      @@philbelichick24 there is also different balks but all center around the pitchers motion. If a man on first, and a rh pitcher purposely/accidently twitches his back leg to make it look like he is going to pick off to first, but then goes to plate, that is balk. If pitcher comes set, but ball drops out his glove then balk. you can find balk videos from mlb highlights on youtube and will make way more sense. I had the same problem trying to understanding icing in nhl lol

    Well, that's two of these videos and two rulings he's gotten wrong. The answer to this one was in the same place as the other one too (6.01 b). Straight from the MLB rule book under "Fielder Right of Way":
    The players, coaches or any member of a team at bat shall vacate any space (including both dugouts or bullpens) needed by a fielder who is attempting to field a batted or thrown ball. If a member of the team at bat (other than a runner) hinders a fielder’s attempt to catch or field a batted ball, the ball is dead, the batter is declared out and all runners return to the bases occupied at the time of the pitch.

    • @Subangelis
      @Subangelis Před 2 lety

      Read the rule again, because you're wrong.
      "a fielder who is attempting to field a batted or thrown ball"

    • @Orxenhorf
      @Orxenhorf Před 2 lety

      @@Subangelis Try paying attention to the whole video. 1:55 starts a whole section about a foul ball toward the dugout. And at 2:40 he goes specifically into how he'd tell his players to make sure they stay on the rail and make it more difficult for the fielder trying to catch the ball at the dugout.

    • @bearleft
      @bearleft Před 2 lety +1

      He also got the rule wrong about leaving your feet near the dugout: There are two rules involved, one regarding where you can legally make a catch, and one involving the advancement of the runners. [From the 2019 Official Baseball Rules:
      "Rule 5.09(a)(1) Comment: A fielder may reach into, but not step into, a dugout to make a catch, and if he holds the ball, the catch shall be allowed. A fielder, in order to make a catch on a foul ball nearing a dugout or other out-of-play area (such as the stands), must have one or both feet on or over the playing surface (including the lip of the dugout) and neither foot on the ground inside the dugout or in any other out-of-play area. Ball is in play, unless the fielder, after making a legal catch, steps or falls into a dugout or other out-of-play area, in which case the ball is dead. Status of runners shall be as described in Rule 5.06(b)(3)(C) Comment."
      We have also from Rule 5.09(a)(1) that "[i]f a fielder, attempting a catch at the edge of the dugout, is
      'held up' and kept from an apparent fall by a player or players of either team and the catch is made, it shall be allowed." That makes clear that being held up at the dugout fence (and not falling) is not the same as a fall.
      "Rule 5.06(b)(3)(C) Comment: If a fielder, after having made a legal catch, should step or fall into any out-of-play area, the ball is dead and each runner shall advance one base, without liability to be put out, from his last legally touched base at the time the fielder entered such out-of-play area."
      So you can leave your feet and not have the runners advance, as long as you don't step or literally fall into the dugout. And being held up to prevent a fall does not mean that you fell.

    The leave your feet rule is old and doesn’t exist anymore. Once you are out of play it’s a free base even if you stay up. Also yes machado was dirty and illegal in that play. The rules state the runner has to actively avoid the fielder. Also purposefully sliding into a player to break up a play is illegal.

      It’s not just a Catcher rule though it applies to fielders with their hats as well basically it’s to prevent them from catching balls with equipment other than hands and gloves but I thought it only applies to catching them and not touching them but I would have to check this out when I get the time to go through the rules just to verify
      copied and pasted directly from the rules as posted by the MLB site which I'd directly link to but the CZcams systems would automatically moderate my comment
      "Rule 5.06(b)(3) to 5.06(b)(4)
      (E) A fielder deliberately touches a pitched ball with
      his cap, mask or any part of his uniform detached
      from its proper place on his person. The ball is in
      play, and the award is made from the position of
      the runner at the time the ball was touched" and the reward would be 1 base.
