Ray Manzarek's keyboard playing on The Doors iconic track "Riders On The Storm" has always been a major inspiration for me. So when Rhodes approached me recently and asked if I wanted to recreate a classic track using their new Rhodes keyboard plugin, I knew exactly what song I wanted to do!

This generation can't remember any lyrics without a phone or tablet. Kind of sad
I heard this when it came out. I was 13, and I used to listen to Radio Luxembourg in bed at night. I'd listen under my pillow so my parents wouldn't hear it and come in and switch it off. When I heard this in a darkened room, it was very exciting and just a little bit scary.
I remember hearing it when I was very young as well, and immediately falling in love with it despite it being pretty spooky. I'd never heard anything quite like it before (and frankly haven't ever since.)
Yes, listening to Radio Luxemburg in bed ... I also remember this time, before "video killed the radio star"! Although: The sound quality of medium frequency AM broadcasting was of coarse quite poor; I think when "Riders on the Strom" was released (in 1971 according to Wikipedia, when I was 17), I probably only listened to Swiss and German broadcasting stations using VHF FM. So I can't actually remember when I heard the song for the first time; but meanwhile it is my absolute favorite of all songs by the Doors.

I got into The Doors 25 years later as a 15 y/o. Head phones on, lights off, bon voyage....
'71 was a truly amazing year for durable music: Gordon Lightfoot "If You Could Read My Mind", Janis Joplin "Me and Bobby McGee", Ike & Tina Turner "Proud Mary", Jethro Tull
"Aqualung", Marvin Gaye "What's Going On" , Three Dog Night "Joy To The World" , Rolling Stones "Brown Sugar", Rock Opera "Jesus Christ Superstar", Carole King
"It's Too Late, Baby", Ringo Starr "It Don't Come Easy", Carly Simon "That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be", Emerson Lake & Palmer "Tarkus" - and that's just the first six months ! The biggest items were still to come... (Roundabout, Stairway to Heaven, Won't get Fooled Again, etc etc, all released before the end of '71)
I liked this song so much I went to my local record shop and I asked "What have you got by The Doors?" The shop assistant said: "A bucket of sand and a fire blanket.”

Fantastic reproduction of one of my favorite songs! Even the vocals sound just like Jim Morrison.
I believe Jim’s whispered vocal track was the last thing he recorded with the Doors. It was definitely the last song all 4 members of the band were involved with.
Also weird to think that Jim never got to perform this live, in fact I believe that he never got to hear the whole of LA woman as the mix was completed after he left for France where he passed away. Let me know if I’m wrong, saw a doc quite a few years ago so…..

My mom actually met Ray Manzarek while she was a waitress in San Francisco, he seemed like a nice, soft-spoken guy and my mom got his autograph! Don't know where it is today sadly.

After watching any of your videos I was sure it would be a good recreation of the keyboard part, what I didn't expect was a whole recreation of the song and it being *THAT* good that even the vocals are convincing without being an impression.
I'm a big Doors fan and kind of picky when it comes to covers and tributes but I can listen to this one over and over without guilt XD

Riders is my favorite song by the Doors. That keyboard intro also inspired me to learn piano, too! It’s so inspirational and sounds like sunlight hitting a glass of water. You made it sound just as graceful as the real thing and more. Great job as always, keep up the good work!
