  • How to Fix a broken jack that won't lift under load or leaks! In this video, I will be showing you the universal fix for a broken floor jack that won't lift my car anymore. I will show you how to bleed your jack as well as stop the jack from leaking and refill the hydraulic oil.
Don't throw away your out-of-warranty floor Jack I will be working on a Pittsburgh 1.5-ton floor jack but this will work on any floor jack to my knowledge including 2-ton and 3-ton jacks.
My jack would only lift a few inches before I fixed it and now it will lift my car again.
I also show you how to fix leaky jacks with either Stop Leak or a new O-ring. This will work with Sears, Craftsman, Walker, Lincoln, Hein Werner, Matco, Snap-on, and any other hydraulic Jack
    SKU List: 2015, 2150, 328.12000, 328.12001, 328.12002, 328.12020, 328.12040, 328.12041, 328.12160, 328.12170, 71200, AM0226F, AM200F, AM200MF, TM200F, TM200MF, YM150M 64545, 64552, 64832

pro tip: on the last bleed push the handle to the ground before inserting the drain bolt. This allows enough space in the cylinder for the handle to be parallel to the ground with the jack let out all the way.

"I didn't trust it to not fall on me".
    That's always true.
If you own a floor jack, you should also own (and use) jack stands. The jack should never be used to support the car, only to raise it enough to put it on the jack stands.

Thanks a million! The manual for this exact jack in the video incorrectly instructs you to bleed through the fill hole (which is how you do it on most hydraulic jacks). 3 unsuccessful attempts to bleed via the fill hole, where it would only take 10-15 drops oil. The bleed screw was the key. Took 1/3 bottle of hydraulic oil. No wonder it wouldn't go above 50%. Works great now. Well done video. Easy to see everything and useful narration/explanation.

I am about to give this a try with my Craftsman floor jack. Only pumps for about 10% of the handle stroke. It really only worked correctly for a short time and I eventually gave up using it years ago. But the one I've been using broke, so I need to get this one working again to do some front end work on my truck. Plus it's basically a new jack. I tried just adding more oil a couple of years ago, which helped a tad, but never thought about bleeding it....only makes sense. Why did I not think of that LOL. This video gave me hope. I will come back and update my comment if (hopefully when) it works.

I have exactly same Floor Jack (Pittsburgh). It lifted not that high, and I usually used a wooden block 4x4 to lift higher. I always thought that is how high that Jack can lift, but now I think I might need to inspect and adjust it in the way it was done in this great and very detailed film. Thank you very much.
Update: I inspected that Floor Jack: There was enough oil, I added a bit, and bleeded some air (though it seems after every use it accumulate a bit air every time you raise the jack. I assume it is normal), but in general everything was fine. It was just I thought it doesn't lift high enough, I would buy another higher jack, but those are very heavy. But I feel so much more confident after this inspection following the film, bcs I always can inspect and monitor my Floor Jack from now on. The film is really helpful. Thank you again.

This one had the same issue mine is having now. It's like it starts to raise the car some but then it just won't. It feels like air inside. I'm going to bleed it when I get home. Thanks

Im mechanically minded so I knew process before watching the video . But when you get older ,nice to be able tp watch a video refresh your mind .thanks liked subscribered . Just got brand new jack off ebay went funny within few weeks once tried to lift front end it went up to a point .then every press of lever lifted up 1 inch then dropped back as soon as i brought the lever back to its start position. I suppose it has some sort of one way valve thats gone dodgy. But older jack replaced ,just needed bleeding and fresh oil .the lad left the valve loose the jack tipped on its side in its case .lost the fluid. 🤫🙄

In case this doesn't work for you, here's some wisdom. Check the two cylinders at the back of the jack, under the picot point of the handle. There are two spring loaded cylinders there. In my case one was stuck pressed in. I bled the jack 3 times whole my car was on jack stands without a way to get it off. I pries the cylinder and the jack worked like new

Nice!!! I have almost the same model (Low Profile 3 ton Pittsburgh)... I've only used it 3-5 times since I bought it, 8 months ago and it started doing the same thing... I'm hoping the fix is as simple as this... Bout to go give it a run and will update... Thanx in advance...

Mine is actually a Heavy Duty 3 ton w Rapid Pump (if it makes a difference)... It didn't work, at all, sadly... I replaced all the fluid and made sure there were no bubbles, but it changed nothing...It was doin the same thing yours was and like I said, I've only used it a few times so it has to be som'n simple...

    • @JosephToddYT
      @JosephToddYT  Před 4 lety +1

It could still have air in the line. It's the same thing basically as a brake line. You can't get force out of your car brakes if there's air in the system because the air compresses instead of moving the piston.
You probably have a bad seal on one of the bolts then and just need a new little rubber o ring.

Hey thanks for helping me out. I had a jack doing same thing. Expensive jack too but it's old. I did exactly what you said and now it's working again! I even went out and bought a new one before I saw your video...oh well now I have 2 good jacks. Oh my jack on the cylinder I had a rubber plug. I don't think that cylinder screw is 100% important for keeping the oil in because there isn't much pressure on that screw...explaining why my jack has a rubber plug. Thanks!

No problem man! I was about to do the same as you and buy a new one that's why I made the video cause I wanted to make sure other people didnt have to.
I think you're right on that and it only needs to be airtight to keep it from leaking or anything.
I'm happy to have been able to help! Have a good one!

If my jack is leaking. Assuming it’s the o ring / gasket. Do you need exact fit gasket or around size of the screw would work

HI. Is the gasket on the bleeder screw (the large screw) an actual gasket, crush washer or O-ring? You said the smaller screw has an o-ring, then said replace both o-rings. I want to be sure the larger screw has an o-ring before I find out it's some sort of proprietary gasket that can only be found in eastern europe or China. Thanks.
