Thank you for a very helpful video. I love both versions of the bowl. I look forward to seeing your glazing video.

I tried to make this with white clay and the sides cracked away from the base while I was forming it. It was quite soft to start with, not leather hard, but dried quite quickly and then it also cracked along edges at the peak of each wave. What can I do? Am I using the wrong clay? Thank you 🙏

Hi not sure if the white clay you are referring to is porcelain or stoneware. In any case, if the clay is too soft, the base will likely tear off when flipped onto a narrow jar. Try with using the back of a bowl (without a footring) as a mould. A bowl will give your clay more area to rest which will prevent the problem of breaking at the base and you can still get the ruffled edges. And start with a smaller and slightly thicker slab to get a hang of the process. As for the cracks at the rim, before you flip your piece onto the bowl/ jar, compress the rim well on both sides with your fingers. This step is really important. And once you’ve flipped your slab, cover with plastic so it dries slowly. Hope this helps..

@@KerriPhillips-d7t then it’s possible that the clay was too soft and thin. So try a slightly thicker slab and may be let the clay set up so it’s not so soft when you flip. I’ve also had this problem with really soft slabs where the base just came off. So it’s not just you.. part of the process ..🙂
