Rabbit r1 was clearly a scam (Coffeezilla has been digging into it). I don't think the Humane AI pin was supposed to be. Both failed, but for the same reasons ultimately ... didn't do anything actually useful and tried to force a new device or form factor for this when that wasn't necessary.
The phone is the obvious place for this to live. If we want a secondary device, well, we already have that, too ... the smartwatch. (A likely third is just an ambient device ... which already exists in smart speakers, too.)
What I'm amazed by is ... they both shipped these to reviewers. With the Rabbit r1, were they hoping to just get a pass on the the fact that it just didn't work? The Humane AI Pin is just fundamentally flawed, but that should have all been figured out before they shipped a single unit. That they shipped them to reviews and not to a small beta group is crazy. I have to assume in both cases, they wanted to get revenue coming in immediately and thought the hype cycle would help them.

If it needs internet full-time, it's useless for me outside

You should get an interview with Imran Chaudhri or George Kedenburg... Look them up.

I believe the title and description are meant to say 'Humane,' and not 'Human.'

The much simpler take on these, as shown and investigated by other youtubers, is that thse two hyper-hyped products are on the edge of being scams/frauds...
The Human AI has received almost 0% positive reviews, and the Rabbit was better, because of the price and probably the funny rabbit animation.
So, from a product strategy and UX, there's probably not much to say, with this perspective.
Also, the fact that the Rabbit has a touchscreen, that you cannot use, especially in the Settings, where it would have been most welcome. But you can use it in the rare situations when you need a keyboard, is good to know.
Other than that, they would have probably been interesting gadgets, if they war working as claimed.
