That might be one of the reasons why casual fans pick WWE over AEW. Casuals don't really care much about indie wrestling, at least not enough to think that one person is must see all the time. It was glaringly obvious in WWE too, when NXT stars got a lukewarm reaction at best, at least after the personality and character workers left NXT for the main roster like Zayn, KO, the 4 horsewomen, and Enzo and Cass.
Starting out AEW was just throwing out debut after debut and most of them only worked if you were a big indy fan. I popped for Butcher and Blade but most people didn't know them. For someone like Luther there should have been promos and maybe backstage shenanigans to set up his debut. The one thing that killed the Minions in Dark Order was the night they attacked Dustin and one minion held back his punches too much and it was caught on camera.
Allie in AEW is possibly one of the most wasted potential. So over in Impact it was insane. Impact wasn't even on basic TV but Allie was a household name damn near. She gets to AEW and has a great showing in the beginning but is thrown into the faction with Butcher & The Blade and now it's all she is.

It's funny how when AEW first started, I was happy that there was a alternative to WWE & I was able to see some of the guys I've never seen before in action e.g. Jungle Boy & Hikaru Shida, but as time went on & soon WWE had done those mass releases, it felt like Tony was more interested in signing ex-WWE guys than those from the indies & the more people Tony signed, the more people would get pushed aside & either was working the Dark/Elevation shows or only come back for a odd show. There's guys that's on the AEW roster that I sometimes forget are still signed to AEW as well.
If constantly being in the lower midcard for the sake of putting other teams over with no direction is a great story then yes - they are getting a lot of that.
I think that if they build it up more and more of a horror based team it would have been another Bray Whytt situation which to be honest was when Brodie Lee was part of it...
I think the Nightmare collective also ended due to Kong being unable to wrestle anymore due to her cumulative back injuries ...a story that they had actually used while she was on GLOW ...And Luther I admit looked like a shaved Gangrel
I honestly lost my shite when I first saw Sydal debut. I still loved him AND his brother, that was a tag team I seriously enjoyed. Luther was and is super underatted in AEW, but man do I enjoy watching him wrestle and scream at everyone 😂😂😂

Cassidy's honestly a really good wrestler, but I just feel like he'd be better off being used as a gatekeeper. don't put him in a title picture, his gimmick/character would have no real reason to ever go for gold, outside of maybe trios with best friends. When they put him in matches with people like Pac, and Cassidy comes out victorious? it just makes Pac look bad. I'm all for comedy wrestlers (Santino Marella + the Cobra were ICONIC) but you gotta use them in a better way instead of pushing them like a 'legitimate' threat.
I am a huge Matt Sydal fan, from his times in GCW, to WSX, to ROH, to WWE, so I was so pumped to see him in AEW finally as I love AEW as well. Then the botch happened...

Miro was being a baby he was at home refusing creative. What you personally feel black should be is utterly irrelevant. Seriously, they need to break this trend of debuting guys, having them show up a few times and then doing nothing with them. I legitimately thought Sydal was released from the company before this video, and that's just one example.
One of the issues that AEW has is that they don't know how to push talent properly past their debut. The butcher and the blade should have been a dominate tag team for 6 months to a year before taking a loss. They have the look to be great heels and to hold gold while doing so. They seem to do well as a team, which makes me believe there was either an injury or backstage politics happening that turned them into mid card jobbers. On debut, Malakai had a really good push only to become a benchwarmer or a jobber later and never secured singles gold. In wrestling they used to reward those that the crowd liked, every appearance I saw the crowd was behind Malakai and really liked how the character came across. The House of Black as a whole finally acquired some gold after Malakai took a break from wrestling, basically the man considered quitting. I believe they lost it within a short time. This probably left him wondering why he even bothered to come back. AEW should pay attention to who the fans get behind. Maybe part of the issue is that there are active wrestlers on the board. PS: CM Punk should have been suspended for what he said at the after match, and if he threw the first punch then he should have been fired. I am really surprised that it wasn't considered some sort of breach of contract.
Honestly I see a lot of people say that AEW has gotten worse compared to before but I completely disagree and some of the things in this video are reasons for that. Almost every single Dynamite feels big in its own way but I think the last 6 months to a year it has become was more consistent and has gained a lot more depth in the cards they put on. Having O.C Vs Swerve, Jay White and Ricky along with a phenomenal segment Involving the world champion, you can’t tell me old Dynamites had that level of continuity. I do think all around though the hate that AEW gets is honestly just a meme at this point and I truly enjoy a Marjority of the times I watch even if there is some things I don’t have as much interest in.

Matt Sydal slipping was just sad. I felt so bad for that man. My wife called him Matt Slydal after seeing it. Allie as the bunny was just cringey. That stupid head tilt thing she did was so dumb. As for Butcher and Blade they could have had something going there. They both had a good look to them imo. Especially The Butcher. Unfortunately I know Blade was a botch magnet and Butcher has a soft voice. They needed a mouthpiece and I guess Bunny wasn't going to be it. AEW has a lot and i mean A LOT of bad debut due to the fact it's all so random and storyline less. I think the worst debut gotta be Johnny Elite as the joker, not only he got beat up by Samoa Joe but in his second match he got squash by Miro like a jobber in WWE again.
One of my favorite flop debuts was Warhorse. My man shows up with a bunch of ads and hype, commercials, social media posts, he has an awesome match with Cody, Cody wins... and here comes the Dark Order to ruin everything. Warhorse shoves Cody out of the way to save him and fights the ENTIRE Dark Order BY HIMSELF... and then Matt Cardona shows up, wipes out the entire Dark Order on his own to hype up the one PPV match he had in AEW. And Warhorse wasn't mentioned, Excalibur didn't even acknowledge him once the 3 count happened, he disappeared from camera the second Matt Cardona showed up. They did the dude dirty.

Jake Altas had a pretty terrible debut. He had one squash match in Daly Place on an episode of Dark and then suffered a knee injury during a match with Adam Cole. He had to take time off to recover but then he was charged with domestic violence. A waste of a debut.

Their gimmicks are nothing alike. Dark Order: masked cult. Blade and Butcher: cannibals/serial killers (I think). Nightmare Collective: mean girl with bully sidekicks. Butcher, Blade and Bunny simply haven't had enough promo time or any decent feuds to really get over. Dark Order lacked direction until Tony Khan took over control of their booking. Then he added Brodie Lee as their leader, and they got massively popular. Nightmare Collective was a disaster from the get go, due to Brandi Rhodes. The entire faction was just a vehicle to put her over, and her psychotic gimmick didn't work becuse she was still doing her CZcams cooking show and showing up as Cody's babyface wife.
The fact that aew will have to go 20 more years to be on the level of tna / impact wrestling who would and most likely could be still going roh is owned by tk and is bigger than his baby aew ffs 😂😅

The best thing Brandi Rhodes was involved in was the Dark Order beat down of her husband. I really think the fans turned on Cody because of Brandi. She's a lovely person I'm sure,but please keep her off the television screen. WWE did it right by keeping her off screen. AEW wanted a power couple so bad that they tried to push Brandi as a Stephani McMahon character. They just did it one hundred percent worse and in the process turned their biggest Babyface into their biggest HEEL. Which ironically Brandi was promoting some garbage called HEELS for the strong women fans of AEW. An exclusive group where female fans could pay to join to feel empowered. Because AEW is so inclusive ya know? Must have done very well. Anybody know anybody that was enrolled?
I will say that calling the exclusive club "Heels" is very cheeky marketing. Too bad that's the only thing kinda good about it. It had good intentions, but needed more thought and direction.

It's very obvious a lot barely listen to commentary lol AEW literally explain every debut as it's happening. As someone who literally never heard of most these people as I only knew WWE growing up, I had no issues with anyone's debut information wise. Def would've helped a few if they did promos/video packages before they show up. Like how WWE use to do for some new/repackaged people. Y2J is a prime example. And just sucks they were brand new so debuts were gonna be a thing for a while till the roster was fleshed out some. So understandable how some didn't get more thought put into them. Clearly they weren't sure how long this thing would last. Now they know they're good so I'm hoping the future new people get better care taken of their debuts.

Agreed.There were a lot of injuries and other unexpected events that messed up their plans during 2022, but now things are back to normal.

Matt Sydal slipping was just sad. I felt so bad for that man. My wife called him Matt Slydal after seeing it. Allie as the bunny was just cringey. That stupid head tilt thing she did was so dumb. As for Butcher and Blade they could have had something going there. They both had a good look to them imo. Especially The Butcher. Unfortunately I know Blade was a botch magnet and Butcher has a soft voice. They needed a mouthpiece and I guess Bunny wasn't going to be it. She was just there doing nothing while those two got their asses whipped. And I'm not sure if you actually like Luther or if that was Sarcasm but I wont even touch that one. That dude was just terrible. Nobody cared to see him because nobody even knew who he was. I remember looking him up and all I could find was some old video of him fighting Sabu at a high school gymnasium.
AEW has a lot and i mean A LOT of bad debut due to the fact it's all so random and storyline less. I think the worst debut gotta be Johnny Elite as the joker, not only he got beat up by Samoa Joe but in his second match he got squash by Miro like a jobber in WWE again.
I honestly forgot all about Johnny Elite, damn.
One of my favorite flop debuts was Warhorse.
My man shows up with a bunch of ads and hype, commercials, social media posts, he has an awesome match with Cody, Cody wins... and here comes the Dark Order to ruin everything. Warhorse shoves Cody out of the way to save him and fights the ENTIRE Dark Order BY HIMSELF... and then Matt Cardona shows up, wipes out the entire Dark Order on his own to hype up the one PPV match he had in AEW.
And Warhorse wasn't mentioned, Excalibur didn't even acknowledge him once the 3 count happened, he disappeared from camera the second Matt Cardona showed up. They did the dude dirty.

Jake Altas had a pretty terrible debut. He had one squash match in Daly Place on an episode of Dark and then suffered a knee injury during a match with Adam Cole. He had to take time off to recover but then he was charged with domestic violence. A waste of a debut.

Butcher, Blade and Bunny simply haven't had enough promo time or any decent feuds to really get over.
Dark Order lacked direction until Tony Khan took over control of their booking. Then he added Brodie Lee as their leader, and they got massively popular.
Nightmare Collective was a disaster from the get go, due to Brandi Rhodes. The entire faction was just a vehicle to put her over, and her psychotic gimmick didn't work becuse she was still doing her CZcams cooking show and showing up as Cody's babyface wife.

The best thing Brandi Rhodes was involved in was the Dark Order beat down of her husband. I really think the fans turned on Cody because of Brandi. She's a lovely person I'm sure,but please keep her off the television screen. WWE did it right by keeping her off screen. AEW wanted a power couple so bad that they tried to push Brandi as a Stephani McMahon character. They just did it one hundred percent worse and in the process turned their biggest Babyface into their biggest HEEL. Which ironically Brandi was promoting some garbage called HEELS for the strong women fans of AEW. An exclusive group where female fans could pay to join to feel empowered. Because AEW is so inclusive ya know? Must have done very well. Anybody know anybody that was enrolled?
I will say that calling the exclusive club "Heels" is very cheeky marketing.
Too bad that's the only thing kinda good about it. It had good intentions, but needed more thought and direction.
Matt Sydal one wasn't that bad to be honest i think people blew that one out of proportion as that fall actually made him one of the most well remember AEW debuts of all time... Was he going to hurt himself yes but he actually did manage to survive the flip...

AEW literally explain every debut as it's happening. As someone who literally never heard of most these people as I only knew WWE growing up, I had no issues with anyone's debut information wise.
Def would've helped a few if they did promos/video packages before they show up. Like how WWE use to do for some new/repackaged people. Y2J is a prime example.
And just sucks they were brand new so debuts were gonna be a thing for a while till the roster was fleshed out some. So understandable how some didn't get more thought put into them. Clearly they weren't sure how long this thing would last. Now they know they're good so I'm hoping the future new people get better care taken of their debuts.
