New Istanbul Airport The short Connection

  • Istanbul short Connection is for passengers with less then 90 minutes to connecting flight. But do keep in mind, that its not shorter in terms of distance, men it will lead you to a fast track security check. So you will have to walk or run the whole distance.
    But, Istanbul Airport has an easy layout and design, so it prette easy to find your gate.
    I do recommend to have enough time between your flights, it can be really exhausting to run, like I did, from Gate F15 to Gate B15. I will update this video, and measure the distance.
    But, look out for more videos about and from Istanbul Airport in the future.
    Here is a link to the first video about the New Istanbul Airport Transit

    A short update. I do say in the video that the Short Connection isn’t shorter in terms of distance. That is sort of correct, but it can be shorter and very short, if you arrive at e.g gate A, and your connecting flight is leaving from Gate B, then it will be shorter since you don’t have to go to the ordinary security check that is located in sort of the middle of the airport.
    So, to be clear, the Short Connection will be shorter in time, but not always in distance. And the Short Connection do save you some time, since you don't have to go one floor down for the ordinary security check and up again. So if you are eligible to use the short connection, I do recommend you to use it, because its a timesaver.

      @JustinThailand  Před 2 lety +1

      Normally 1 hour is enough. I have done a lot of transits since that video, and my shortest transit from arrival to departure gate is only 10 minutes. But, with some delays and arrival and departure gate far from each other, it can be tough to reach in time. I have not travelled via Istanbul during the Covid19 so I don't know how it is there right now. But for 1 hour transit, you are eligible to use the short connection, and if the gates are near to each other, it will be quick. Istanbul is a lovely and nice airport, so you will have no problem spending some waiting time there. Many great restaurants and shops :)

    Hi Justin, here is what happened. When the boarding passes were issued in Cairo, the Istanbul transfer pass was blank and we were told to go to the gate. I was not clear what that meant. Once I got off the plane, I was looking for the fast track transit security and instead ended up with the mass millions to get thru security(luckily the line was short) and once past that, when I arrived at the gate(had to figure that out since the boarding pass did not have the gate number, We were in the D terminal), when thru security again before boarding the plane. I finally figured out that had I gone to the gate instead, I would have the one security before boarding and that would have saved me time. It will take you the Fast Track Security Check, and from there you take the lift down, and you just walk to the gate where your flight is departing from. I just came through Istanbul yesterday morning, and if you walk at normal speed, not fast, but normal speed, you will use about 30 minutes from the end of Gate F to the end of Gate B. So you will probably use less then 30 minutes. If your flight is late the Airport Ground Staff will probably meet you at the gate and guide you through the airport and to your flight. Better safe then sorry :) they normally start the boarding 40-45 minutes before actual departuretime, So i would take 1 hr there. No luggage save you some time, and since this is a transit, you probably have the boardingpass already. So when i did this it tokk me very short time from the moment i arrived the airport and until i was inside. But you will have to go through security and passport controll. So to be sage i would probably pluss 1 more hour. So 2 hour before should be enough :)

    Last November 2019, I arrived at this airport from London Heathrow and my connecting flight was just over and hour. It was my first time at Istanbul. Just past Jetway we were greeted by shouting ground staff who demanded our onward boarding passes, and they screamed our gate numbers at us. When I asked for direction they just waved their hands wildly.
    So I proceeded in the in the wrong direction for over ten minutes , then I realized I was not making progress and turned around and my way through the terminal which doesn't have conveyors and is as long as the high street in some small country towns.
    I go onto escalators and conveyors fearing all the while that the young people running by won't knock me down but this, fortunately, only came close to happening.
    I arrived at the gate just in time to board with a restless crown of fellow travelers and almost lost my passport while finding my seat.
    Mysteriously, I did not go through security. No airline should have to shout or make passengers run to catch their flight. Ii's simply poor service.

      The transfer process is the same. It almost happened to me :) Arrived at F 7 and departure from F 14, and the whole transit took me under 10 minutes. Here is the thing if the gates are next to each other. Scenario 1 - If your connecting flight is leaving in less than 90 minutes, you are eligble to use the «short connection», and you just go through the fast track security check, take the lift one floor down, and you are at your gate :) Scenario 2 - you have more than 90 minutes to your connecting flight. You will have to follow the original route. That mean you will have to go to the ordinary security checkpoint. When you exit the plane, you will be on the upper floor, and the boarding is one floor down, and the only access is through one of the security checks.

    • @JustinThailand
      @JustinThailand  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi, and not worry :) 1 hour is enough time to get you to the next flight. I did a new transit in Istanbul 2 days ago, and used the short connection, and it took me only 12 minute from I got off the plane until I was at the gate. The short way to reach the gate is by follow the pink signs saying "Short Connection", that will bring you to the Fast Track security, and from there you just take the lift one floor down, and you just start walk out to your gate. If you then have to walk through the whole airport, even with your 19 month old son, you will have enough time to do so. If you are unlucky and get the same transit I had, Gate F 15 and to walk over to B15, you still gonna have enough time. You will use, by walking, not running, about 35 minutes. Where do you arrive from, and where are you going, and what airline do you use ?

      @@lhamolingtsang2498 Ok, Turkish Airlines normally land ahead of schedule, so I don't think you will have any problem reaching the gate in time. This airport is a disaster...I missed 2 times my connection... problem.. nobody is talking English.... The gates did change .so when my plane landed ..they were boarding for my next Flight!. You need at least 2 hours between flights when you are booking on line. From international to domestic flights takes to much time. The time boards should also be adjusted...they have to solve many problems. train your staff to help people who are in transfer!

      Hi, and thanks for your feedback. Well, I sort of have to agree with you on this. Lately, something changed at this airport. I used to love Turkish Airlines and Istanbul Airport, but there have been several episodes lately making me not like either the airport or Turkish Airlines that much anymore. You can see my video when I lost me connecting flight here ---> czcams.com/video/QoNQW72fVyk/video.html . On my last travel with Turkish there was so many problem with my ticket I almost gave up. They kept changing the flight times, and they made it hard for me to reschedule. I came back from that trip yesterday, and Im not flying Turkish Airlines for a while now because of this. I also have an ongoing case at the Norwegian Complaint Board about Turkish Airlines. So im not impresses with this company anymore. My next trip will be Emirates, working on new videos from Dubai Airport.
