      Angular brackets in programming

    • @gfixler
      @gfixler Před 2 měsíci

      @@priyaalkhandal4163 I use TP-PL for full stop, and KW-BG for comma. These are shape-based chords, so the letters don't matter. The former is the top two middle keys on both sides, and the latter is the bottom two on each side. I can write all the brackets, too, especially using the Emily's Symbols plugin for Plover. Not only can I write them, but I can in the same stroke both choose how many of them to write, from 1 through 4, and I can choose which side they cuddle to; by default the symbol sticks to both sides, but I can add the left thumb's left or right keys to push it away from that side. So cat-dog, cat -dog, cat− dog, and cat - dog are each three strokes, and so are cat--dog, cat---dog, and cat----dog. That's not a regular dash, either. It's an em dash. It could be the degree symbol, though: cat °°°° dog; I repeated that four times, and told it to space itself from both cat and dog, all in a stroke. I can get to well over 100 symbols easily, and steno is programmable, so I can add whatever I'm missing really easily, too. Using Emily's Modifiers, I can also hit all the modified keys, like alt+a, and ctrl+alt+W, but even things I can't write in qwerty, like ctrl+alt+§, which reuses my knowledge of all the symbols used in Emily's Symbols. I can also get to all the accented letters as well, and so easily, without looking up anything, or copy/pasting, like Å, ñ, ç, Ö, æ, Œ, î, etc., though I tend not to use them, because words that need them just have them built into their definitions, like when I hit SP* to toggle over to my Spanish dictionary, ¡Yo puedo escribir en español también! and I didn't think about the accents at all. For example, I just stroked SPAPBL (SPANL), and it wrote español for me, with the ñ as part of it. I wrote this whole comment on my Uni steno board from this company. I stopped using qwerty a few weeks ago. There were a few times I reached for it since, but got frustrated too quickly and switched back.

    My top typing speed was 65 wpm back in the day tested on the keyboard of an electric typewriter. They wouldn't let us use a computer keyboard when testing us for speed and accuracy. I dont know why. Since you can backspace and fix an error using a computer keyboard and you can't on an electric typewriter. But maybe that was the reason.

    • @gfixler
      @gfixler Před 2 měsíci

      I mean, not only can you do numbers just fine, but a lot more with numbers, like if your digits are unique and all in order, you can hit them all together, like 12689 is one stroke, but even 2024 is only two strokes. I can add in the R on either side to turn them into Roman numerals, like VIII and XII, and if I add the K sound on the either side, for clock, I can do 3:00, 12:00, etc., each in a stroke. With the -DZ ending, for dollars, I can write $100, $300, $600 also each in a stroke. Haven't even scratched the surface here. This steno system blows qwerty out of the water. It's not even a competition. I wrote this comment on their Uni steno keyboard.

    Can this be programmed to work on a game? Also is there a way to upload our own dictionary? I don't see a number bar, are the keys next to the vowels operating as a number bar? I like what you guys are doing, I'm a court reporting student and would love to be able to use fully customizable (keycaps, switches etc) steno keyboards on a regular basis. You should also look into making different base frames and adding RGB😸. If it could be programmed to use like a fully functional keyboard as well as the ability to type in steno on any program/game then I would 100% purchase and replace my normal keyboard. This would also be a game changer for work. I'm really not sure why we haven't switched to keyboards like this yet already...
    For all the people in the comments who don't know what this is: this is keyboard designed from stenography machines. Stenographers use machines like this to type at 200+ words per minute to record what people are saying. You would not be able to use it unless you know how to type in short hand.

    • @__--__
      @__--__ Před 9 měsíci +1

      Yes every key is remappable, I use a steno keyboard for gaming, I have it on a toggleable layer (since steno only sends on release)
      Yes, you upload a .json dictionary, but there are plugins for .csv and .py dictionaries too.
      You are right, that is a thumb number bar, but I prefer remapping the top S- to Number since I use number bar for Proper Noun Capitalisation.
      The keyboard itself will never be as good as a lever machine (there's a vid of a stenographer 'pressing' a key on their stenotype with just blowing), and also lever machines are dead silent
      But the software is soo nice, I have a plugin for an additional steno key, suggestions next to my output tape, python dictionaries for hotkeys and phrases
      Best of all, everything is free and open source, so you can put this software on any mechanical keyboard, if you want RGB. (or a even a standard laptop qwerty keyboard if you want to try it + hurt your hands)

    • @veryrealpersonwhoisreal
      @veryrealpersonwhoisreal Před 10 měsíci

      Common names are already in the dictionary, like Tom is one stroke: TOPL. There are even many uncommon names like Gertrude is two strokes: TKPWER/TRAOUD. If you already know your theory well you will be able to come up with these strokes on the fly even if you have never typed them before. Punctuation marks have their own strokes and many have multiple different strokes to handle different spacing. The math symbols like +, -, =, ^, !, %, and * have their own strokes. You can also add strokes for weird symbols like the section symbol: § that you can't or are harder to type on a normal keyboard. You can even do emojis. If there are no strokes for what you want to type then you can "fingerspell" it out by typing one letter at a time, but this is 99.9% not required as most words are already in the dictionary with theory-following strokes that experienced stenographers will be able to reconstruct on the fly. Bottom line, everything and more that you can type with a normal keyboard you can type with a steno keyboard and it's almost invariably faster once you git gud.

      This does not have a number bar, the numbers are done by adding the number key to a stroke. It is more efficient, especially when creating large numbers by using a sort of "templating" method like 4000 would be 4/THUZ which is two easy common strokes rather than the normal 4 plus any hand shifting and aligning you have to do with a normal keyboard to get to the numpad and back if it's in the middle of a sentence.

That's char, then D-LS to stop autospacing (Delete Space) the next thing, and then just fingerspelling out cole. You could also just spell it out entirely: KR*/H*/A*/R*/KR*/O*/HR*/*E.

If your password can't be typed with normal strokes you would "fingerspell" by typing one character at a time. To put this in context, most of my passwords these days are just English sentences with a few numbers and specials mixed in.
