You also need to watch Chris sing Cold at the CMA awards I believe it was 2021 or 2022 CMA's. Chris and Justin Timberlake's live performance at the 2015 CMA's performing Tennessee Whiskey and Drink You Away. Also the lady who sings backup with Chris is his lovely wife, Morgane. who is also a very good singer.
This song was originally written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove for David Allen Coe. It has been covered by many artists over the years, but no other artists has had the success with it that Chris Stapleton has. His style and voice is unlike any other. He’s so talented!

That’s his wife Morgane she’s talented. They met as young songwriters in Nashville and have 5 children. He has written over 200 songs that have been recorded by other artists, but he didn’t write this, it’s an old country song recorded in the 1980s by George Jones and others but he changed the beat.

The song was written by Dean Dillon in the late 70s. He said Chris’s version made him a millionaire. There was a great documentary on Netflix or Prime about Dean that was excellent. Worth checking out.

It is blues. He’s a country artist, but this pure blues. The time signature, chord progressions and phrasing is text book blues. He does a great live performance of James Brown “it’s a man’s world” so so good

Bro you CAN NOT GO WRONG if you look up either of Chris Stapleton's live performances of "I was wrong" (I think it was the Austin City Limits version) or "Cold" (CMA's performance). Chris blends country, soul, and blues like nobody I've ever heard before. This man is simply generational talent personified!! Love your vids bro!! Keep grindin!!
Keep going on Chris. You won’t be disappointed. His live performances are incredible. He did not write Tennessee Whisky, but he does write most of his own music and has written hundreds (yes, hundreds) of songs for other artists and not just country artists.
He’s considered country, but he’s so much more. Check out his live performance of Cold at the 2021 CMAs and his live performance of White Horse at the 2023 CMA.
He’s also collaborated with several other artists, such as Pink, Carlos Santana, Sheryl Crowe, Justin Timberlake and more.

"Watch you burn". Live. The only way to watch him perform is live. Better than
recorded. His voice is better live as well as the emotion and rawness. He can
make his guitar speak to you.
Dude, if you haven't gotten into that album there's more. He hit me out of nowhere too and you'll notice that this version is very close to how it was recorded. No auto tune no tricks and no tracks. Straight up Chris, six strings and a voice you can't explain. I want to say that's his wife singing with him but don't quote me on that. Be careful rooting through the country music catalog. Most of the stuff in the past five or six years isn't country although they wear hats and sing with a twang. I put this album on at the pool one day and the crowd there was white, black, hispanic and there might have been a couple of Asians hanging around. The reaction I got was "turn it up!" so I did and he gained a couple of unlikely fans that day. Every song on that album struck a cord with me and they're in my playlist permanently now. It's funny how the world would make us believe we're so different. We all vibe. Carry on and keep that mind open it's wonderful what you run into every now and then.
Chris Stapleton is from Kentucky. One of his favorite artists is Snoop Dog. He’s an eclectic musician with eclectic influences on his music. He said were it not for his wife, he wouldn’t have the career he has. She is his biggest collaborator.

Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove wrote the song and it was first recorded by David Annan Coe first in 1981 and reached # 77 on the charts with his version then in 1983 George Jones with his version who topped the charts at number 2. I loved his version it had a lot of heart but Chris Stapleton’s version is just wow with so much more heart and soul and reached #1 on country charts and #23 on the billboard. I love both version for different reasons. You mentioned another person singing this but I have never heard that version yet but am going to check it out. Loved your reaction.

The lady is his wife Morgaine, you can always see it in their eyes, and I believe she is his rock😊 I saw him live, it was awesome. If you are near Kentucky, go see him there... it's his home state. He loves playing there!

That song was originally sung by Hank Williams (Sr.) in like the 50’s or 60’s. And it’s been covered by a lot of different artists.
If you're the type that likes to hear more than one song from an artist before forming an opinion, there are a lot. Check out his live performance of Cold from the CMA's. Or the songs South Dakota and Higher from his new album Higher. Or, to be honest, any song from Chris is phenominal, including his rendition of the national anthem at the Super Bowl - which had no musical accompaniment except his guitar. He's amazing.
Tennessee Whiskey was originally recorded by David Allen Coe in 1981. It was written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove. Chris definitely made it his own. And, in my opinion, it’s supremely better than the original. A good David Allen Coe song to react to is You Never Even Call Me By My Name.

Maybe you might be interested in Dax(Canada)& Darius(USA) "To Be A Man" which has some similar heartfelt elements but is more Rap/Country.
Also there is Dirt Miller "Kansas City" which is a unique Rock, Blues?, Country? blend. He is a young talented artist from California and has a unique twangy voice and great guitar skills.

Everyone wants to put down country music. They are still musical artists. My father and grandfather were both jazz musicians and play multiple instruments. My father used to say that country music was not music because he didn't like the twangy sound of all the old music from the day. But country artists have been changing country music. Look at Darius rucker from hootie and the blowfish. I've been to several country concerts. And the best one, the most enjoying, and the most exciting was garth brooks. Thank you for opening your mind, your soul, your heart and your ears. You felt it!!!😉

Actually the original came out in 1981 when David Allen Coe sang it …. Then again in 1983 when the Goat of Country George Jones sang it ….. then Chris Stapleton brought it back in a way that can’t be repeated
Chris wasn't on the radio when you were growing up. The radio started playing him in 2015. He is only 45 yrs old.

I haven't found anything that Chris has done to be bad. He is a song writer from Whitesville, Kentucky. The young lady singing with him is his wife Morgan. You can't go wrong with Chris Stapleton.

There is a street performer in south Florida he plays guitar people from audience sing. There was a black guy that sung this put Stapleton in the shade.
.....I believe you will find that George Jones(old school country) might well have been the 1st to record this...and a great job George did with this too.

How about some 1970's Southern Rock? Charlie Daniels Band - The Devil Went Down To Georgia; The Marshall Tucker Band - Can't You See or The Allman Brothers Band - Whipping Post. There's also Southern Blues, most notably Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood at the El Macombo or ZZ Top - La Grange. There's so much good southern music out there, last but not least, Hank Williams Jr. - Family Tradition.
