Mendelssohn was 17 when he wrote this!! 17!! I was not creating anything like this at 17 nor am I now. It blows me away the talent some people have!!

He wrote the ingenious overture to Ein Sommernachtstraum (A Midsummer Night´s Dream) at the age of 17, in 1826; the rest of the incindental music to Shakespeare´s play (including the Wedding March) he composed in 1842.
It’s just amazing how these composers began their careers at such a young age. I know Schubert wrote his first piece at the age of eight. Mozart composed a piece at the age of six. Just amazing work by some of the most well known composers.
these composers are a national treasure of ours. Today the majority of the teenagers doesn't even know how to play an instrument, let alone do anything other than tik tok and instagram.

Interestingly, this was just a music for a theatrical play. Mendelssohn never intended this melody for weddings or to be a "Wedding March", it was Queen Victoria who chose this symphony for her daughter's wedding, and then it became a tradition for weddings. Good choice by Queen Victoria though.
