Thanks for the nostalgia hit! Gonna go check my old box of TCG stuff, I'm sure I had a Bolshack Dragon in there somewhere!

Oh, that's awesome! It occurred to me after opening all these that I probably had most of the full set, maybe I'll try to track down the last cards I need.

The more I think about and learn about TCGs, the more I realize Duel Masters really had something with the shield system and general gameplay, and the more I play Digimon, the more I realize it's really the Duel Masters 2 I've been wanting. Almost every card does something coming out of security, even if it's just a Digimon trying to strike back at an attacker, but most Options and Tamers tend to get full or increased value out of being checked. Card flow is really good because so many cards search the topdeck and evolving draws you a card, and the resource system is really engaging and gets around the annoying "I have to put cards I would've played out of the game to generate resources" problem all "use cards as established resources" games have.

For sure, there's so much about Digimon's design as a game that I love. The memory mechanic itself is something that really caught my attention, it's such a cool idea.
I do like how mana is handled in Duel Masters as well, though. Turning any card in your hand into a "land" is a neat way to do it, although I could see why some people might not like it. Makes me think of Magic's flip lands, which I make heavy use of.

@@CommodoreCards I think both "you put resource cards in your deck" and "you put cards in your hand as a resource" methods are pretty equally acceptable. A lot of people seem to think hand resource beats deck resource easily but I think they both come with their own problems. People are so quick to say "well with using any card as a resource you never brick or flood", but then you sit them down and give them a hand full of cards they want to play, and suddenly they wish one of those cards just said "this is +1 resource and nothing else".
What really fucks me up is that Lorcana has hand resource, but because of the fact that some cards can be inked and some can't, some people recommend you put cards in your deck solely to be inked...meaning they just changed Lorcana to deck resource! They just put lands in Lorcana! What are you guys DOING!?
Anyway, memory i think is truly, genuinely fascinating, seems to play super well (I'm only just getting into the game for real now, I haven't actually played much yet, just watched people play), and is by far the first time I have ever looked at a TCG resource system and thought "hmm...this might be the one to watch. This could actually beat both of the main previous ways we've been doing it". And I think that's extremely impressive.

@@StarkMaximumBeing unable to USE resources for yourself without GIVING resources to your opponent creates a very intriguing gameplay loop, I like it a lot.
