      @koeibgm Před 4 lety +10

      I saw somewhere that uniquely high souls, like Almalexia, is pretty much wasted when used on armor for constant effects. This is because the armor’s enchantment limit kicks in faster. For weapons, this is not the case, as higher soul would provide higher encahntment pool(=higher number of usage before depletion). So for uniquely high souls it is better to use it for enchanting your weapons.

    • @irisinthedarkworld
      @irisinthedarkworld Před 3 lety +9

      @@koeibgm you're only supposed to use size 400 souls for enchanting constant effects, not any lower or higher because then the charge will be wasted. use the 1000 and 1500 souls for on-use or on-strike enchantments that take a lot of charge instead. apparel is actually better than weapons for that because some helmets, shields and jewelry have enchant capacities much higher than any weapon

      I finished the game.... probably not all the side quests but the vast majority I think. But boy... yeah the game was fun and all that, but the difficulty level..... let's say that when you start you've even have extreme difficulty fighting a crab. It gets better overtime but I think the difficulty level is muuuuuch too high. Also for it's successors. At Oblivion and Skyrim I just didn't level up because I noticed that once you level up, sure you get a little bit stronger, but your enemies get insane much stronger. So much so with Skyrim that with leveling up as what the game was expecting you to do; with the best armor and the best weapons and skill level pretty high, you were still beaten by a scoundrel in a leather 'beginners' armor.... like...... uuuh, I don't mind that enemies are getting a little stronger as you go, but all sense of realism or expected realism is thrown out of the window when you play at the rate you are expected to play XD

    For those who want to play as a beast race: There is a mod called Adul's leggings. It places a workshop in Balmora, near the temple, where you can convert boots into leggings, which are basically boots without the foot part, making them equippable on beast races. It even retains the enchantment of the item during the conversion (except for custom enchantements).

    That unarmored bug explains why my earliest attempt at a Monk build didn’t go well :P
    I wonder if gauntlets can be used in the vanilla game in an unarmored build? If so, do the gauntlets wear out really fast as they are technically being used as “weapons” and making lots of contact with enemies? Or is it simpler to use just a crummy piece of chest leather armor, and leave it at that?
    I forget if Khajiit have restrictions to what glove armor they can wear. Do their claws have extra hand-to-hand damage, like in Skyrim, due to their claws?

    Ah, I see my comment on wearing enchanted shields even though not using a one handed weapon over at the enchanting video was unnessecary as you talk about it here. Anyway, if I'm not mistaken there's a difference between gauntlets and bracers: Bracers only take the wrist body slot, pauldrons both hand and wrist. Therefore, if you find gloves which only take the hand body slot and not the wrist, you can wear both the gloves and bracers at once. As the common, black and Bal Molagmer gloves got an enchantment value of 10 that might come in handy when running an Enchanting build. On the other hand, why wouldn't you just pick an extravagant glove with an enchant value of 200 in the first place? :D

    Actual dmg reduction is explained in uesp wiki. Quick summarize: 10 armor reduce 10 dmg in half, 20ar reduce it to 25% and 5ar reduce it to 75%. So heavy armor is the only type of armor that will have decent amount of dmg reduction againts 2h weapons, while light armor(unless it top tear) only good againts small 1h weapons.

Then I had speed enchancements so I had over 400 speed and my character had over 100 athletics and acrobatics as well. I was a master marksman so I literally just jumped like 30 feet into the air all the time an ran so fast that I run in circles just throwing darts or shooting arrows. It was so much fun because you spam jump over your enemies head. If any new person gets into this game make an Archer it scales like crazy later on. One thing that is missing here and that I could not find anywhere is at which armour rating is the 75% cap reached?
    For example - In Skyrim, the mitigation is capped at 80% and it is reached at armour rating of 567 - going beyond that armour value is pointless.
    Now - armour value in Morrowind - what value gives 75%? It would be a useful information when optimising an armour, wouldn't it? Unless you really want to make use of every enchantable slot, such information could help you decide at which point it could be viable to substitute armour parts with unarmoured skill and so on.
    Obviously, in excessive armour value would still be useful in Morrowind, given the fact that armour gets damaged but still...

    • @stanislavblinov8454
      @stanislavblinov8454 Před 3 lety

      Chiming in a year later: there is no such value. Armor Reduction, in denominator at 5:50, is derived from incoming damage itself. It is either 1 + ArmorRating/Damage or 4, whichever is less (that's why incoming damage can never be reduced more than 4 times, leaving that 25%). So you technically never can "cap out" - if you meet an opponent that deals absurd amounts of damage (i.e. significantly greater than your armor rating, such that Armor Reduction stays close to 1), your armor would hardly block anything.

    Enchantment is weird. Even with the Enchantment points on armor and clothing also weapons is weird as well. But with enchanting you can echant armor weapons and clothing even piece of paper as a one time use scroll. Ironically daedric supposed to have really high Enchantment point limit. I guess that the devs had either made it like they intended to do or the fact that they haven't balanced it correctly. But there's some armor and weapon echantments that was done by leveled loot is somehow you can't out do or even match the Enchantment level as them.

    Hello there! Can you please cover one more question? Is there any way armor and unarmored skills collide with each other? And more specifically - does it make any sense to combine unarmored skill with one of the armor skills while creating a character?
    I'm asking this because there are some default classes that combine anarmored and armor skills in major and/or minor skills.
    And thank you for your guides. I have played Morrowind for a lot of hours since 2007 or so and still a lot of points you cover are brand new for me. Good work.

      Armor skills and the unarmored skill only work together when you have an armor slot that is empty or occupied by clothing. So for example, if you're wearing a full suit of armor and a shield, then unarmored is useless to you unless you decide to unequip at least one piece of armor or the shield. Unfortunately, a lot of the pre-made classes you can pick are inefficient. My best guess is that they were made so that early game encounters are a bit easier and likely a bit of RP thrown in.

    I have MW+BM+T with OMW 0.45. Sometimes when I try to backstab a monster with a shield (e.g. Skeleton Champion) it will spontaneously block, even from right behind it, before it even readies its weapon (like when you hit the F key)...
    Anyone else encounter this? Thanks.

  • @koolkillarz
    @koolkillarz Před 5 lety

    Wouldn't reducing your enemies agi/luck/weapon skill make it harder for you to block because they have to land an attack in order for you to block it? If you nerf their stats too much you'll just dodge everything they throw at you. The same is true for increasing your own agi and luck. I think the best way to increase block chance is to fortify the block skill. The bound shield comes with +10 but if you're well off you can make a +45 block daedric tower shield.

It's all just for performance and playability with a controller. That said, I can't say for sure being as I don't have a working orignal xbox to try it out on.

      There is no such absolute value. For any given enemy, the "cap" would be 3 times their maximum possible damage, which, in turn, depends on that enemy's strength attribute, their weapon, and its condition.

    General armor rating under your character is not used in resulting damage formula -- only attacked slot of your character places it's armor rating to that formula, it's quite obvious. That general armor rating value is shown there only to confuse players. It should be shown as in Daggerfall instead. Why I'm so sure in it? -- Because every hit, for example, on "player's" character makes a particular sound, depending on type of armor being hit. It's quite convenient.
    In your variant it looks like only few pieces of tough armor (which skill you have mastered) will protect you equally regardless of attacked slot. Pffff...

    • @LyleShnub
      @LyleShnub  Před 6 lety +3

      I'm not sure if I entirely understand what you mean here.
      When you get hit, a certain armor piece does take condition damage. However the armor rating value shown in the menu is still what's used for determining your character's damage mitigation. It includes weighted values for all of your armor (or lack thereof), plus any shield spell effects.
      You can test the accuracy of this with console commands. Spawn in daedric armor and then spawn in chitin armor. Equip half of each. Then, set your heavy armor skill to something high very high and then set your light armor skill to just 1. Finally, start fighting a high damage enemy. If the formula only used the armor rating for the piece of armor that was struck, then your incoming damage would fluctuate wildly depending on whether the attacker hit your weak armor or your strong armor. Because the formula takes into account all of your armor, you will take about the same amount of damage each time (within the margin of the enemy's own attack damage range). The idea behind this system is that it makes it easier to equip and level the skill of a few pieces of armor that you aren't yet skilled at using.

    • @Geravind_Meowung
      @Geravind_Meowung Před 6 lety

      Completely stupid and illogical... So, my weak slots are weak only generally? Sheogorath must have coded this stupid system.
      What about disbalancing hits and knocking down -- what, along with agility, influences here? What happens with armor rating, dodge chance and chance of being hit when character is knocked down? (I know, your oxygen reserve is nullified, if you're knocked down, while swimming.)

    • @LyleShnub
      @LyleShnub  Před 5 lety

      That's because there isn't a clear cut one-to-one conversion from armor rating to damage mitigation. Unfortunately, to figure out the exact mitigation you're getting, you'd need to crunch numbers for every encounter. I try to make an emphasis on the points of armor and blocking that are more relevant while actually playing. That said, there's definitely a few things I'd like to change about this video if I ever had the chance.
