordon finished in the top 10 in 30!!! of the 36 races. Hendrick Motorsports had 84 top 10s in 144 starts. Plus the stats from Gordon, Johnson and Busch were absolutely incredible.
Jimmie Johnson 10 wins 20 top 5s 24 top 10s Average Finish of 10.75 4 Poles 1,289 Laps Led
Jeff Gordon 6 wins 21 top 5s 30 top 10s Average Finish of 7.33 7 Poles 1,300 Laps Led
Kyle Busch 1 win 11 top 5s 20 top 10s Average Finish of 14.08 0 Poles 637 Laps Led

Hendrick 2021: hold my beer
Problem is Hendricks legacy hasn’t been that great as of late, yes Elliot won the ship but that was the only consistent driver they had for the past few years 2020 excluded due to how crazy it was! Any way it will be very interesting to see this JGR vs Hendrick rivalry in the next decade!
First 2 that come to mind are obv 2004 and 2007 Hendrick.
Hendrick hasn't stopped innovating and probably won't stop anytime soon. They basically pioneered the modern pit crew.
jimmie johnson was just so good man .... incredible race car driver
That was a lot of fun to watch and I’m not an HM fan , but it was just fun watching back @ all those Wins the past 20years. Wowzerz
Jimmie Johnson was the worst thing for the sport. Winning 5 straight sucked balls.
Especially from that Hendrick. OG race fans are not trying to hear that BS.

Jeff Gordon
Kyle Busch
Jimmie Johnson
Dale Earnhardt Jr
