U know. Before this i dont love plants. Im not a plants lover. But after watching ur video with no purpose what so ever. I begin to buy a plants. Day by day i buy one by one. Now i have 9 plants in my house and 6 more are on the way from online shop. I began buying things like soils, cocopeat, rice husk blablabla which i never knew or care before but now im buying it like im an expert. I dont know whats happening to me. It was ur fault and i want my house green as yours. 😂
Same here! Let’s blame him. For me, I added around 20 new plants in only 3 months I subscribed his channel. So have 40+ species right now in my tiny 44sqm apartment 😂. All his fault, but also thanks to Jan, he gave everything I need to know on how to understand my environment, which type of plants, even type of pots, and care routines. So, thanks, Jan! ❤
That's how it starts! You start out with just buying a couple of plants, no big deal. Then one day you look up and there are so many that you can no longer see your furniture! There's no going back after that! And unless you're independently wealthy already, you will be broke all the time now. Do yourself a favor and learn how to propagate so you can make some of your money back.

when I first heard "Summer" I was like: It is damn February!... Then I remembered that the seasons are upsidedown between the northen and the southern hemisphere! lol
The No ID plant should officially be named the Philodendron Sydney Plant Guy
I think from the shape of the leaves and colour of the stem, it could be a hybrid of either Philodendron Sagittifolium or Sanctamartinense with something that has a more glossy thick leaf.

Jan, you are the most consistent plant parent I’ve seen. I love your outlook on being realistic & having the plants growing in the environment that’s comfortable for you. If you were to try & make each plant grow in the “ideal” environment, it wouldn’t work. You have to be happy & comfortable in order to take care of so many plants. Great job on your journey & thanks to taking us (sometimes ungrateful) ppl along.

Hey Jan, your apartment is a beautiful jungle. I now have several moss poles and my plants are growing beautifully. They’re like children, the moss poles need attention and love( maintenance) ❤️❤️. They’re getting bigger everyday and spring is coming soon here in the US. I’m almost at my 2nd extend with several of them. They r getting too big thanks to you! Thanks for your time and expertise.

I’m glad you pointed out that variegation is not (typically) impacted by light levels. There are types of variegation that are environmentally impacted (paraiso verde are well known for this) but albo type variegation is completely dependent on genetics. If the new growth point is in green stem, then you will get a green leaf regardless of light levels. I will say that light can impact how that variagation appears in some plants. For example, you put a marble queen pothos in low light and it will look more minty. Put it in high light and it will have whiter variagation.
I live on the other side of the state with 20% humidity so I have humidifiers all over the place to keep it at 60-70% but mine don't grow anywhere near as much as yours, even with GT fertilisers. And how can you not love crawlers? Mine eclipse the room with gorgeousness. I look at it as caring for Nature and they're a beautiful part of it. To each there own. I've learned heaps from you Jan. Thank you. 🙏

I like your channel. Especially I like your idea of chop of extend.
So I wanted to try it by myself (please excuse my language mistakes, I`m German).
There are plastic lattices to put in horizontal rain pipes. 1m in length curled up in diameter of about 8cm without any fixing. About 9€ a piece. I bought 2 of them and used them for my plants. Seems a lazy approach to me.
Shout out to the adansonii just throwing white. Got one in my cabinet too and it's a struggle! 😰
I have a small house and spent the last 10 years decluttering and purging my hoard. I have purged about 80% of junk. A couple of years ago, I started my plant journey. However, I don't want my house to get out of hand with the plants. I have to have vacant space now for my mental health. So, growing vertical is perfect for me. I tried putting plants outside in the summer, but the bugs were an issue. I have about 25 plants. I also don't like my windows full of plants. I will put a couple in the windows, but i get more light in my rooms with windows free.

I just bought my first one recently and had been wanting one for ages. I just love her sooooo much. Definitely obsessed with the stingray leaves. Just gorgeous and she has popped out 3 new leaves in the last months. So very exciting and just a pleasure to watch. I so get your enthusiasm amd love for your Ellie. I never thought plants could give me so much joy but I really enjoy just hanging out with my plants!! I find it so funny lol. My stingray is absolutely at the top of my favorites list. I can't wait till it gets to the size of yours!!! I will be so happy 😊

Jan, you should try putting a crawler on a D shaped pole filled with your reg substrate and see what happens 😂 will it really know the difference?! especially once its roots are growing in the pole? If you let one grow on the pole while the pole is horizontal on the ground, and then stand it up once the roots are attached and the substrate has densed up bit through watering, I feel that it might just work!

The Lindenii one on the balcony is a Xanthosoma used to be Caladium. Great collection still can t get over how lush it is.

In the rainforest pyramid at Moody Gardens, there are cebu blue that are 60 feet tall.. they have no blue in the mature foliage.
Your Dioscorea discolor is lovely - front and back. Dioscorea's are notorious for being fast growers and then going through a dormant phase. In the USA there are plenty of Dioscorea's that are growing wild in the deep South (USDA Zones 8 - 11 tropical) that are labeled as invasive plants by the States they now reside in. There are plenty of vegetable/fruit plants that are pretty or unusual looking enough to be used as outdoor bedding plants like bloody sorrel (Rumex sanguinous), purple bush bean and walking onion.
Canna 'Cleopatra' is a chimera.
Jan, you are fortunate to not have dust mite, pet or fungus spore allergies. Over 50% humidity creates ideal conditions for dust mite and fungus growth which is really bad for people with respiratory allergies. 30% humidity is on the low side but not so low that you can get very dry skin and a bloody nose.
House dust mites have specific environmental requirements for their development. The mites tend to be most numerous in warm homes with high humidity. Optimum conditions for growth and development are around 75 - 80 degrees F (24 - 27 degrees C) and 70 - 80 percent relative humidity. House dust mites absorb and lose moisture through their skin, and are very vulnerable to dehydration. Consequently, humidity levels within the home have a significant effect on survival. Dust mites cannot survive well at relative humidities below 50 percent. Although mite populations tend to be low in dry climates, most homes throughout the United States are capable of supporting dust mites. House dust mites and their allergenic particles are present within homes year round, but people tend to have fewer symptoms during the summer, perhaps because they spend more time outdoors.
A dehumidifier is needed for people with dust mite and mold spore allergies.

I am such a proud plant mom. Lol. I purchased a Monstera in a 4.5 inch pot (about 11cm) on the sale table at my grocery store and have been so worried about it. I’ve been rewarded with a new leaf growing! I could just burst with the excitement. I can only aspire to what you have but I’ve managed not to kill a plant that isn’t pothos so there is always hope for me!

Hi Jan :)...I spent my late evening watching your tour.....and started it back up this morning to finish the tour up! Love plant tours :) and love yours! As was the first video I watched of yours! Like the balcony part.....happy to see your maranta are loving it out there.....I will have to put mine out this summer.....I can not get them to be happy.....I grew a red one 12 years ago, from a starter gift from a workmate, it was big and pretty, and than took a nose dive....so I have a couple of common ones and.....they are a bit annoying :) Enjoy the end of summer! Your Queen is amazing....I have 1 leaf :) I am greatful....so hopefully this spring and summer it keeps going. Anthurium water day today....100K right around the corner....can you believe it? Ok thanks Jan....and Brad....he is loving those belly rubs :)

I have four cats who all love plants as well, and it's kind of interesting because I have several that are very toxic to cats that it would only take a small amount and they could make them very sick, and they'll sniff it and they're rub their face on it but they won't bite it. In fact they don't bite or chew or mess with in a way that could cause them harm any of the poisonous ones actually the only ones they choose strangely enough are the ones that aren't poisonous so somehow they know somehow they can tell I don't know if maybe they bit into it and there's a flavor or if there's a smell, but the only thing I have to worry about my cats with is in the big pots they want to lay down and try to sleep and if there's soil on top they'll try to use it like a cat box which has definitely killed plants before but I just put some rocks in there and some mulch And it usually works fine, we also got a bunch of these little figurines that are meant to decorate like fish tanks and reptile tanks and stuff, and placed them all into the big pot so if they tried to lay down they would lay on these pointy little figurines and it would be uncomfortable.
I have a different blockia in particular that I had saved from clearance, that was pretty rough looking at the plant head been broken, but I got it for like three bucks and it was still a very large, anyway, it took like a month before I started seeing any new gross on that poor thing, because every single day before I got some rocks put in it, I would get home and the cat would be asleep in the pot, and I don't know why but rolled over to lay against the plant so it kept making the plant lean at like a 45° angle. Lol
I have a big croton That one cat inparticular loves to lay in, that diffenbachia that another cat loves to lay in, and for some reason all cats are particularly attracted to my ficus Benjamina, and one of my small leaf calathias, ( I can't remember what species it is but it looks like a ctenanthe. )
That calalthia that I was talking about, it's a clearance save that was getting over watered at Lowe's, took it home, broke it down put it in a pot with drainage in a nice new chunky soil mix, trimmed off a bunch of the old dead leaves and got it looking nice again, and literally within hours, and that poor thing keeps getting knocked over by cats it's The only plant ships like on its own designated plant stand in front of the main window that looks out at the street, so my two dogs will often try to look out the window and then the process bumps the calathea. But it's literally the perfect spot for it so I don't want to move it. But yeah that poor thing has got the worst of it. And my big croton has taken a tumble once because of it.
So yeah that's my issue, cats sleeping in the plants and dogs knocking over plants trying to look out the window.
So how I have the majority of my plans to range is in front of the big front window It doesn't get quite as much light as I would like but it's enough for most of the plants to survive and not get laggy or have problems the rest of them are going in from Northeast south and west facing windows depending on what the plant is anyway so I have a big wood rack that holds I don't 30 plants or so and then the other 15 or so are scattered around in front of other windows, and then I also have two kids who each have six or eight plants, most of them are all in one pot in a big succulent arrangement that I made each of them and then they each have their own dysregular house plants unfortunately the window in my son's room is the best window for plants in the house It's not very big but it is just perfect life so my poor son is going to end up having to share his room with plants lol.

in my experience the light increases the variegation, even kick starts it in plants that have lost it... my albo almost turned green, and changing the light made it very very white... just my experience
Can vouch, someone planted ornamental yams in my back yard in New Orleans and they take over my jasmine every year. For the past three years I have been cutting everything back and digging up the bulbs. They're a menace in the wild :/
Hi Jan. In my experience alocasias like to be up potted and stop putting new leaves when the pot is not big enough anymore. I would try to put the Jacklyn and the cuprea on slightly bigger pots. Mine usually put new leaves soon after that :)

Hi Jan! Your plants are magnificent, as usual! I wanted to put something out there and see if other people have had this experience. Whenever I expose my albo variegata plants to higher sunlight, it does not increase the amount of variegation, but it does keep the variegated parts of the plant pristine and white rather than them turning brown. Anyone else?

Your plants are gigantic! So many people like these delicate little plants everywhere but I want fewer but larger plants. The only issue for large plants is watering them. I prefer to keep my plants in their nursery pots placed in a decorative planter. I then lift out the nursery pot, take it to the sink and water it well and let is drain fully. My plants love the south facing window of my sun porch but we have an overhang on our condo building which ends up protecting them from too much son.
I have a huge amount of monsteras in my backyard which is a little tropical forest remains in Rio de janeiro mountains. I would never need to put one of those inside my living room lol 😂 But watching yours gave me a urgent need to bring them inside . Great channel! Thank you ❤ Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷

Hey Jan! Do you have a philodendron hastatum? (silver sword) Im a sucker for blue plants, and this one takes the cake. Even upon maturity the leaves get very arrow shaped and it retains it pronounced blue color. Plus, it tends to stay fairly compact here. How do you feel about blue plants? :)
Im super shocked that the Stuttgart hasn't burned with all that variegation in full sun. I have the cleopatras here along with tropicana in the landscape. They can be a bit aggressive / invasive if they aren't maintained every couple of years. Cleopatra doesn't have stable variegation which is why its sometimes green or red, or both. Its chaotic variegation. If you cut the old blooms off where seeds begin to grow it helps to encourage branching and additional flowers! :)
