1999 Toyota 4Runner Cruise control fix, park neutral safety switch adjust. Drive light fix.

- My 99 4runner’s cruise control was not working. Also the Drive “D” light was not coming on unless I mess with the shifter, but goes out when I let go. Found out That was causing my cruise to not work. Adjusted the p/n safety switch and now the light comes on as it should and cruise works again! Hope this video helps someone out. This is my first tutorial video so I’m sure the camera angles aren’t perfect but I think you can see good enough where everything is. Thanks for watching.
99 Ltd here. 301k miles. Due to numerous radio swaps, my center dash looks almost identical.. I've long thought I was the only guy driving around missing that air vent! No fkn clue where it went!!

No start issues at a convenience store gas station with my 2000 4RUNNER. While waiting to get it towed home, a 4Runner Forum search suggested i put it in neutral, and it started up. I've had the same drive light issues with it and my 2000 44Runner and 2001 TUNDRA. Looks like no new drive lights will be needed. May try cleaning NSS after i watch some videos on doing it. $50 to $139 for after market or OEM. P.S. I have had not starting on the 1st time, but it would start up after, until today. Both used high mileage. 269k 4runner / 212k tundra.
Thanks! I was looking for a video to replace mine on a 07 Tundra, but this is great info that applies to all. Now I know that I have to watch for that adjustment too. Who knows maybe adjustment is all it needs. Great video my friend!

thanks man. dealer never mentioned to just adjust it. they wanted 1600.00 to replace the switch and the computer module under the gear shift. thanks again
I think you're video may have helped us fix our 99 4runner that will not start or turn over at all and the D wasn't lighting up for awhile. We've changed the starter and the starter relay didn't change a thing. So hoping the nss will do the trick. Thank you

By replacing the NSS did now start ??
With this adjustment, I was able to diminish harsh D and R!. Thanks.

@@da324 it definitely could. That’s what was happening to mine. Drive light was out cause the N/S switch needed adjustment. Once I adjusted it the light worked and my cruise worked.

Sorry I am a bit confused what you did with the bolt. The switch can only go in one way whereby you line up the hole on the switch with the screw hole on the vehicle. So what did you adjust?
You loosen the bolt and rotate the whole switch assembly slightly.

That I’m not sure. Does your “D” drive light up when you have it in drive? If so this may not be your issue.
Does the car need to be on netraul In order to adjust it?
